A BIG TUESDAY FOR NEW RELEASES: KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SUICIDE SILENCE AND MORE

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009 at 4:01pm by Vince Neilstein

killswitch engage self-titledHaven’t done one of these posts in a while because, well, there hasn’t been a Tuesday this important in quite some time. The following albums are available for legal, legit purchasing today:

  • Killswitch Engage – Killswitch Engage: The band everyone hates to love or loves to hate. Prediction: this record goes Top 10 first week, possibly even Top 5.
  • Suicide Silence – No Time to Bleed: Deathcore upstarts attempt to [suicide] silence the naysayers with their second Century Media full-length. This writer thinks they’ve done it.
  • Obituary – Darkest Days: O.G. death metallers return with their eighth full-length.
  • Ex Deo – Romulus: Roman-themed metal helmed by Kataklysm frontman Maurizio Iacono. We think the tunes are solid and the music video is beyond epic.

Oh hey look, rock’s resident asshole Ted Nugent also has a CD/DVD out today! Killer! Psych.

If you’ve already heard these albums tells us what you think of them in the comments. We’ll report the sales figures for all of these albums as soon as we get them in next Wednesday. In the meantime, go n’ buy some music so some broke-ass dudes can eat! Except Ted Nugent, unless you want your money to go straight to the NRA.

  1. Rancidcorpse says:

    Ted Nugent for President

  2. Johnny Death says:

All of Ted’s money won’t go to the NRA. Bullets are getting more and more expensive and exotic animal hunts aren’t cheap either!

  3. Anthony says:

KsE’s new album is a little dissapointing. And that’s coming from someone who loves End of Heartache and also likes As Daylight Dies.

  4. Blake says:

I’m in the minority for sure, but I really like the new KsE. I thought the last couple of albums were starting to retread themselves, but this one really expands on Howard’s awesome singing voice. One of the best tenors I’ve heard in modern music, regardless of genre.

  5. cink says:

Nah the new one is a step in the right direction and a step-up from ADD.

  6. Mark G. says:

Thy Will Be Done have a new album out, too.

  7. Jordan says:

    KSE = trash
Suicide Silence = MUCH better than their first release, pretty good all-in-all
    Obituary = AWESOME record
Ex Deo = from what little I had heard, it’s “meh”

    • Lord Bling says:

I agree that the new Suicide Silence is better than their last one, but it’s still not doing much for me. Glad to know Obituary has a new one out though, so I’ll have to pick it up.

I haven’t bought a KSE album since End of Heartache, which I sold about a month later. They should be on a Gilmore Girls soundtrack.

  8. Dr.J says:

Suicide Silence’s new record is as boring as The Cleansing minus the gimmicks that made it interesting plus misplaced textures tacked on.

    • HagstromSpeed says:

Yeah, it fucking sucks….every song sounds the same, and their guitar player needs to move past the 3rd fret one day…

  9. Biff Tannen says:

Whats wrong with the NRA ?

    • Garske says:

      FUCK YEA!

      NRA!

    • The Ghost of D. Boon says:

Read Eyal’s blog a few posts down and YOU tell ME what’s wrong with the NRA.

      • Johnny Death says:

I don’t know, but something tells me to doubt that guy was an actual NRA member. More likely another criminal with a stolen gun for you to push your negative beliefs.

        • The Ghost of D. Boon says:

Way to miss my point. It doesn’t matter if the shooter was an NRA member. The NRA wants to make it easier for everybody to access guns, they want to do away with waiting periods. They support “gun show” purchasing, they support deregulation for assault rifle ownership. They advocate for putting dangerous weapons in the hands of anybody. Anybody.

As for “criminal with a stolen gun”: Have you ever sped while driving? Littered? Pirated a song or movie? You’re a criminal too. There’s no such thing as a separate class of people known as “criminal”, no genetic trait that makes a person who commits crimes different from you or I. The only difference between a criminal and a so-called “law-abiding citizen” is committing a crime, which anybody has the capacity to do, particularly when you place a loaded weapon in their hands.

And how do you think those guns were stolen in the first place? If it wasn’t such a breeze to get a gun in the first place, if so many Americans didn’t think it was a god-given right to arm themselves with deadly weapons, then there wouldn’t be so many guns to steal in the first place.

  10. groverXIII says:

Suicide Silence should be a hit with the Hot Topic crowd…

  11. Gary Suarez says:

Are there any GOOD albums out today?

  12. EdSW says:

I guess Killswitch’s new album is slightly disappointing but still Fucking brilliant. Not as good as EOH or ADD.

    • Kevin says:

Yeah, I would pretty much go in that boat and say the same thing. It’s grown on me, but it’s still no ADD and definitely no TEOH. But it’s still great shit.

  13. Brutal Jay says:

    NRA for the win, bitches.

  14. Leo says:

and today new THY WILL BE DONE album “In Ancient Of Days” with exclusive edition at all hottopic locations

  15. SolaceInNothing says:

I must admit I, even as a Suicide Silence fan, I was a little worried for the boys from Cali over their sophomoric effort, and boy do I feel like a silly goose for doing so!

Listening to the album a few times since yesterday (the preorder came in early), “Something Invisible” and “Wasted” are my personal favorites so far; they are as crushing as they are groovy, which reminds me of almost a cross between Meshuggah and Bloodbath.

“No Time To Bleed” will not reinvent the wheel and rewrite the book of metal itself, however it is absolutely a solid effort and a total step in the right direction for them. Suicide Silence both amp up the intensity and atmosphere, for this does not play like just a collection of songs, it feels like a complete and conclusive album, which holds for a very enjoyable listening experience overall.

  16. Me says:

new killswitch is growing on me but it is no “The End of Heartache”. I don’t think the new Suicide Silence will get a buy from me because I barely spin their old album except for one or two songs on occasion.

  17. razorsharp codpiece says:

when I heard lifted a few months ago on myspace, I thought maybe suicide silence turned a corner. Alas, their record is really fucking bad. I feel sorry for their singer, I like the dude’s voice alot. But there is only so much he can do over these half assed 8 string ”death metal” riffs. Actually, I don’t feel sorry for the singer at all, because his band is huge, and mine isn’t.

    • SolaceInNothing says:

“Actually, I don’t feel sorry for the singer at all, because his band is huge, and mine isn’t.”

Aha, yeah I think that’s the sentiment of allot of people.

    • Jizzmaster3000 says:

I had the same thoughts too when I heard Lifted. After hearing the full album however, I quickly realised it’s the same old 3 fret shit, just gargabe. To the person that said that the album rewrites the book of metal. Just fuck off. Fuck off and die. Also fuck the NRA.

      • Solaceinnothing says:

Well first of all, you are technically refering to my post, second of all you need to learn how to read. I will quote myself to make things easier on you:

“(No Time To Bleed) will not reinvent the wheel and rewrite the book of metal itself, however it is absolutely a solid effort . . .”

Now there, don’t you feel stupid? I agree.

  18. thebenthic says:

i can pretty much guarentee that the new killswitch will be the same shit as the album before this one. its gonna blow for sure. they havent put anything good out since end of heartache. after that its all been BULLSHIT now theyre a shitty band.

suicide silence’s new cd is better than the last one but still wouldnt buy it.

  19. \m/Eluveitie\m/ says:

    NRA
    Know your rights

  20. jonowev says:

    My verdicts on them:

    Suicide Silence – 9/10
    KsE – 7/10
    Obituary – 7/10

    Havent heard the other one

  21. Ben says:

Count me in as another name in the hat in support of the NRA.

  22. Fong Chung says:

LOL @ Suicide Silence being compaired to Meshuggah and Bloodbath LOL!!!

    Obituary – 10/10
Suicide Job For A Despised Icon Cowboy Silence – 0/10
    Killswitch Engayge – Utter failure

  23. rayray says:

The new KSE might be there best album to date. Everyone should really give the album a few listens through. I personally think its incredible. I dont care if Howard Sings more. Its still heavy and is KSE. The new Suicide Silence is good but not as good as “The Cleansing”

  24. GraZmus says:

Suicide Silence is brilliant, much better than their 1st..
New Killswitch…well…..It’s their worst album IMO.. The gutars are heaps basic, gone is the technical riffs off there past. All the heavy parts sound the same…Very Dissapointing (And i dont think Adam D sings a bar on this cd aswell) The obnus track is the BEST on the album.
Obituary is Same Ol’ Same Ol’

  25. Santa Claus says:

That Ex-Deo album is sick IMHO.

  26. Santi says:

I thought the new KsE was pretty good. It does sound different from their other albums, but nothing I haven’t heard before in the metalcore genre.
    3.5 out of 5

  27. Patrick says:

No Time To Bleed- It took me a few times through but this record is awesome. A slightly better album in variety then “The Cleansing.” It is very heavy and the melodic parts have increased and are very good. I dont care for the atmospherics in “Lifted.” I have listened to it 10 times and I am discovering that it is a great modern death metal CD. Sorry boys….

“Your Creations”, “Wasted” and “Disengage” are all amazing!

Killswitch Engage – One time through and I love it. It is very, very good.
I think I still like “ADD” a tad bit better but its only one time through.

  28. -gODGRINDER- says:

Don’t forget about “Souls of Damnation” by Blood Red Throne. I picked it up today and it is AMAZING.

  29. tyler09 says:

    the killswitch cd is amazing.
the suicide silence cd is also amazing and has a really awesome cover of “Them Bones”
best use of $22 in a long time

  30. masterjake5000 says:

New suicide silence is fucking hard. They have definitely gotten better…some similarities to “The Cleansing” but alot of differences as well. I think the songs are way more unique on No Time To Bleed when compared to their first effort. In my opinion, heaviest album of the year so far. As for Killswitch Engage, its pretty average. Same shit different album for them…which seems to be pretty dam good for most people. I havent heard the others yet.

  31. Brian \m/(-_-)\m/ says:

as a HUGE killswitch fan since the first self-titled album, i went out and nabbed the new album as soon as it hit the shelves, and my reaction after the first listen can be summed up as a resounding “ehhhhh.” so i tried listening again. meh. and once more for good luck. meh. i dont know exactly what it is but this album just doesnt speak to me. its the same KSE (read as: “Adam D”) sound but its just not doing it for me. maybe thats the issue, its time to change it up a bit. over the course of the last 3 albums (new one included) they havent deviated too much from their standard sound. then again, its hit-or-miss when you decide to mix it up, especially in metalcore. sometimes it really works (gonna get speared for these but, bodom, dimmu borgir, and dare i say in flames? sue me but i really really like a sense of purpose), and sometime it sucks hard (ATR, Trivium, and Metallica to name a few). there are a billion examples of it going either way, but those are a few. i think it might be worth it for killswitch to try and deviate a lil bit.
as far as suicide silence, ive only heard a few of the songs but from what i heard it does sound like they stepped it up big time for this one. i will continue to investigate.
ex deo…i havnt even heard of them before now but people are raving. ill check it out.
    \m/(-_-)\m/

  32. Brian \m/(-_-)\m/ says:

oh and ps. hate 2 state the obvious, but FUCK TED NUGENT!!!

  33. i think says:

all of them are average. more of just adding to older albums rather than making something new

but thats not bad if you like the bands old stuff

  34. I’m waiting for Suicide Silence and IWABO reviews, bring it on!

  35. peter m says:

    new killswitch is great
and new suicide cd is a bit better than the cleansing but still nothing special
