MESHUGGAH, IF YOU NEED THE NAME OF A GOOD LAWYER, GIMME A CALL

Holy shit, does this band wish it were Meshuggah or what?

I just got an e-mail asking me if I want a copy of their album for review. Thank you, I’m sure you’re very a nice person, but, no, I already have enough shitty CDs sitting on my desk that I’ll probably never find time to review.

Holy Crap… I’m glad you didn’t say the same when I asked exactly the same thing .

    LOL

  2. Metal Fuckin' Dave says:

Actually, I have a copy of the album, and it is fucking killer. Imitators they may be, but they are damn good ones. I’d actually give it a spin or two if I were you. It is probably better than a lot of the shit in that pile you have to review.

  3. Carnage9 says:

they’re not as Meshuggah-y as some of the Meshuggahcore bands you’ve posted about before. check out Synthetic Breed. awesome band but theyre the worst offenders when it comes to exploiting the Meshuggah template.

  4. Their album is called Murder Book! Hah!

Doesn’t every city have a band that sounds just like Meshuggah nowadays?

    • Metal Fuckin' Dave says:

We have a Xtian band called Gnashing of Teeth that went the Meshuggah route a ways back but have since abandoned the idea and are apparently going in a more ‘core direction. But they actually pulled the Meshuggah worship off rather well. Well…ish.

  5. Miroslav says:

And you call this (sort of) a pile of shit but you love Nachtmystium? Oh the irony…

  6. someone who hates you says:

dude you listen to manson.. your opinion is invalid

  7. earthsherm says:

this is really good, the snap judgement wast wrong

  8. Glenn says:

“The album was bravely recorded and mixed in Poland and Scotland”.

    ???

  9. vegard says:

there are thousands of bands that want to be meshuggah, i don’t see why you’d want to slag this particular band.

you guys featured after the burial quite a few times…

    • Strapping Young Lad says:

thats cuz After The Burial is amazing. They also don’t sound that much like Meshuggah. Sure, they do the whole Polyrythm thing, but listen to a majority of the songs. There is prob. Only one Meshuggah esc riff per song. Plus, as said before, i dont think Meshuggah worship is a bad thing at all. Its better than all the At The Gates worshiping that’s going on.

Also, yea, these guys sound alot like Meshuggah, but its not crap by any means. i like em!!

    • Strapping Young Lad says:

oh yea also, I wasn’t bashing your comment at all. I agree entirely.

  10. SourDeez says:

This is pretty good, but they take Meshuggah worship to a whole new level. This sounds more like Meshuggah than Meshuggah. I don’t think you should call your music “experimental” if you’re copying someone else’s experiment.

  11. Jonny Fucker says:

YOU’RE ALL A BUNCH OF FUCKING CUNTS

  12. Blake says:

There’s a band called Periphery that’s on the Thrash n’ Burn tour that sounds like a cross between Meshuggah but a LOT more melodic. I dig ‘em.

  13. Blake says:

And uh, wow – I just took a listen to this band’s stuff… and if imitation is flattery, Jens Kidman would be blushing all over.

  14. Gabriel says:

Although I have listened just a a bit of Meshuggah’s stuff, I have to agree… even the vocals of this band sounds a little like those in Meshuggah’s songs. But they’re a good band, anyway.

  15. Noel says:

sad, cuz this band could probly make a cool cd, without copying the shit out of meshuggah..but like many otrher newer bands, they take the lazy route…ehhhhhhhhh.

    • SourDeez says:

You nailed it man. Sure, they’re good, but they could use their talent to produce something more original. I don’t see how it’s even possible to make music like this without consciously saying “we want to sound like Meshuggah”. There are plenty of bands with a clear Iron Maiden influence in their music, who don’t necessarily sound like Iron Maiden, but this is Meshuggah we’re talking about. No one sounds like Meshuggah by accident, or because they’re subconsciously influenced by them. It’s a very specific sound that you have to actually strive for in order to imitate. So it’s kind of ridiculous that a band with enough talent to play like Meshuggah takes the lazy route as you said and simply plays like Meshuggah. These guys have the potential to be badass, but their music is so derivative that it kills the vibe. Personally, I can’t help but ignore how talented the musicians are if their music sounds exactly like something that’s been done better before.

  16. Damien L. says:

I actually really like it, it’s definately Meshuggah with a different name but they’re really good at it.

  17. Z says:

Oh my god. This is too much. The first song on their Myspace is basically directly aping Future Breed Machine. Fuck this band and fuck plagiarism.

  18. metalguy says:

Gojira?? arent they pretty big Meshuggah imitators?

  19. Mr.Whiskers says:

Gojira is not a Meshuggah imitator…
I listened to the bands songs, and there’s actually a part where the singer sings softly.Jens Kidman is a way better singer.
It’s not Meshuggah, somewhat close yes, but Meshuggah is still way fucking better than this shit.
    Meshuggah, get a lawyer.

  20. Motoghost says:

Who gives a crap! Bands are going to sound similar, just get over it. Imitator, innovator, and inventor are all pointless words to be used about ANY musical artist at this point. Unless the artist is from a definitive point outside of metal and actually has made a serious impact, everybody is just showing influence from people that came before them. No lawyers are needed and no comment wars, now I’m going to end this before another “(insert word here)core” genre is made

  21. YOURACUNT says:

SORRY MS BUT YOU HAVE BEEN YOURACUNTDID

  22. cosk says:

im not gonna lie, there are SO many meshuggah rip off bands, but i love the formula, so its like my favorite band puts out 2 to 3 albums a year. i like it.

  23. buster poindexter says:

I’m with the majority of comments. That band is pretty good, and I only say that because I love me some Meshuggah.

Here’s another Meshuggah rip off band I like. http://www.myspace.com/vorticerocks

    Name drop more Meshuggahcore bands!

  24. Elpants says:

I would much rather listen to this than Periphery, one of more terribad Meshuggah rip-offs.

I rather like this Neurothing, thanks for pointing me in the right direction for something to pirate.

  25. SolaceInNothing says:

I find it interesting when a band is obviously influenced from Meshuggah, their “copiers” but straight death metal and black metal bands who both blast beat and tremalo pick etc. etc. are just considered playing within their genre.

    • dethrucci says:

no they are not considered playing within their genre, because immitators are everywhere in metal. There is a huge difference between inventor and an immitator, its just that people are ignorant fucks that donot understand this fact.people like these give a bad name to death/black metal

  26. Malacoda says:

I have a message to all the people who go “Oh, you like Nachtmystium but call this shit?” etc etc to Axl. He’s calling this shit because it’s a blatant, 100% ripoff of the Meshuggah style, not because musically it’s bad. He’s making a judgment that we should all do in the future – not listening to crap bands that can’t come up with their own styles.

    And @ Elpants: Periphery owns.

  27. Ozy says:

Cloudkicker. They’re definetly a more melodic meshuggah(but pretty original). But it’s done one by one guy..and his music is free!

  28. Jordan Munson says:

    Fear Factory + Meshuggah + a hint of Static-X = these dudes
