SUICIDE SILENCE DEBUT NEW MUSIC ON THE NET, BUT NOT ON THEIR WEBSITE OR MYSPACE PAGE

4_pre4notextThe official studio recording of the new Suicide Silence track “Wake Up” (which we’d previously heard only as a live bootleg) is now available for streaming – but not through one of the usual webernet outlets you’d expect. Nope, the track can be heard only on the band’s merch site, which is run by the company Third Degree.

I certainly understand the thinking behind that – might as well try to sell some t-shirts while you have everyone’s attention – and I’m not annoyed or angered by the decision, because the listener is under no obligation to buy anything. It’s more like the way you have go through the entire mall to get to the movie theater (I’m speaking from my limited experience in the suburbs, by the way). I do wonder if the band’s merch sales will increase at all as a result.

ANYWAY. The music. It’s about the music! It’s a good song that, like the previously-released “Lifted,” shows a definite progression in the band’s sound. I don’t like it quite as much as “Lifted” because it doesn’t have a spacey-druggy section, but, hey, it’s still a good song.

Check it out, then tell me why I’m right or wrong.

Alright song, like Lifted more though.

  • ohshitson

it’s actually on their myspace page.

  • Noel

I salute them. Bands are getting too mixed up in the myspace thing. I wonder how many of these newer bands poping up everywhere nowadays would of survived during the 80s or early 90s, when you couldnt depenmd on a myspace page, but by touring a lot or tape trading, etc….

    • Elitist Fuck

I think the whole MySpace thing is more of “taking advantage of what’s at hand” rather than pure laziness. I’m pretty sure if computers had never come along, quite a few bands would have gotten off of their asses and toured the shit out of everywhere and would have went to every parking lot tape trade.

    • Fufkin

Ah the romance of tape trading but if you can let people listen to your music online to get a taste of you band why wouldn’t you?
It’s progress – I’m sure if it had existed back in the day when 1 in 20,000 people owned a computer everybody would have used it.

Agreed. Creativity in marketing and hardwork is worth its weight in gold, but MySpace is an undeniable way to get new bands out there. I totally depend on it to discover people I never would’ve heard otherwise. That said- I’m sure it can’t last forever.

Off topic: Hey guys, you sholud finally review Hull’s Sole Lord

  • Anus Apache

Wow…this band has progressed a lot and really improved their sound. Now they only suck….but not donkey dick

Good song, good merch, good band.

  • thebenthic

this song is just blah. nothing that really keeps me interested in it. although alex does step it up on drums now. other than that the song is nothing special.

  • Brock

Despite any feelings towards this band, their pre-order package shirts are about as generic as I have ever seen.

    • THE CARL

Some times the simpler things are the more punch they pack. What will get someones attetion first, a shirt with a whole storyline on it or the big ominous disconcerting words WAKE UP, that will have a person asking themselves, “hmmm whats that t shirt about?”, and then they look back again and see the words SUICIDE SILENCE. “Hmmm, ill go check that out.”

I think its almost a metaphore for the bands music itself. They are not the most technical band out there, which makes some of their stuff not just more pummeling sounding, but also makes them a refreshing alternation between a band like the Facless or Obscura.

      • Brock

Whereas I see your point, I personally dig shirts with a little more substance to them. When I said they were generic I was implying there was a difference between generic and having simplicity. They could be simple without being generic.

Also, thank you for responding with an intelligent response. It tends to get really old when you see responses that present no point at all and just contain horrible grammar, spelling, and so forth (not that I am considerably perfect, but I try).

As far as the music goes, I’ll listen to Obscura over Suicide Silence any day of the week. I am just not really into deathcore anymore. If I want straight up pummel I listen to Cannibal Corpse or some other “good ol’ fashion death or grind”.

        • THE CARL

Oh thanks, yeah totally man, cant go wrong with that!

  • groverXIII

I’m surprised they haven’t released it as a single through Hot Topic, considering that they’re huge with the kids that shop there.

  • Patrick

Everybody is so wrapped up in labels and demographics, and appearances and so forth.
Do you like the music? Yes, or no.

That should be all that matters.

    • aussie lee

      No, its shit

      JUN JUN.

Except different groups of people respond differently and more favorably to different types of marketing there for knowing who your fans are is extremely important when deciding the best avenues and execution for promoting music or anything for that matter

    FUCKING WAKE UP PUSSIES

      lol

  • Beereded

Almost as gay as Ijerkedoffapigoncewhilefuckingabearintheassthenrecordedthesounds. I say almost because at least they don’t admit to making gay metal on their myspace.

  • Beereded

I’ll also give them points for not making their band name all one word.

  • peter m

good song, way better than lifted
