Apparently The Devil Wears Prada’s new album With Roots Above and Branches Below is on pace to sell between 25k and 30k first-week and a press release tells us the band is #2 on iTunes. Can I get a rousing round of “What the fuck???” from the MetalSucks Haterati??

Not saying I like the band — I would agree that they’re generic and that there are much more talented bands out there who should be selling more records than them. However, I don’t know if haircut-core is a good term for them. None of the recent photos I’ve seen of them scream haircut-core or fashion-core at all.

Come on, I don’t care for The Devil Wears Prada (saw them at the Sound of the Underground show), but blasting them for being generic and then praising Chimaira in the same sentence made my head explode.

I was going to say something very similar. Personally, I haven’t heard TDWP, but the name alone is enough to conjure up images of dudes with swoopy scene haircuts and tight pants, so I’ve never had any kind of interest. However, Chimaira have managed to bore the shit out of me with every album they’ve released. I always check it out (via download… I learned my lesson from buying Pass Out Of Existence), hoping maybe they’ll not suck this time around, and every time I am rewarded with another album of mediocre, boring metal. I honestly don’t remember anything about The Infected, even after listening to it several times.

As far as screamo being the heaviest music Christians can play, go check out Extol, Becoming The Archetype, Impending Doom (not to my taste but very heavy), Living Sacrifice, and hey let’s not forget Megadeth. Mustaine’s been a Christian for a while now.

It’s pretty epic, but I agree that they’re the new popular thing and it makes listening to them kinda taboo, but I’ve listened to nearly every band that’s been covered on this site at least once if not more [save for all the shitstains of the universe, of course, who literally make me cringe], and TDWP isn’t the worst thing out there in the music-universe. I mean, they’re better than American Idol and all the super-produced Top 40 crap on the radio.

Until recently when I cut all my hair off I had the typical “emo” haircut(even though, technically it was inspired by Japan’s visual kei movement and not Pete Wentz, but that’s beside the point) and I straightened it every morning (and yes, Hagstrom, sometimes I also painted my nails black). I also wear girl jeans (because I’m thin and tall and prefer not to have my pants fall off my ass) and sometimes wear eyeliner.

I would have to disagree with any comment on here stating that Christians can’t make good music — there’s plenty of Christian bands that disprove that conclusion. Also, if you think that the heaviest a Christian band can go is screamo, you really need to educate yourself more. Just a few good examples of very talented, aggressive Christian bands are Living Sacrifice, Extol, Soul Embraced and Becoming the Archetype.
Also, I’m really glad to see that people have to resort to using the word “fuck” and “gay” to describe bands and their music. It really shows how intelligent and thought out peoples’ opinions are.

OK, first: Hopkins, TDWP didn’t name their band after a chick flick, their band was well established before that stupid movie came out…and they thought that The Devil Wears Prada would fit into a christian theme, because the devil tempts people with things like glory and fashion and money, it’s the root of all evil kinda stuff…

I like Chimaira (even their new album) but also I like TDWP (new and old album) . And I don’t see any point of comparing this 2 bands. Chimaira is brutal, (on new album a little slower), heavy, groove metal, while TDWP is fast, screaming metalcore band (I really like their keyboards :) ).
So stop bitching about bands, listen if you like it, if not go listen something other.
I saw this band at Sounds Of The Underground a couple of years ago and didn’t think they were anything more than just one more band to endure while waiting for Chimaira and the other good bands to perform.
With that said, I think I can concisely explain why an offering from a bland group like this managed to outsell a great album like the Infection: the Faith+1 theory of built-in audiences.

I will admit, there was a lot of crap to endure between the good bands on that show. Out of all the bands, I can honestly say that the only ones I enjoyed were Goatwhore, Amon Amarth, kinda Shadow Falls, a little bit Every Time I Die, and of course, the mighty GWAR. Everything else just melded into one large clump of screamo and metalcore.

That said, I agree with you, I have no tolerance for stupidass scene kids that change styles and music tastes with the seasons. I think the current trend has evolved from popularized “scene” metalcore to popularized scene deathcore in the past year or two, though. Just like how Nü-Metal got big once upon a time in the mid-late 90’s. The people that still actually like TDWP in five years will still listen to them, the ones that were following a trend or anti-trend won’t. Whatever.

Selling more CD’s, as the entire world has learned after years and years of the billboard charts does not mean much. So fans and websites should not take that as an insult to bands who of course happen to have more talent, and passion towards music. The Devil Wears Prada actually has parts that are heavier than Chimaira at times and just choose to not pummel the listener constantly, Thats fine with me. I love the fuck out of Chimaira, much more than TDWP, but I recognize what each band is for and dont give a fuck who sells more CD’s.

I’ve noticed that whenever Metalsucks post anything about a Christian metalcore band (or Christian band, for that matter), almost half of the commenters (well, maybe not half, but a lot anyways) somehow manage to skip right on past the actual musical ability of the band and base their entire argument on the fact that the band in question have Christian beliefs. And I would be willing to bet that only a handful of said commenters have even heard the band’s music. chimaira sucks ass even when their demo came out. its not heavy or fast terrible. TDWP is okkkk throw a good show then chimaira that just stands their trying to look mean when they are gay asses who have to look down at their instruments to know what to play. Religion has nothing to do with selling shit. They are jsut putting what they want on the album. They dont care what you thing so dont care what they think. The reason they are doing better then lamb of god (great band) Metallica( they are done already retire) is that all you dont buy their cds you downloaded them. Even if Chimaira were a boy band, they wouldn’t be as generic as the myspace metal shit genre that Devil Wears Prada belongs to. After all, there were only, what 405 boy bands at that genre’s peak? Now Europe’s best bands: Bal-Sagoth, Amon Amarth, 1349, Aeternus, Carpathian Forest, Akercocke, Anaal Nathrakh, Hecate Enthroned, Celtic Frost, Arcturus, Beherit, Behemoth, Enslaved, Bergraven, Belphegor, Darkthrone, Bloodbath, Gorgoroth, Mayhem,Nattefrost, Dark Funeral, Dimmu, Moonspell, Impaled Nazarene, My Dying Bride, Old Man’s Child, Marduk, Immortal, Helheim, Taake, Shining and DhG.
