kse-reckoningYou gotta hand it to the folks at Roadrunner: they know how to promote a record, and they know how to use the internet to their advantage.

So. Following on the heels of giving away new songs by Dream Theater and DevilDriver for free, the label is currently offering a new Killswitch Engage track, “Reckoning,” right now, for free. Download it here.

The song will appear on the band’s new, self-titled album, which comes out June 30.

After you’ve given it a listen, come back here and let us know what you think.

      • metalguy

        ms doesnt spam

  • http://www.heavyblogisheavy.com Jimmy

    I enjoy it.

    • http://www.heavyblogisheavy.com Jimmy

      First listen: It’s pretty okay.
      Second listen: Catchy
      Third listen: I LOVE IT.

We’ll see how the album turns out

      • HEYTHERESAILOR

I’m on 2nd listen right now and pretty much having the same experience u had.

  • Kyle

    oh im digging this.

killswitch is a great band. chorus is catchy as fuck

  • Chris Berseth

Yeah, I dig it. Reminds me why I love this band.

  • JonasCoussement

Oh man this really lifts my spirits, I thought they we’re becoming increasingly softer and after hearing “Light in A Darkened World” I liked it but wasn’t too satisfied.

    This is just awesome.

  • Double D

I saw Killswitch with Mastodon and Slayer once. It was cool.

    • http://www.myspace.com/1033metal Jackson

      this was a great tour

      • polkunus

KSE does not fit in Mastodon or Slayer at all

        • Screwy

          yet they’re all awesome

  • Fufkin

    Is nice song. Is nice!

  • anathema

sounds like every song they’ve recorded since Alive and Breathing. a/k/a AWESOME.

  • \m/Eluveitie\m/

Alright can we add “reckoning” to the list of words that have been used so much, they’re no longer eligible for use in a song title?

    • seveword

If we did that, there wouldn’t be any more metal song titles. Let’s see: death, sorrow, hate, Jesus, die, angel, God, fire, ascension, blood, bleed (pretty much any word that uses blood as a base), kill, blind, burn, destroy, eye, fury, ghost, lost, etc. And that’s just from a quick scan of my collection.

If we started taking away naming privileges because some words are so overused, then metal bands would have to start naming songs after star clusters, or rivers that run south to north, or fabrics, or designer flowerpots, I mean you get the point. We’d like to do that, to force these knuckleheads to get creative, but the logistics of that kind of operation are mind-boggling.

      • \m/Eluveitie\m/

The difference between “reckoning” and all the words you mentioned in your first paragraph is that all those words are cool

      • Otac

        you forgot war.

      • Muzikwhore

        LMAO!!!

  • dick?

    it was catchy as hell.
it even had the riff styling of alive or just breathing.
but justin foley did a faster blast beat? WTF? that was a sweet touch.

if the album has the same intensity as the first track, we’ll have a good one.

  • jason

Like them or not, KSE are the undisputed masters of this kind of music. If I’m going to listen to anyone knick gothenburg riffs, I’ll listen to these guys.

  • wata

    Props for black singers.

    • Chris

y wat differents does it make if howard was white u wouldnt be saing props to white singers, hes a good singer forget the skin color

  • Ryd1ZZ

Great track! Can’t wait to hear the whole album.

  • himynameismark

Can’t wait to hear the rest of the album, this sounds pretty damn awesome.

  • Chris

Idk if I’m listening to the same song as the rest of you, it sounds like a bonus track off of their last album, not much of a stand out track that’s for sure…

    • Ballhair

I absolutely agree. After reading these comments I was definitely disappointed when I heard this track. I miss their days with Jesse Leach. Alive or Just Breathing is far superior than any of their other records.

  • http://myspace.com/biosyn teaches of peaches

Not a bad track. Actually sounds much better than anything from their previous album. At the same time though, I’m not sure if it’s single material.

  • Sammy

    ~Awesome guitar tone: check!
    ~Great riffage: check!
~Leads throughout with no solo: check!
    ~Scream/clean trade-off: check!
~Kinda same-ish as last two albums: check!

    It’s a solid 6.5/10.

  • uLy

I like it! I go to KSE for all my catchy metal. =)

  • Mynamesucks

    I really like the riffs.

  • hrm

boo, sounds exactly the same as every other killswitch song from the past two albums, it easily could have been filler in the last album and I wouldnt have even payed attention to it, id like it if they branched out abit more but theyve found a comfortable formula that the hot topic crowd laps up and fear to break it.

  • Cretain

Great song! Can’t wait for the album!

  • Muzikwhore

sounds KSE promising! Wished they’d got a damn title for the album!

  • Patrick

I was already singing along to the chorus during my first listen.
This song is good.Howard sounds great and so do the riffs and Foley is tearing it up.
I am officially pumped for the album.

  • towerofdoom

yup… i don’t like it either. formulaic kse in my opinion. :-P

  • SonOF

Definitely sounds like KSE, which is a good thing, but this track isn’t exactly breaking any new ground. Howards screaming vocals actually seem harsher than normal; perhaps it’s just the way is was produced. I’m sure this will be a good record.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QU0BKUbflc Garske

digging the blastbeats at about a minute in, solid track.

  • DarthBeard

Another band jumps on the blastbeat bandwagon.

    • Ryd1ZZ

      STFU

      • DarthBeard

hey its not that i don’t like kse or blast beats it just seems that every one needs to show off how fast they can hit a snare drum.

        • cink

Killswitch doesn’t use blastbeats often so it kind of surprised us I think.

  • dsa

Fukn great song! And i dont know wtf u retards are talking about, it doesnt sound like any of their other songs

    • groverXIII

You apparently haven’t listened to anything they’ve recorded with Howard Jones, then.

  • groverXIII

It does sound like stuff from their last couple of albums, but I like it. I didn’t like how it cut off, though, because it sounds like they were getting into a pretty decent guitar solo.

Hopefully they don’t go overboard with the blast beats, but if this album is heavier than the last one I’ll be pretty happy with it.

  • jason

Not only does all KSE sound the same, every album Adam D produces sounds the same. Without knowing, I would guess he produced the new album as well?

    • DarthBeard

      i don’t think he did

    • Chris

Well seeing how adam D didnt produce this album ur coment is complete bullshit, learn wtf ur talking bout not just acting like u no shit to sound cool

      • jason

thats why there was a question mark jackasss. I was asking.

    • HagstromSpeed

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/BlabberMouth.Net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=118123 …nope, Adam D didnt produce it, if you read, he also produced other bands like AC/DC, Pearl Jam, RATM, and a few others…wonder if the album will show noticeable signs of this…hhmmm

      • Chris

Adam D did, in fact, produce a solid majority of the record. Brendon O’Brien, cited as a producer (a first for the band) largely focused on vocal production with Howard in Atlanta. However, if you follow the news and interviews, the band tracked the majority of the music in Zing Studios in MA with Adam at the helm.

      • jason

He also produced “Crack the Skye”

  • Aya

Definitely sounds like KSE…But why does it end so suddenly?

  • Kevin

    Its alright IMO

  • barry

    garbage as always

  • cink

    Fucking love this song!

  • cink

And I think it ends suddenly cause the album runs together so the end of the song is probably the beginning of the next song.

  • http://www.myspace.com/doubledragonheavymetal aussie

oh lord its pathetic. i think i am pyschic as everything i expected to happen, did.

Nice to know you Killswitch, you guys sure fucked it up.

  • polkunus

I don’t understand what’s so great about this band.

It’s just another shitty and worthless metalcore band…

  • normalguy

@aussie & polkunus & all the other haters
shut the fuck up, if u dont like their music why the fuck do u assholes search 4 every post with kse in it? u assholes have no lives if u want to start spamming every post with kse in it just coz u dont like their music. well heres a fact, i hate the the shitty black/death/doom shit metal u guys listen to, but i dont search for their posts just 2 start hating on them. Get a life, and get laid, dumbasses

  • timmah

Well, Foley’s hands get faster all the time, that blastbeat was a nice touch so at least he’s progressing.

The formula works, but I’m getting a little tired of it. Their song structure hasn’t changed since TEOH, I’d like to hear a little variance. Try something new, explore the sound a bit. They’re all talented enough to pull it off, I think they’re just playing it safe to the established fan base.

    • jason

^And that my friends, is a thoughtful and well-wrought critcism.

  • Vlad

    Generic and formulaic.

  • Screwy

I’m seeing them 3 days before the new album comes out so I’m hoping they’ll present it then :)
