NOW TRENT REZNOR HATES TWITTER

In a not-that-surprising turn of events that I predicted back when musicians first starting jumping on the Twitter train, NIN frontman Trent Reznor — former Twitter king — is now railing against the service, though not for the reason I initially thought. According to a lengthy blog post by Trent on the NIN.com forum [via Metal Insider], the Internet haterati and psychopaths appear to have gotten the best of Trent, and he’ll be pulling out of social networking entirely for the time being:
I will be tuning out of the social networking sites because at the end of the day it’s now doing more harm than good in the bigger picture and the experiment seems to have yielded a result. Idiots rule.
Reznor continues to explain his motivations for becoming involved with and disengaging from Twitter, and even takes a shot at the Metal Sludge message boards, which he calls “home of the absolutely worst people I’ve ever come across.”
It’s been extremely fun having this behind-the-scenes look at the person behind the name these past several months, but of course we ultimately respect Reznor’s needs. We’re also 100% sure that he’ll continue to innovate in the online space even if he’s not trading barbs with Chris Cornell.
Side discussion: is Twitter now essentially “over”? Has the service’s initial charm worn off now that it’s been invaded by the mainstream?

Metal or not, what he’s doing for online music is much more important than any genre. By extension it’s also interesting/amusing to see where he takes things next.
Back on topic, Twitter has always sucked.. I have yet to find a redeeming quality in it.. same goes for the other public “networking” sites.. Waste of fucking bandwidth.
Trent’s the man, twitter or not. I don’t think he could put up with so much exposure for more than a limited time. He;s pretty reclusive.
I think they kinda fall under the industrial metal/alt metal genre but who cares what they are??

In all honesty, never bothered with twitter, was never really interested in knowing the mundane events of everyday life of someone else, glad to see trenty feels the same now.
Except that that isn’t why he’s not on Twitter anymore? Not even slightly?
Not sure what he thought would happen. The man talks shit about people like he’s a 14 year old and then calls the very service he’s using to do it stupid.
i love twitter because it gives you a way to instantly tell if a person is fucking tool or not by simply asking them if they are registered for a twitter account.

Twitter has a huge (and fast) dropoff rate of those who sign up. Instant, truncated updates from someone’s boring daily minutiae? An idea whose time has never come.
Not to mention, unless they sell the site or come up with a way to generate revenue, how can they continue?
Be that as it may (any chance you could link me to a source?) the same could be said for ANY free online service. I know that on every message board I have posted on, the member lists are clogged with people who signed up, made a couple of posts, found the place not to their liking and never came back. Why should Twitter be any different?

This doesn’t surprise me…when he announced his engagement, I knew all his fangirls would attack him. Maybe he will be angry enough to make a decent album this century.
