IN FLAMES TOUR WITH THREE AWESOME BANDS. WILL THEY SURVIVE?

When we saw In Flames tour with Gojira last year, there ended up being a kind of major problem: the Frogs blew the Swedes off the stage. See, as much as I love In Flames, their set was kind of A Sense of Purpose-heavy, and, well, they just couldn’t match Gojira for sheer goose-bump-inducingness.

Now the melodeath stars have announced a trek with Between the Buried and Me, The Faceless and 3 Inches of Blood. Holy crap, that’s a great bill – there isn’t a weak band on the tour.  Hopefully BTBAM get a long enough set time to play more than just two or three songs, The Faceless are just a goddamn sight to behold live, and y’know 3IOB will slay. If In Flames don’t bring their A-game, they’re gonna get upstaged by their support bands again.

Announced tour dates can be found here.

Gojira’s not THAT great live. Although I enjoyed their set, I enjoyed In Flames much more on that tour.

  2. BlakMetallistKrieg says:

I never liked In Flames. Their singers voice doesn’t do anything for me, same with Soilwork.

  3. Sin and Death says:

Aww, aw, Goddammit! Closest show is three hours from my location. Suminabitch! I hope thay add more dates….

  4. Blair says:

This Has nothing on the Canadian Leg of Touring. In Flames with Killswitch, Protest the Hero, and BTBAM. Gonna Be an epic night for sure

  5. Politude says:

I agree with Blair, if you think In Flames will be demoralized after THIS tour, consider that right before it they play Canada with Killswitch, Protest the Hero (who apparently run show) AND BTBAM (who ALSO run show IMO) If In Flames plays 9-10 songs off ASOP, they will have a rough night ahead of them.

In Flames is on tour? Why should I care? Who’s opening for them?? 3 Inches of Blood, The Faceless and Between the Buried and Me?!?!?

Um, what? All of your questions were answered by the main story, or by yourself.

      • Domestic_Terror says:

Uh, yeah. I got that. Those would be rhetorical questions, and my best attempt at depicting my train of thought as I read this article.

I am stoked for the show in Boston

  8. Senior Swanky says:

if I go to the Jersey show will they give me my money back for their last 2 albums?

  9. Kye says:

    Well, I just came.

  10. Jazmin H says:

you just made my morning with a mega boner.
    Fox Theater here I come

  11. Frampler says:

They’ve been poor every time I’ve seen them. The Knight Rider entrance when playing between Lamb of God and Slayer at Brixton didn’t help matters!

  12. Ziltoid says:

    lol, N*FLAMES

all I can say is that whoever does booking/tour organizing for The Faceless does an excellent job. I don’t even care for them at all, but they’ve been on a lot of good and/or big tours in the last 12 months.

    • SonOF says:

I’d agree with that comment regarding The Faceless..they have been on some sweet tours already in their young career.

  13. SonOF says:

In Flames will be fine with this lineup. Despite BTBAM and The Faceless’ greatness, both bands are still too technical/complex for some listeners, which doesn’t necessarily add up to an accessible live show. In Flames will serve up that very listenable, crowd-friendly anthemic stuff they are known for, the crowd will respond, and all will be well. I’m not even putting 3 Inches of Blood in the equation; their 20 minute set of foolishness will serve as an excellent piss break for most people attending the show.

  14. godmoney says:

I’ll agree when I saw Gojira open for In Flames in Vancouver they were nothing short of incredible, but to say they blew away In Flames.. well I have to disagree. Not because they aren’t as good as In Flames, because they definitely deserve to have their name uttered in the same breath. In Flames played a lot of their old stuff, and anyone who knows anything about In Flames knows that their old shit is some of the best shit ever. So as great as Gojira is now, old In Flames > Gojira. Nuff said.

    • SonOF says:

Yeah, despite the quality of BTBAM, The Faceless, Gojira or whoever else, none of these bands have CLASSIC songs that are sure to fire up a crowd like an In Flames set will. Despite what you may think of In Flames’ recent records, the band is pretty damn close to “legendary” status in metal circles. The other bands mentioned may get to that level, but they aren’t there yet.

  15. SonOF says:

It seems that skipping NYC and just playing Starland in Jersey is the new trend among touring metal bands, and it friggin’ sucks. I guess bookers think that because of Starland’s location that both NYC and Jersey people will both come (and maybe certain NYC venues are difficult to work with for some reason?), but that’s not the case for me, and plenty of other NYC and Long Island folks I have spoken to. I know that I have deciding against going to quite a few great shows for the reason of not wanting to trek to Jerz-y, and I know I’m not alone. Is it that difficult to book Starland AND an NYC show? It’s not like they won’t draw huge crowds at BOTH. ::/

    • Ziltoid says:

They played NYC last tour (December). It’s silly to play in the same city on two consecutive tours so close to each other.

  16. o0Stacey0o says:

I guess skipping the midwest is just, ya know, the cool thing to do in 2009. Fuck my life.

  17. Patrick says:

Closest show for me is in Nashville, five hours away but I might go.
I love In Flames and almost any set list will be good for me.
And I do like “Color”s from BTBAM although I dont like it as much as I used to.

  18. Mancubus says:

Don’t you hate it when sweet tours pass over Chicago?

    • Facebook User says:

i do hate it when they skip the chicago area. I was very close to driving 5-6hrs to Nashville because i fucking love the shit out of In Flames but i didnt have the money at the time >_<. Mabey nxt year.

“IN FLAMES TOUR WITH THREE AWESOME BANDS. WILL THEY SURVIVE?”

Uh, so where are the three awesome bands, cause all I see up there is suck, suck, and suck?

    • Strep Townsend says:

First off, I don’t know why I like Gojira but I do, secondly, In Flames has sucked since Reroute to Remain, I saw BtBaM at Progressive Nation, and they bored the shit out of me, Faceless and 3IOB are also just generic.

      • bombs away says:

can’t agree with you more, RTR was the turning point for an amazing band. Downhill, barely listenable ever since.

  20. Elpants says:

I’ll be going, but god damn, The Faceless are horrible live, probably one of the biggest disappointments live I have ever seen. Last I saw them was on the tour with Obscura and Cannibal Corpse.

Can’t wait to hear some new BtBaM.

  21. FreedomThirtyFive says:

I saw In Flames play right before Lamb of God on a tiny stage at a festival in Oz earlier this year and although they didnt play as much old stuff as I would have liked, they had awesome stage presence and played a killer set. They even seemed to really enjoy playing still after all these years.
