Sadly, download-only releases are going to be the future.
There are only a few mass quantity CD manufacturing facilities left, and with the rising costs of paper and plastic making physical examples nearly cost prohibitive, this is the only way the record companies will be able to survive.

I, for one, will really miss being able to fetish the packaging and such while listening to an album. ahhh… the lost beauty of the gatefold vinyl LP is almost gone the way of the Dodo. Soon the CD will be gone too.

Commercially successful or not;
Audioslave is just plain shit. They had 2-3 decent songs out of 3 albums. They made money but lost all cred in doing so.
Cornell was great with Soundgarden, and Rage was great with Zack.
Yes; both of these bands had become stale near the ends of their respected careers, but this combination is like peanut butter and mustard.

Hiring a new singer, whether similar or not to the previous one and carrying on is nothing but a cash-grab.
Sorry; but when this happens, they should change their name and start over. A new singer totally changes how a band sounds; mostly because most people perceive the vocal as the most important factor in a band’s sound (WTF?)

at the end of the interview, they actually reveal an interesting marketing strategy: instead of doing albums, they just keep touring forever and release two songs every two months…obviously appealing to internet distribution, and working without label promotion.

anyone think this would work? or do we still need songs organized in albums to really get a grip on them?

Hell are you talking about? Audioslave was immensely successful and well received, why would they try to cheaply replace their unique vocalist with some hack imitating him? They went in a melodic direction instead, it’s, fucking get this, called growing musically.
