Back in 92 my then band had recorded a shitty sounding 4 song demo with a guy who produced us for a 6 pack of Shiner Bock. we knew they sounded bad so instead of attempting to sell them, we would just throw them to crowds from the stage in hopes that we could momentum via word of mouth. long story short, our next gig ended with a group of kids throwing the tapes back at us. it seems they'd rather have just listened to us live than that shitty demo.

Good Advice... Personally, I'd say work to master your instrument & master your musical communication with the members in your band(i.e. improvisation, song structure) as well. Once you have become some what happy with your ability then recording is a breeze. I say somewhat because mastering an instrument can take a lifetime. There is soo much to learn. BUT, I agree - Recording in an archive mode allows for great progress.

The other tip: Record everything in the best possible sampling.
