DEVILDRIVER: PLAY PRAY
Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 at 11:00am by Axl Rosenberg
DevilDriver’s latest rock-solid chunk of American New Wave, Pray for Villians, doesn’t come out for another week, but you can listen to it now, in its entirety, here. Give it a listen and then come back here and let us know what you think!
You can also check out DevilDriver this summer on the MetalSucks co-sponsored Thrash & Burn tour. Get concert dates here.

i love it. great album and its their best work by far.
its awesome, good groove
but its miising a song like head on to heartache
its good, but they’ve changed… somehow…
It’s definitely in your face, but the hooks are pretty weak this time around.
Why couldn’t a band I like have an owl like that on their cover? Now it’ll never happen.
I can’t listen unless I’m from Germany. :(
same here
yeah same
Oh yeah and Fuck Thrash and Burn. The first day you guys posted dates you had Salt Lake City and I got really excited. Now? umm it has disappeared. Fucking gay
I agree, fuck Thrash and Burn. Just because the lineup is so goddamn shitty and hardly “thrash”. The only reason I’m going is because Thy Will Be Done and Devildriver are performing, oh and it’s $20.
Fuck Thrash and Burn for skipping the Bay Area. I’d have loved to go.
Easily their best work to date. It seems like The Last Kind Words was stuck in the same groove they used on A Great Day to Die throughout the entire album. They finally broke out of that rut and decided to write some really original shit instead of riding the same formula.
I find it kind of ironic though that I’ve Been Sober sounds exactly like Daath, who sounded a lot like DevilDriver with their old singer. If I didn’t know it was DevilDriver when I heard the chorus I would have definitely thought it was a Daath song.
Either way I commend the entire band for stepping up and improving every aspect of their music. More solos, more hooks, more drums, more bass, and Dez shows us it doesn’t take a crooner to hold a note.
anyone figure out how to get around the “We’re sorry, this page is only accessible for residents from Germany, Austria and Switzerland”?
I listened to it. It’s not horrible, but not really my thing.
Like it, but I wish I loved it. Hugh DD fan. This one seems commercial. Sort of like Rob Zombie was Dez’s influence on this one.
Not a bad album at all……
Nothing new here for the metal scene except the fact that DD have concentrated more on Grove this time around….
The album kicks of with the Title track which i must say is a catchy track with hooks et all…..Nice song that stays in your head for a long time……good sign for the band
Pure Sincerity is reminiscent of Good Old Pantera….with a the usual Double-Bass kicks.
Fatestepped in is also an ok song………….3 solid songs to start the album……
Then comes the Wah-Wah intro assault of “Back with a vengeance” that is easily the best song on the album……DD really nail Pantera Style Groove-Metal with this track and shades of Speed-Metal here……This might just be their circle pit friendly “Redneck”..
Vocals kinda Machinehead’ish…….thats not bad either!
Ok’ish songs towards the end…..nonetheless…..an above average effort from DD…..give ‘em 7/10
had this album for a week or two now and its fucking amazing compared to the shit thats been coming out recently.
its basically old devildriver with more atmosphere and groove. the guitarists have done a much better job than the last times, but dez on vocals doesnt make as many catchy hooks
id give it a good 8/10
I’ve been listening to this album for weeks and DD might just be my new favorite band – I like every track they’ve put out so far to a good enough extent That’s just me. God Forbid was my favorite for years…
So… 10/10
Sobriety suits you so well….
Man, I wish this band would go away.
i was pretty surprised at this album, it is actually pretty decent
Hearing this whole record, made me truly disappointed I’m going to miss the Thrash and Burn tour! DevilDriver have done it again!
Fucking awesome album! Devil Driver are the shit! They just get better and better, and they fucking slay live. They definately should’ve featured in the “21 Best…” list.
