KNAC.com is reporting that the new, still-untitled Slayer offering will arrive on July 7. I know that there’s probably as many readers who aren’t excited about a new Slayer album as there are readers who will take this as good news, but whatever. A new Slayer record is always good news to me.

The first song from the album, “Psychopathy Red,” was released way back in October, and is, in all likelihood, the single best Slayer song of the past eighteen years. I bought one of the awesome limited pressing 7-inch singles made for Record Store Day, and have been making sweet, sweet love to it ever since.

Seriously, anyone who was excited for Death Magnetic but not for this album is a gosh darn fool.

Here’s “Psychopathy Red,” in case you need a reminder of how killer it is.

      Let me begin with the proverbial “disclaimer” that Slayer has been my favorite Thrash Metal Band for over 20 years. I have seen them in concerty over 15 times in five different cities from Alaska to Nebraska. With this being said, I think in high school I must have played South of Heaven until by cassette was worn out. I have gone to a midnight release for every release since. As I read these posting I find myself confused becuase I am not certain how I feel about Slayer now. Their last release was BAD! I was so pumped up to get it becuase I thought that God Hates Us All was their best release since Seasons In The Abyss. In additons, their live shows over the past few years have become mundane and reduntant. In my opinion they either need to STOP for several years and do a “Reunion Tour” or pull out find their nuts and pull out Hell Awaits and take a listen! I will continue to love and support SLAYER for eternity, but I would prefer to do it with honor, pride, and with my cock hard!

    Slayer sucks. reign in blood is trite. They are mediocre at best. I respect them, Ive seen them live, I just dont see the big shit about them. please explain. Is it that every metalhead thinks they MUST like slayer, for some reason?

        i definetly agree with you. theirs nothing special. they have some good songs but they are wAy overated. i think most people like them cuz they were the most extreme band at their time that people could understand lyrics too

          i’m not a hardcore slayer fan, but reign in blood was far from trite, it was innovative when it was released.

Second, douche, YOUR FAVORITE BAND LISTENS TO SLAYER!! There’s a reason that they are considered king of the heap. It fucking sickens me when supposed metal heads hate on Slayer or any other metal band that laid foundations for this genre of music I would give my life for. On that line of thinking, I don’t know why everyone puts up a big fuss over this Motorhead band, or why anyone would like Metalica’s first four albums. That stuff is terrible and has no place in todays awesome scene that was no way shaped by the bands that came before it. Third, I still don’t get the trend of dingleberries who post on this site just to talk shit about a band that they don’t like (like the rest of the world gives half a rat’s ass about your opinion). I thought this thing of ours was supposed to be a community of like-minded individuals. If these are the people festering underneath in my so-called underground, they need to have their metal card revoked. I don’t agree with everything that’s posted on here, but I don’t feel the need to talk shit about the things that displease me. Oh by the way I don’t listen to “Reign in Blood” because I was told to or because I have to. I listen to it because it fucking rules…..douche

          Dude, you dont have to like Slayer, but you have to at least respect them for what they have done for metal. I think they are one of the best metal bands ever, and the reason they are in the top 4 thrash bands is because they are so FUCKING AWESOME!!!!! When all the other thrash bands started going mid-tempo, Slayer were the ones that stayed true to thrash. They don’t need to make new music anyway because all the music they make fucking rules, even their shit albums are still fucking awesome. So don’t insult their contribution to METAL music!

    for years I bashed metallica for putting out crap material and half assed live performances. But I’m sorry Death Magnetic is about 20x better than Christ Illusion.
    I wasn’t really excited for its release, but I guarantee it will be light years beyond what slayer will put out this year.

    And this new song is nothing special. “The best slayer song of the past eighteen years” my ass. This is mediocre at best. I really hope their new record sounds likeGod Hates Us All because the last one had way too many fillers on it. Someone has to tell Kerry to call up Gary Holt for tips on how to write an amazing metal record – because if this new song is any indication these guys are starting to lose their flair.

    Another album that sounds exactly the same as all of their previous albums. This band has 2 good albums, admittedly they are very good, but I really only think that reign and Seasons are great, everything else not so much.

    Christ Illusion had some decent songs, but most of it sucked…as has everything else they’ve released in the past 15 years. This song is quite good, however.

    I was one years old when Reign in Blood came out….yet its one of my favorite records ever.

    Comparing Slayer (or any classic band) to “modern,”and in this case, extreme music, is like comparing Babe Ruth to all the steroid freak ball players of today or comparing a ferrari to a model-T…its stupid.
    Hell Awaits-Seasons= 4 consecutive albums of awesomeness. That alone deserves eternal praise and testicle worship from the metal community.

    This is their last, right? These guys are so tired and out of ideas. There is so much happening in metal today. More than ever before, jazz, noise, electronics, classical, folk, it’s all in there among 1000s of new bands but what do you guys say ‘sssssllllaaayyyyeeer’. Give me a break. Expand your mind. Slayer, like Pantera, Metallica, seem to have a large group of closed minded fans who don’t care and/or know of any other band but THEIRS. Fuckin SSLLAAYYYEER. Metal can mature and grow leaps and bounds but bands and fans like that drag it right back to meathead music. And make no mistake, Slayer is not an underground band. They are a Guitar Hero, Vans shoes band who have gold records.

      Look, we all know plenty of other bands….i can name bands for days but the ones i listen to arethe ones I think put out the best tunes. Pantera,SLAYER,Older Metallica,Exodus,Testament have and still do put out some of the best metal tunes that have ever been put out. Just because some of these newer bands put out music that is maybe heavier and faster doesnt mean it is better just because it is modern. Old does not mean played out. Good tunes is good tunes, there is still a reason there are 16 year olds today wearing Zeplin and Doors and Sabbath shirts…it’s because the best will alwys be the best. Other things are good and even great but there are certain things that have set standards for everyone else to live up to and Slayer is one of those things in the metal world…..ask any band going if they would like to write their own Reign In Blood and the answer would be yes. My mind has been expanded many times over and i love all sorts of music but Mater Of Puppets and Reign in Blood will always be in my top ten of all time even though there is good music being put out today.

    I like Slayer and I have listened to their each and every albums more than a zillion times coz they RULE !!!!!!
    But I’ve got to agree with some of my fellow metalheads here that this new stuff sounds a little repetitive. I am a hardcore Slayer fan that’s why I am begging to the guys in Slayer to bring back the Reign in Blood and South of Heaven days when everything used to be so new yet evil to the core.

      You know there’s no need to return to Reign or South or Hell Awaits or anything else.
      Metal is evolving, and the members of slayer are no longer teenagers (or in early twenties), they cannot put out the same massage and feelings as 20 years before. You have to catch up with time.

      People who say that slayer hasn’t put out any good material in 15 years must be fools. All the slayer albums rule, and even their weakest album (which might be Diabolus in musica) owns every metallica record after master of puppets.

      Their tunes and riffs live forever in every true metal fan’s heart, forever and ever.

        I agree that a band has to evolve in order to survive creatively.
        Any artist with any credibility has proved this, from Miles Davis to the Beatles.
        Slayer defys genres and cultures.
        I still can’t believe that guys in their 50′s can make punishing music that matters to the youth of today?

    Seems to me that a true Metal fan could appreciate different metal bands. Homage for Slayerfor what they’ve done for Metal in North America and in general. But there’s enough different types of metal within the genre, that quality doesn’t necessarily have to be compared to the brutal onslaught of death metal, to make it good. Slayer is one of a kind as always.

    It is pretty stupid.
    I’m listening slayer since i’m 8 and i am 33 now.
    When Christ illusion came out, i loved it (and i still do) songs like cult, jihad, consfearacy orSupremist are just fucking awesome.
    You think they don’t evolve? bullshit, they are true to themself, no compromise.
    They are one of the “unholy” icons of Metal. Period
    How many of your so called inovative band will be there in 25 years?
    (i hope some will last like All shall perish…)
    By the way, i got the Slayer logo tattooed on my upper arm…and i am proud of it.

    everyone on here that is criticizing slayer is probably either 18 or a metallica honk. these are the same pea brains that would be crying just as hard if slayer went in another direction. they’ve stayed true to their sound and their fans. ragging on slayer and pantera would get your face caved in around me. to even compare slayers music with metallicas or megadeths is a complete joke. there’s a reason everyone listens to them. someone put it very nicely up top. your favorite band listens to slayer. cannibal corpse sounds like cannibal corpse, tool sounds like tool, suicidal sounds like suicidal, and slayer sounds like fuckin slayer.

    First of all guys I am a SLAYER fan first and a metal fan music fan second. I personally love everything Slayer has recorded to date, let me say, this new Slayer album is some of the best music I have heard in a long long while, and yes Slayer can be compared to the like of Metallica and Megadeth, while Metallica and Megadeth’s new music is no where near on par with the rest of the metal scene is today, They will always have my deepest respect as musicians. These 3 bands laid the groundwork for what we all listen to today.
