pretty cool that even though they’re metallica, they still have time to rip out a few riffs from other bands’ songs and just goof off and have fun, and not be all serious like how they’re gonna practice their setlist.
besides i think it sounded ok. the audio sucks because it was taken from a handheld camera’s mic, and not through a soundboard nor real recording mics. lars has to lay off the china though.

That’s what I think anyway. I really agree about Slayer being overrated. For every good Slayer song, there are 5 or 6 really shitty ones. Reign In Blood is great, but that’s about it.
I must disagree, first of all Slayer always more or less stayed true to their music and their fans. And when you look at their discography the only bad album they ever put out is divine intervention. Slayer rules!

Slayer’s songwriting skills are nowhere near the caliber of Metallica. They have a few cool riffs, but they do the same shit all the time (Slayer, that is), whereas Metallica can write a great song in any genre (Kill ‘Em All’s punk-metal style, AJFA’s prog style, etc.), simply because they are so tasteful. Add to that that Metallica songs actually have emotional depth with interesting chord progressions and stellar musicianship.
I agree, Metallica CAN write a great song in any genre (St. Anger’s epic shit-in-muh-mouth style, Reload’s grunge-sells style). I don’t think Slayer has written anything even close to those 2 masterpieces.

the only real problem i had with that was their shitty-gritty guitar sound from the last album. other than that it was just another band playing soungs they like.
and lars sucks at drumming. he overuses crash symbals to cover up the fact that he cant play a fast beat
Metallica would never play this live at a show anyway, so everybody just chillax. Both Metallica and Slayer are awesome playing what they write. period
As a couple of people posted earlier, this is only the band goofing around. James and Kirk could certainly pull off the guitar parts (and it would be interesting to hear the song with a melodic solo). The only person lagging would be Lars, but that doesn’t surprise anyone.

Your are right, Mike. Most of us agree that new Metallica’s songwriting isn’t up to par, but to show a clip of them obviously fucking around and jamming a song that they clearly haven’t rehearsed just to say “hey look how bad they suck!” is just stupid.
I know that people who don’t play instruments sometimes assume that if your in a band like Metallica, you should be so good that you can flawlessly play anything on a whim, regardless if you actually know the song. Learning songs is takes time and work to play them well, even if your a badass.
I think the people who are being critical of this clip would be suprised to find out that their favorite band probably sounds a lot like this when there fucking around in the jam room too.
Dream Theater played the whole Master of Puppets, Number of the Beast & Dark Side of the Moon albums live, Flawlessly! So, as unfortunate as it may be, Metallica can’t really play any shit at the same caliber like they used to…
i agree, raining blood isnt too hard of a song to be able to play (just ask the thousands of guitar covers on youtube) the only person who would fallbehind would be lars because i dont think he can pack the speed that tom lambardo can deliver

God damn it I hate it when people say there’s no “emotion” in songs, that is ultimately why you don’t enjoy that song, because you don’t connect with it on an emotional level. Just because a song doesn’t have a bucketload of melodies, doesn’t make it unemotional, slayer is fucking brutal and gets me pumped every time i listen. Stop thinking about music from such a black and white perspective, understand that your opinion is not fucking final, i don’t particularly enjoy the beatles, i dont shit on anyone who says there the best band ever though.
All i know is that I knocked metallica for years, and felt they should have hung it up a long time ago. I saw them 2x in one week back in january, and those two shows blew away all 7 slayer shows I’ve been to. Every. Damn. One.
I haven’t even watched this video, and I don’t plan on it because I know I’m right, shitty rehearsal or not. They still pull it off in concert.
Oh and Psycopathy Red Blows, that is not the same band that wrote the seasons in the abyss album.

That was awful. You could amputate Dave Lombardo’s arms and legs and he still would be a superior drummer then Lars.
Lars is a crap drummer, I will concede that point. But again, at the shows I went to, he actually sounded like he had practiced and the sound itself wa sstupid heavy.
But yes, Lombardo > Ulrich. If anyone disagreess, then please inform me as to what drugs you’re on because I want some.
I don’t know.. but, in the early Thrash days if you compare the Metallica’s drumming with Testament`s, Exodu’es, and many other bands I can tell you that they were a little Fllopy in comparison.. The real great drumming were in bands like Slayer, Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth and Forbidden! anyway Lars suck on these days!!

Every Slayer album has been consistent, heavy, tight and worth the money you spent buying them whereas fucktards like Avenged Sevenfold, God Forbid and all the crappy bands that came out in the last decade are fucking one hit wonders….

Slayer’s okay but I find that most of their songs tend to sound the same. Otherwise, I love Metallica and would prefer not to get into this argument.
