Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 10:49am by Vince NeilsteinIt’s, like, way early to be talking about “Best of ‘09″ lists already, but ‘09 is actually almost half-way through (wtf???) and I’d gander that Obscura’s excellent tech-death shred fest Cosmogenesis is gonna end up on more than a couple of year-end lists, including that of yours truly.
Check out this quality footage of Obscura shredding it up at the Neurotic Deathfest in The Netherlands this past weekend [sent in by Tim F.]. Ridiculous! We were super-bummed that the band’s MetalSucks-sponsored U.S. tour had to be cut short before it hit New York, but here’s to hoping they’ll come back soon.

I’m sorry, I hate Obscura.
obscura is good, but every time i listen to them i just end up putting on Arsis on after a song or two. everything obscura does well, Jim Malone et al. do better. jamming some gorod right now though and i can see them finding some space in the tech death listening sessions; they’ve got a kind of btbam vibe that i’m diggin (this song at least).
Gorod’s new album is fan-fucking-tastic.

Cosmogenesis is a good tech death album. GOOD. It’s a mediocre entry into a technically proficient genre. I don’t know what that means, I’ve had about infinity Mike’s Hard Lemonade[s].
