I don’t want to say too much about Ox because Sammy O’Hagar is working on the review even as I type this, but the album rules. Hard. I won’t even argue about it; people that don’t like it are no friend of mine.

Lambgoat is currently streaming the entire album. Check it out before it’s released on Relape on July 9.

Fuck yeah, I was hoping you weren’t going to neglect this while fucking us with a bear.

  2. I’ll be the judge of that.

…oh wait. You mentioned that part.

  3. groverXIII says:

I can’t knock this, although I’m not a fan of hardcore, but how can you guys mention this and yet completely neglect the new boner-inducing album by Amorphis? I’m disappointed.

  4. Conduit says:

I’d say hardcore isn’t a proper tag for these dudes since they are thick as sludgy as a backwoods swamp.

  5. Pancho says:

Oh hell yes; just the other day I heard the preview songs of off Myspace and not only do they pick up from where they left 10 years ago, they could even be (dare I say it?) ass-kickinger then their 02:12 material. Phew. I had my doubts and nagging worries whether this was going to be a worthy reunion…I guess the dark lord is owed a sizable goat sacrifice for this one (or whatever it is hardcore people relinquish in worship…vegan burrito, perhaps?).

  7. Shanetera says:

This album is indeed friggin’ sweet. Love it.

I was reading the most recent Decibel magazine and saw that they reviewed this album and gave it a “10.” Anyone that is familiar with Decibel knows that the reviewers don’t give out tens all that often, so they must have been quite impressed with the album. I’m definitely going to check this one out…always enjoyed Coalesce; they were way ahead of their time, and influenced tons of other artists.

    • SonOF says:

Just as a reference, more than 50 albums other than Coalesce’s “Ox” were reviewed in the July edition of Decibel, and “Ox” was the only record that was scored as a 10.

Just as a side note, IWRESTLEDABEARONCE’s opus “It’s All Happening” received a score of “2″. I think reviewer Nick Green put it very well: “Listening to the ADD-addled nocturnal emissions of Iwrestledabearonce is less enticing than huffing a bag full of doggie farts.” :)

This site needs to get off IWRESTLEDABEARONCE’s dick and report on good bands like TRAP THEM and VICTIMS, and i noticed they basked MARYLN MANSONS new album yet they seem to have no problem advertising it in the margins, anyways COALESCE is a good start

I love the sound they have, but the vocalist is fucking terrible. Sounds like a teenager throwing a temper tantrum. Oh well, its like one of the reviewers once said, I don’t listen to metal to be sung to. Hopefully the vocals will become less annoying over time.

    • Kodiak says:

Yeah, the vocals are definitely an acquired taste, but what I like about them is that Mr. Ingram doesn’t sound like anyone else I’ve heard (admittedly, Coalesce is the only hardcore band I actively listen to). That, and it takes a hell of a lot of effort to vocalize the way he does – that it some seriously guttural belting he’s doing.

    • SonOF says:

I’d say that Ingram is one of the more influential vocalists out there (in hardcore and related genres); imitated by many over the years. Do you like screaming vocals at all? If so, I’m surprised you wouldn’t like Ingram’s stuff.
