MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER – “STEP UP, (I’M ON IT)” EXCLUSIVE PREMIER

Thursday, June 18th, 2009 at 1:00pm by

Southern hard-rock/metallers Maylene and the Sons of Disaster are back with their latest concoction of swampy, humongous grooves, their third album aptly titled III. This is just straight up, metal-influenced southern hard rock — no gimmicks, no shenanigans, just maximum rockage. The first single, “Just a Shock,” is currently streaming on their MySpace page and we’ve got an exclusive stream of the track “Step Up (I’m On It)” for you right here.

III comes out next Tuesday, June 23rd on Ferret Music, and the band will be on tour for 2 months starting in July with Emery.

SO THE NEW SUICIDE SILENCE ALBUM LEAKED

Thursday, June 18th, 2009 at 12:03pm by

A whole butt load of you have e-mailed us in the past twenty-four hours to alert us to the fact that Suicide Silence’s new album, No Time to Bleed, has leaked.

Now, normally, we don’t acknowledge leaks. In fact, we usually remove any links to leaks you folks post in our comments section. We’re not dumb; we know shit leaks all the time, and we know that if you’re motivated enough and not a complete ree-ree, you will find the leak you’re looking for fairly quickly. You really don’t need our help to steal music.

That being said, we’re gonna make an exception this one time, ’cause, uhhh… well, we found this amongst the various links y’all sent us to download the record, and it’s pretty fucking funny. Download the leak from this link to hear what we’re talking about (You can also give a listen above). You gotta wonder why more bands don’t do shit like this.

For those of you who will do the menschy thing and actually purchase No Time to Bleed the old-fashioned way (and I happen to think the record is worth the coin), the album drops June 30. You can pre-order it (with a t-shirt!) here.

the onion logoThe Onion + Metal? Why not?

MS Maniac “bear wizard” alerted us yesterday to the fact that The Onion’s A/V Club has added a metal column to their previously pedestrian range of music coverage. Ex-Metal Edge contributor Leonard Pierce heads up the new “Metal Box” column for The Onion, which joins the growing list of publications now covering metal.

THE NEW MEGADETH ALBUM…

Thursday, June 18th, 2009 at 11:17am by

…will be called Endgame, and is “expected to be released in September through Roadrunner Records.”

And since we’re all about starting shit here at MetalSucks, let me get the ball rolling on this little discussion: with the Big Four all releasing new albums within the time span of about a year, where will this new Megadeth record stand? It’s hard to imagine it won’t be better than Death Magnetic, but, personally, I’m more excited for the latest release from Slayer and more curious about Anthrax’s Worship Music.

While you’re pondering you own feelings about a new Megarelease, here’s the band doing one of my favorite songs from the last record they put out that really got my dick hard…

COURTNEY LOVE DECIDES TO SULLY HOLE’S ALREADY DAMAGED REPUTATION

Thursday, June 18th, 2009 at 11:10am by

lovefest

Paleozoic UK-based periodical NME reported today that Courtney Love will release her long-delayed second solo record as a Hole album. Apparently, none of the band’s other members will actually perform on the record, save for a possible appearance on backing vocals by Hole’s last bassist Melissa auf der Maur. With a brazen move that would make Burton and Dino blush, the Gratest Bloggre On Earht has effectively delivered a huge fuck you to co-founder Eric Erlandson by co-opting the name in an attempt to save her perpetually disintegrating career.

AN ARSONIST STOLE MY GIRL

What the fuck is happening in the world of deathcore? Job for a Cowboy’s Genesis didn’t really sound like Doom, All Shall Perish’s Awaken the Dreamers didn’t really sound like The Price of Existence, Suicide Silence’s No Time to Bleed doesn’t really sound like The Cleansing, and all evidence suggests that Born of Osiris’ A Higher Place will not really sound like The New Reign. Whether you love or hate these bands, there’s no denying that they’re evolving at a rapid pace.

And it looks like we can add Arsonists Get All the Girls to the list. The band has a new song, “Saturnine,” currently streaming on their MySpace page, and while it retains a lot of the Sumeriancore elements we love about the group, it’s a pretty far cry from anything off of The Game of Life. And although all the line-up changes since that album’s release probably have something to do with that, I don’t think there can be any doubt that the band has a creative desire to stretch their wings, too.

#14: SYSTEM OF A DOWN – TOXICITY

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 at 5:00pm by

SPECIAL GUEST BLOGGER ROB PASBANI OF METAL INJECTION

21best1

toxicity

We recently polled a wide array of musicians, managers, publicists, label reps, and writers from within the world of metal to find out what they thought the 21 Best Metal Albums of the 21st Century So Far have been. Eligible albums were released between January 1, 2000 and  April 1, 2009. Each panelist turned in a ballot, with their #1 album worth 21 points, their #2 album worth 20 points, and so on and so forth. The ballots are now in and we’ll be counting down one album a day until we reach #1. Today we present the #14 album, coming in with a total of 124 points…

System of a Down, Toxicity (American, 2001)

Serj Tankian — Vocals, Keyboards
Daron Malakian — Guitars, Vocals
Shavo Odadjian — Bass

John Dolmayan — Drums
Produced by Rick Rubin, Daron Malakian and Serj Tankian

You know how certain songs or albums trigger memories for you? Well, System of A Down’s sophmore release, Toxicity, definitely brings me back to the late summer/early Fall of 2001. I immediately remember being drunk, joy riding with friends and screaming the chorus to “Deer Dance” at the top of my lungs. I remember the day we got the advanced copy of the CD at my college radio station and how I couldn’t believe how heavy this album was. I remember listening to it non-stop for literally three months straight. I have never done that with an album before or since.

COMPLETELY UNREADABLE BAND LOGO OF THE WEEK, BROUGHT TO YOU BY ROADRUNNER RECORDS – WIN A COPY OF CKY’S CARVER CITY!

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 at 4:30pm by

Pussies. That’s all I have to say to you all: you’re all fucking pussies.

Not a single person correctly identified last week’s logo, which, in case you’re curious, belongs to the band Hipermenorrea. Of course, someone did manage to guess it was Slipknot and some other moron decided it belonged to cKy themselves. But no one got Hipermenorrea.

So, let’s try this again. We’ve got two (2) copies of cKy’s latest, Carver City, courtesy the very nice people at Roadrunner Records, who are equally disappointed that you’re all pussies.

All you have to do to win is identify the name of the band whose logo appears below, then shoot me an e-mail with your answer, your name and address at axl AT metalsucks DOT net. We’ll randomly select two winners from everyone who gets it right, and announce his or her names next week.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LOGO DOES NOT BELONG TO A BAND THAT IS CURRENTLY OR HAS BEEN IN THE PAST SIGNED TO ROADRUNNER RECORDS. You schmucks are gonna give me a freakin’ coronary if you don’t cut that shit out.

This week’s logo was suggested by Mark Moritz-Rabson. He, too, hopes you people aren’t too pussy to get it this week.

THIS WEEK IN SOUNDSCAN: CHICKEN-WHAT?

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 at 4:01pm by

This week in Soundscan, supergroup Chickenfoot shifted a ridiculous number of records. I’m baffled too. Elsewhere, Iron Maiden had a solid debut and bands like Nickelback, Hollywood Undead, Shinedown, Slipknot, and Metallica continued on with business as usual.

GET BEHIND MAGRUDERGRIND

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 at 3:00pm by

magrudergrind-album-cover

Holy frozen poop stick, I feel like we’ve been waiting for Magrudergrind’s Willowtip debut, like, for-ever. It’s been two years since the D.C. outfit’s last full-length, and the tracks they contributed to Scott Hull’s grind/powerviolence collection, 2008′s This Comp Kills Fascists, were fuckin’ face-melters.

Well, the wait is almost over: the band’s self-titled album will be out June 30. And if you can’t wait another two weeks – and really, who could blame you? – there’s now an e-card with samples of a few songs.

Now, there’s something kinda funny about having samples of songs that, in all likelihood, are only one to two minutes long to begin with, but, hey, I dig this band too much to poke fun.

Check out the e-card here.

P.S. All this year’s best album covers belong to grind releases. Shame on you, death metal.

NON-FEAR FACTORY FEAR FACTORY MAY NOT BE CALLED FEAR FACTORY AFTER ALL (GOT ALL THAT?)

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 at 1:00pm by

fight-over-moneyQuick re-cap: first original Fear Factory members Dino Cazares and Burton C. Bell announced they were teaming up with non-original Fear Factory member Byron Stroud and never-a-Fear Factory member Gene Hoglan to start a band that would not be called Fear Factory.

Several weeks later the band announced that they would be called Fear Factory.

Now our pal Anso DF at Hipsters Out of Metal! is reporting that original Fear Factory drummer Raymond Herrera told some radio show that nu-Fear Factory can’t be called Fear Factory no’ mo’:
