THE NEW MEGADETH ALBUM…

Thursday, June 18th, 2009 at 11:17am by Axl Rosenberg

…will be called Endgame, and is “expected to be released in September through Roadrunner Records.”

And since we’re all about starting shit here at MetalSucks, let me get the ball rolling on this little discussion: with the Big Four all releasing new albums within the time span of about a year, where will this new Megadeth record stand? It’s hard to imagine it won’t be better than Death Magnetic, but, personally, I’m more excited for the latest release from Slayer and more curious about Anthrax’s Worship Music.

While you’re pondering you own feelings about a new Megarelease, here’s the band doing one of my favorite songs from the last record they put out that really got my dick hard…

This is going to suck big time…. remember my words

  2. sYgnal says:

It’s still so saddening to see such a dull & amateur release from one of my favorite classic bands(Metallica) but it’s absolutely ridiculous to mention them when thinking about Megadeth. Granted their last album didn’t really capture me but it was light years ahead of anything that the four horsemen have done in decades.
So, I’m pretty sure the new album will continue that successful formula.

As for Anthrax, they are becoming just like Metallica! How fucking long does it take to release a new album?
I’ve heard some tracks live & so far, I don’t really like the new singer but John Bush was getting stale on their later stuff as well.

  3. alliaphagist says:

This will probably be the best of the four.

  4. raiseyerfists says:

I enjoyed Megadeth’s last two albums a bunch, looking forward to this and the new Slayer

Anthrax…not so much. Not a fan of any Bush-era stuff at all, don’t imagine Worship Music will be any better.

  5. sYgnal says:

Oh yea… the new Slayer. I completely forgot.

  6. SourDeez says:

I thought The System Has Failed was mostly killer, and United Abominations mostly sucked, so by flip-flop logic Endgame will be mostly killer. I hope. Mustaine definitely still has it in him to play great music, but his songwriting has left something to be desired. It seems like a law of music that alcoholism and hard drug abuse lead to raw and kickass metal and sobriety just leads to bullshit “musical maturity”. That’s too bad.

You can listen to clips of their new song HeadCrusher on YouTube. It sounds wicked. And for anyone who doesn’t read the band’s blogs on their site daily, it really sounds like this is shaping up to be an epic album. Megadeth has slowly been working back toward their roots since they jumped ship after Countdown (or before Countdown, depending on who you ask. Either way, it will definitely be worth a listen, and along with new Slayer (coming out around the same time), this should be a great Summer/Fall for old school metalheads :-)

  8. Megadeth will be by far the best. I thought UA was awesome and if he is going a little heavier with this all the better.

  9. JRTME says:

Chris is Def the best guitar player to be in the band since Marty.

    So it that is plus.

But anyone that thinks any of these bands are gonna make albums that rival their 80s-90s stuff. Is hoping for too much.

So it will prob be cool. But it’s not gonna be RIP or Peace Sells.

  10. To me there is no doubt Megadeth will have the best album of the four. I think United Abominations was kick ass, washington is next, gears of war, sleep walker, all kicked ass. Im fucking pumped. Not to mention their live show is still amazing

  11. Bill says:

Megadeth never really strayed too far for too long from their original sound, so I’d bet it’s at least on par with their last few albums.
If the song Slayer released from their new album is an indication of the quality of the album as a whole, they might just take the cake here.

  12. Blake says:

The clip I heard of “Headcrusher” was the best Megadeth riff I’ve heard in years. Actually perked my ears up, and I’m a jaded motherfucker. I predict “Endgame” will be a big surprise to people, in a good way.

The new Slayer – well, they’re kinda like the AC/DC of thrash; a dealer you can trust. It’s gonna sound like Slayer, people are still gonna bitch about how it’s no “Reign In Blood,” etc.

Anthrax – c’mon, give the new guy a chance. I personally like how he’s a cross between John Bush’s tone and Joey Belladonna’s range. I think they know they’re fighting a tough battle to get recognized again after the reunion imploded, so that may come across in the material.

  13. borden says:

looking forward to the new megadeth release far more than anything slayer or anthrax will be coming out with. Slayer have bored the hell out of me for years now. I can’t wait for the new megadeth!!

  14. RobotScythe says:

While I liked “Death Magnetic” alot, I doubt Metallica will ever do anything again that made us feel the way those first four albums did.

I dug the hell out of United Abominations..best thing they’ve done since “Countdown” IMO. If they keep up the momentum they had on UA, this album should be great.

“Psycopathy Red” is a friggin’ KILLER Slayer tune. If the entire album is up to that quality, it’ll be a real special album.

And I’m really curious to hear the new Anthrax album. I’m going to really miss John Bush, but if they continue on in that spirit like they say they are, then it oughta be good.

Overall, I’m pretty optimistic about what’s on the horizon this summer.

    • groverXIII says:

Death Magnetic actually did give me the same sort of feeling that I got back when I discovered Metallica’s first four albums… it seems like I’m in the minority there, but I loved it.

  15. They can’t go wrong with Broderick in there.

  16. gnarlk says:

    meh-gadeth

  17. yanky says:

megadeth will def kick everyone out of the water

  18. Timmay! says:

    Never count Megadeth out

  19. Mark G. says:

holy shit Dave’s hair is awesome

  20. metalguy says:

im still trying to listen to the old classic slayer (yea i knowalittle late but i never get around to it) so im excited for Anthrax and Megadeth

  21. groverXIII says:

I’ve rather enjoyed the last few Megadeth albums (especially The System Has failed… Kick The Chair is a killer song), so I’m interested to see where Dave goes with Endgame.

  22. taog36 says:

chris brodereck is gonna make this one of the best megadeth albumes ever

  23. earth2tom says:

Megadeth is attempting to emulate Ozzy’s last two decades of pop metall and personalized religion. I use to root for Megadeth in the 80’s and 90’s, but now that Mustaine has illogically sold his soul to the chist delusion and offered to kiss the feet of a charlatan, I expect nothing but the worst from his efforts. The sad thing is that it will still be better Death Magnetic.

  24. Simon says:

    Death Magnetic is ok.

Megadeth’s last releases sucked donkey’s ass (especially TSHF), United Abominations was a step in the right direction, but it’s still an average album at best. Hopefully Chris Broderick will have positive influence on the Endgame. Btw the only social group that I hate more than born-again rockers, are born-again pornstars.

Anthrax’s only good album is The Greater of Two Evils. Belladonna was fucking annoying, but with him they wrote good songs. Bush is a great singer, but the albums with him suck.

Slayer is fuckin’ boring, releasing the same stuff every couple of years.

And Testament is the most consistent thrash band, releasing only at least solid metal albums though none of them was truly exceptional. But they always managed to deliver decent slab of metal.

    That is all.

    • Mark G. says:

Liar. Testament’s The Legacy, The New Order, and The Formation of Damnation are all among the greatest thrash albums ever! EVERRRR!!!

and I’m definitely looking forward to “Endgame”. I love United Abominations, not only was it a huge improvement over System, but it was a huge improvement over anything done post-1992. I’m even more stoked since I heard that clup from the new song “Headcrusher”.

  25. ChrisW says:

    > Testament is the most consistent thrash band

Without trying to say that one is better than the other (we all have our opinions), it seems to me that Overkill has done better than any others at maintaining their integrity while still developing their sound. I mean, their latest doesn’t sound like they did 20+ years ago, but it’s unmistakable thrash — and pretty good thrash at that.

  26. hibernum says:

That clip made me sad. Remember when Megadeth was good? Those were the days…

Here’s what Dave needs to do. He needs to totally embrace the fact that he is old. Grow a scraggly grey beard (yes I spell grey the English way). Write slower songs that are dark, moody, and introspective. You’d think a recovering alcoholic who did coke, heroin, and crack would have a lot of interesting things to say. But no, Dave just whines about being born again and how bad the UN is. Lame lame lame.

His heart isn’t into thrash anymore, and really hasn’t been for at least a decade. I remember seeing him on MTV2 almost ten years ago when it was only on in college towns and him talking about how he likes Jamiroquai and Shakespears’ Sister. What a fag! Let’s be realistic, he probably isn’t into metal anymore. Oh well, people get old, they change. The man rides horses for fuck’s sake. You tell me you are on divorce number two with a mansion, a BMW, and horses in your back yard and you are going to make the same angry metal you did when you were 19 and broke drinking Old Grandad straight from the bottle and passing out on the floor of your studio apartment in the ghetto?

So yeah, fuck new Megadeth. So how does Slayer do it?

  27. Fufkin says:

I’m sure this will be solid, it might even be fantastic but it has to be said – This Day We Fight! has already got howler written all over it.

    Worst Megadave songtitle ever?

And it’s about Lord Of The Rings? Christ… he’s only 20 years late there.

  28. AxeRipper says:

    Cage match: Mustaine vs King

  29. Gitter says:

Granted, I’m biased. Granted. I’ve been driving around to the finished album for a few days now. Granted. Dave Mustaine. Andy Sneap. Chris Broadrick with a lot to prove, You be the judge,

Now I’m looking forward to the Anthrax and Slayer record…time for three of the four horsemen to stroke the labia of greatness.

    • Blake says:

Dude, Mike Gitter! I remember when Obituary’s “The End Complete” came out and you wrote an article for RIP Magazine titled “Gory Gory Hallelujiah!” Well done, sir. Well done.

  30. deathead666 says:
