I was at the Calgary show.

Pretty much the consensus from everyone there I talked to was:
1. Machine Head fucking ruled! But their set was waaaay too short! And everyone who didn’t know about them before the show was a fan after the show.
2. Slayer just wasn’t into it. They were on autopilot and dissapointed a lot of fans.
3. Megadeth put on a great show (I don’t really like 80’s hair metal, but they had their game on that night)
4. Suicide silence was forgettable

I would definitely pay retarded amounts of $ to see Machine Head again!
But the fact that I just bought Killswitch Engage/ In Flames tickets for HALF the price, made this show not worth the ticket price.

I like this post…everyone pretty much made a solid point, however, in relation to the whole subject heading / topic of the conversation…Mustaine DOES NOT like Slayer, and he made it quite clear…I think Kerry King could be right there too..with his arrogance or lack of interest, etc…can’t really say much about the rest of the band members in the ‘Deth camp…revolving door…but I really like Araya & Lombardo…they always seem like they’re down to earth and wouldn’t say anything shitty in public about their peers [I could be wrong, speculating..], evidently a sense of professionalism that Mustaine apparently lacks from day one…their skills as musicians were not in question here.

Yeah I saw Slayer in Ottawa on their last tour with Unearth and it was so boring. Nothing will ever match the 2 hour set I saw them play in 2000 with Machine Head.

Sometimes even great bands have their bad days, I suppose, after reading some of the comments, that maybe because they went on before Megadeth, they were not feeling it, as someone pointed out, there are numerous reasons, which we might not be aware of, however in the aforementioned book in my first comment, Mustainepersonally actually admits his arrogance ,,,great musician he may be, it does not change the simple fact that HE IS a condescending asshole “…those guys had a nice trip on the way down in the bus — we flew.“ = asshole basking in self-proclaimed victory…I guarantee there were some killer Slayer shows put on whil Mustain & Co. were still recovering from bullshit like Cryptic Writing and Risk…

p.s. Suicide Silence are following trends too fast…no one will rmmbr that shit a decade later.

for Metallica – - first three granted,,,til Cliff passed on…altho, I personally love Justice…anything after isn’t that great, sorry…asfor rolling in money…FUCK THAT, I’d rather be broke and have some self integrity, retire before cashing in on a BRAND name, not a real band anymore…

for Megadeth – - Peace Sells..defintiely R.I.P…but now he’s cashing in as well

f you can’t tell the, perhaps the subtle, differences b/w the albums, then you’re not a true fan of the band

you have a point. araya was reasonably charismatic, but he didnt really do anything except throw his picks into the pit. mustaine chatted and showed off and everything you could ask for. but i blamed the fact that slayer played first.

Just seen Slayer and Megadeth in Calgary. Slayer was boring and sloppy IMO. I was hoping for Slayter to kill it but felt disapointed being a huge fan. Megadeth and Chris Broderick were tighter than a nuns cunt. MachineHead killed but only played for a around 30 minutes. Suicide Silence were a joke. Don’t get why or how they sell the amount of records they do. Every song – Chug chug chug – chuga chuga chuga Chug chug chug – wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! PIG squeal…. Anyways Tom and Kerry looked uninterested as I will be with the new Slayer Album.

If recent shows I’ve seen by both Mustaine and Slayer are any indication, Mustaine actually still likes playing live while King is the most bored, barely-going-through-the-motions rock musician on the planet. And his bandmates rate barely 1 higher on the performance meter.
