alright alrighty already. i will admit, ONCE and ONCE only i have enjoyed tool, about 5 years ago, I had some acid, my friend put on Laterus and I tripped the fuck out. hallucinations, everything. But, since then, i have never been able to too ‘get it’ so to speak. Give me some acid, and yeah theyre ok i suppose, but thats it.

When Bungle opened for TOOL they were atrocious to the point of being unlistenable. If you went to one of those shows and enjoyed Bungle more than Tool, probably 1% of the people at the show would have agreed with you. Tomahawk was somehow even worse, so I’m imagining Fantamos is equally shitty beyond belief.

I will agree that Dillinger and Meshuggah put on amazing shows though.

I don’t know why I even bother defending Tool. The quality of their music speaks for itself. If it unfortunately doesn’t do anything for you, I’m sorry – you’re missing out on one of the best bands of the last 15 years or so.

and.. after seeing killer shows from Meshuggah, Faith No More, Mr Bungle, Fantomas, Dillinger pretty much every other band on the planet is more exciting than these self indulgent ass wipes. Fuck tool, only good part is some drum parts, and that is IT!

Disdainful toward their fanbase? I don’t think so. I have never heard the band say a negative thing about their fans. Perhaps Tool has spoken negatively about assholes that come to their shows, mosh, and are bored for the entire show except when “Sober” and maybe 2 songs off Aenima are played …but these fools aren’t fans anyway. And I suppose Maynard is narcissistic because he doesn’t kiss ass, speaks his mind and sometimes chooses not divulge certain information? I would also say that all REAL artists are “self-indulgent.” If by self-indulgent you mean that they create art for themselves and are passionate about their craft. If an artist isn’t somewhat self-indulgent, then he is creating solely to please others, which most would equate to “selling-out.”

I think it sucks that a lot of people don’t consider Tool metal. Just because they’re not nasty, brutal, or particularly intense all the time doesn’t make them not metal. They’re pleasing to the ear, but they can also be quite heavy. I would absolutely call Maynard’s vocals metal, in Tool at least. To me, they are absolutely a metal band. If there was a musical draft, like Dave Chappelle’s racial draft, and I represented metal, I would pick Tool without even giving it a second thought.
