In case you doubted the connection between classical music and modern metal: in 1999, Dave Lombardo teamed up with Italian music critic Lorenzo Arruga and some other people you don’t care about for Vivaldi: The Meeting, which basically takes some classic Vivaldi pieces and futzes around with them.

Is it brilliant, garbage, or just a failed experiment.? Invisible Oranges has some mp3s of the whole affair – head over there to check it out.

I’m going to have to go with the garbage assessment on this one. I’m sure there are some that like it, but personally I just don’t get it.

  • ashley

Yeahhh…. I have to suck it up and say better the first time on this one.

  • Aaron R A

    A horrible, tragic, failed experiment.

  • Tim

I hope the guy who recorded those drums got fired. Sounds miserable.

I love stuff like this and always appreciate when you guys bring it to my attention. I’ll check it out this weekend.

    Thanks, MetalSucks!

I think the Trans-Siberian Orchestra is a better example of the relationship between metal and classical.

Vivaldi was Baroque, not classical!!!! Am I the only one who was bothered by this?

    • jo

surely “classical” is an overarching genre description, much like “metal”? as in, 1349 are “metal” and within that broad description they are also “black metal”

and this is by far the best thing alexi laiho has done or will ever do:

Well, true. If it’s in that context then I can see it…

I bought this album years ago. Interesting to say the least. Not really metal at all, but still interesting. I liked Lombardo’s drumming. A good contrast is Vivaldi Summer from Project Alcazar’s Reasons for a Decade.

The drum production sounds like shit.
