ANOTHER TERRIBLE IRONIC POP COVER FROM A METAL BAND

Here’s The Berzerker doing the tATu (Christ I can’t believe I just typed that with the caps and everything) song “All the Things She Said.” Apparently some people are really offended by the sexual content of the video*, but really everyone should just be offended that this blows so hard.
Awful. Just awful.
Thanks to Mark Mortiz-Rabson for the link.

*And by “some people,” I mean “no one.” I mean, I don’t think the people who get offended by this kind of shit even know who the fuck The Berserker are. As far as I can tell, this is just some non-controversy cooked up by the group’s PR team to get them some headlines – so mission accomplished!

My interview with Chris Arp of Psyopus at New England Metalfest last month came off more like a personal therapy session for Arp than a proper interview. The dude had a LOT to say about his band, its role in the current metal scene, music critics, and the reception his music gets from the Internet haterade mafia. Arp was incredibly articulate and intelligent with his answers, and he’s clearly the kind of guy who spends a lot of time thinking about every facet of his art. He’s the ultimate tortured artist, if you will; 100% confident in his work yet frustrated with the inability of the public to grasp the enormity of what he’s trying to accomplish.
I love Gojira. I love them the way Mel Gibson loved that lady he killed all those people for in Braveheart. I love them the way Mel Gibson loved that lady he killed all those people for in Lethal Weapon 2. I love them the way Mel Gibson loved that lady he killed all those people for in Mad Max. I love them the way Mel Gibson loved the son he killed all those people for in The Patriot. I love Gojira the way Mel Gibson hates the Jews.
A close read of Black Math Horseman’s name will ultimately lead to disappointment: “Black” denotes black metal, but sadly, there is none; “Math” signifies shifting time signatures and jerky rhythms, but band’s album is fairly light on that front; and “Horseman” could hearken back to black metal yet again, or perhaps Amon Amarth-style romp through kick-ass melodic death metal. But, alas, the parts of Black Math Horseman’s name certainly don’t add up to the assumed whole; in fact, their name is up there with Massive Attack and Lamb of God in terms of misleading band monikers. But this doesn’t mean Black Math Horseman suck. Though different – on top of their bizarre name – from your average brand of spacey post-metal, Wyllt, the band’s debut, has a lot packed into what seems to be a measly package: a short running time with relatively brief songs, a lot of atmosphere and, upon first listen, not a lot of hooks. But they stuff a lot beneath the surface, and after Wyllt reveals itself, there’s a considerable amount of substance that will burrow its way into you. Though maybe not in the way you think, Black Math Horseman are hard to dismiss.
The good folks at Roadrunner Records are giving away
Noise rock legends Mclusky always put humor in the forefront, but that never stopped them from creating some wickedly grating punky rock tunes (and a couple softies to boot).
