MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER – “STEP UP, (I’M ON IT)” EXCLUSIVE PREMIER

Thursday, June 18th, 2009 at 1:00pm by Vince Neilstein

Southern hard-rock/metallers Maylene and the Sons of Disaster are back with their latest concoction of swampy, humongous grooves, their third album aptly titled III. This is just straight up, metal-influenced southern hard rock — no gimmicks, no shenanigans, just maximum rockage. The first single, “Just a Shock,” is currently streaming on their MySpace page and we’ve got an exclusive stream of the track “Step Up (I’m On It)” for you right here.

III comes out next Tuesday, June 23rd on Ferret Music, and the band will be on tour for 2 months starting in July with Emery.

Sweet! I love these guys. They sound very unshowered & whiskey-breathed. Good stuff.

    • NatashaAndTheSonsOfDisaster says:

Yeah, only that they’re not whiskey breathed because they’re christian and don’t drink. (: but they’re probably the most badass band on the planet. And they’re new album was fucking genius. They’re my favorite. (:

  2. Double D says:

That’s a great song. I have never heard of them besides the banner on the side of the page. I learned of a new band that I like today. I almost was happy about that but then the Depakote kept me safe from my emotions.

  3. Gigantic Faggot says:

I like these guys. They have a great sound. I feel like I should be driving a swampboat while holding a shotgun and drinking an ice cold Budweiser when I listen to them.

    • Sawyer Nichols says:

i actually have to listen to them every time i go bowfishing haha, i just get so pumped up.

  4. IAmHollywood says:

Exactly what I expected for the new CD. I’m definitely pumped to hear the rest.

  5. Cisco says:

Song is rockin’! Nice to see more Christian bands get noticed.

    • bucketochicken says:

Christianity *could* use a little more publicity, that’s for sure. It’s very under-the-radar as far as religions go…

  6. Duran says:

This song is tasty, I am pumped for the new album. Makes me wanna down some Jack and praise Jesus

  7. Kevin says:

    Its surprisingly good.

  8. bearwizard says:

    excellent! I wish they weren’t on Ferret….

  9. Sammy says:

With the intro I figured, “Oh great, another sound-alike Southern rock band,” but I stuck with it and it turns out to be pretty greasy and good, if not overly original.

    • andy says:

are you serious? if you consider southern rock to be a trend that’s come around in the past couple of years, MAYLENE STARTED IT.

      • ChickenShack says:

Southern Rock was around Waaaaay! before Maylene made a single note on a guitar. They do have a great sound though!

        • andy says:

i didn’t say they invented southern rock. I said they started the trend. since they went big, countless imitators have popped up – most of them have fizzled out. there WAS no southern rock/southern metal sound you’d hear at shows.. until maylene.

  10. CJ says:

Fuck yeah. Love this band. Good shit.

  11. metalguy says:

heard only one song by them and i like that one better, more metal. title has something to do with dark or evil, from Maylene 2

  12. SouthFL Infidel says:

I’ve had the album “II” for a while and I think it’s pretty damn bad-ass, overall and I still jam it frequently. I think these guys are a cut above the other southern-metall/rock sound-alike bands that are out there (Artimus Pyledriver, I’m looking at you). I like their style and their whole “hillbilly-outlaw-on-the-run” Ma Barker thing they’ve got going is pretty interesting and is a little different, but different in a way that I like. Looking forward to the new album.

  13. kingkronik says:

fuck ya maylenes back… keep on showering the plains with your southern groove

  14. vegard says:

their singer is still “the underoath dude” as far as i’m concerned, i liked a few of their songs from that era.

  15. knatek says:

Was kind of hoping for things to be a little bit heavier than the first two songs they’ve let loose, but the riffage is still good. I miss Dallas actually screaming. It seems like they’re most interested in being catchy than being nasty.

  16. NoSeriouslyIAmMetalDood says:

    This IS Dirty South.

  17. hardass says:

wow this is one of the few cases in which a line-up change actually worked out for the favor of the band. Besides that, am I the only person wondering what this cd is actually going to be about since they all died at the end of II? haha.

  18. boss says:

this is nasty it sounds a little like there first cd which i loved

  19. Jordan says:

This album is what I expected it to be. They get more and more original the longer they stay around. I love their first album, but their musical talent is broader than the git nasty sound they produced on their first run. All I know is my foot never stops tappin to the music and thats what makes for good listening, when you dont lose interest in the song and skip to the next.

  20. Brandon says:

for everyone who had not heard maylene before you guys are retards this album is gonna be soooo good getting wasted to this album daily !!!

  21. Jake says:

Southern by the grace of god, cant wait for the new album

  22. Jon Martins says:

Jesus Christ is probably headbanging around with this new album. It’s fucking awesome!
