LET THE DEBATE RAGE ON: ALICE IN CHAINS RELEASE VIDEO FOR “A LOOKING IN VIEW”

This video harkens back to the days of weird, enigmatic, “creepy” alt-metal videos, but guess what? I still dig it.

Alice in Chains’ big comeback album, Black Gives Way to Blue, comes out September 29 on Virgin.

Awesome song, awesome video, awesome band…

  • RyanK

I don’t really get the title. Seems like since the song came out most people have said it’s either great, good, surprisingly good, or overly mediocre. I’ve probably seen less debating on Alice in Chains posts than on most of the other Metalsucks posts as of lately.

Personally, I love the song…and this is a decent video though it’d be cool to actually have some band shots in there.

    • RyanK

I meant I don’t get the title of the article not the title of the song….obviously….for the record.

      • bucketochicken

It confused me at first too, but it helps if you put a hyphen between “Looking” and ‘In.” I.e.: “A Looking-In View.” You know, like self-reflection. Um, right?

  • bucketochicken

God I cannot wait. Well, I mean, I can, since I have no choice and stuff, but man… god I love AIC so much.

And that’ll be a kick-ass birthday present (albeit a couple days early).

  • bearbomb

That was pretty bad ass. I find video’s that DON’T showcase the band are 9 times out of 10 better than those that do.

  • trailofsmoke

The song is about 2 minutes too long but I still really like it. The video is cool…nothing ground-breaking there though. I look forward to the album.

  • BlakMetalistKrieg

    Hooray for nudiness!

  • Rida

I’ve never been a huge fan of the band, but I was surprised at how much I liked the song.

  • Simon

Awesome song. Good video. Too bad noone’s gonna play it on tv. So-so new singer, but I’m basing this opinion only on the few moments he appears here. Btw I’d never suspect AIC to go this, heavier, way. That’s really cool. Can’t wait for the whole album!

  • taog36

the video was cool, but the song was long and boring

I knew Vince was fucking Juggalo!

  • JF

I’ll give AIC their due (even though I’ve never been a huge fan) as the song is long and un-radio friendly. They could have played it safe and came up with something far more commercial, but didn’t. Hard to believe it’s the same band I saw nearly 20 years ago (yikes!) opening for Van Halen.

    • Kevin

I did read that the band was releasing another song, probably the radio-friendly one next month. This song just seems to be a teaser for the new album, which is crazy because normally you don’t see videos being released for teases.

Although I can see this song being played on Active Rock a bit.

  • Jewers

there would be a man in a box…lol

favorite grunge era band, by a mile, good tune

  • Charlie B

What a boring song. This song again reminds me why I always disliked AIC. Seriously this band needs to go away for good.

    • Johnny

thats right, just because you dislike a band it needs to go away for good. the world needs to take notice.

  • godmoney

We’ve all heard the song before, so I want to talk about the video. What needed to be said about the music was last week, so you people can go away.

It’s rare to see a metal video get such high production value. And the story is equally as good. The moral being everyone is mentally screwed up somehow, and what matters is how you deal with it that. One of the 10 commandments for being a metalhead. I really liked the beginning with the cog-filled “device” being built as some bomb metaphor. From start to finish an excellent and visually stunning video.

I’m definitely looking forward to the new album. Now if only I could get this video in HD…

  • Mancubus

Tits or GTFO now applies to all music videos.

Oh, and AIC wisely chose from the AC/DC playbook and picked somebody who sounds exactly like Staley. Good choice.

  • Dustin at Metal Blade

Boobies!!! This song is actually pretty heavy. Heavy yet melodic, just as AIC should be. Pretty impossible to try to duplicate the vocal harmonies of Staley and Cantrell though. Too fucking good

My thoughts: Metal Injection’s video encoding leaves so many fucking high frequency fragments that I can’t make it past thirty seconds of any of their videos.

  • Bill

I couldn’t be more pleased that AiC still sounds like AiC. Of all the bands that were lost in the past 20 years, Alice was the one that hurt me the most. Nobody can ever replace Layne Staley, but William DuVall does one hell of a job filling in. It’s also good to see Jerry Cantrell can still make music that matters, his solo projects never did much for me. I can only wonder if the next AiC album will be an acoustic one like Jar of Flies (my favorite AiC album) or Sap.
Now, if we can get Soundgarden back together…………

  • Sammy

Why isn’t the band playing in an abandoned warehouse or on some desolate desertscape?

  • kev

This song is amazing and dark, it carries all the charecteristics from classic AIC. Duvall fits in perfectly, but does not come off like an Layne inpersonator. Which I was worried about before I heard the new song.

This video really reminds of the outstanding videos coming out from rock bands during the grunge era heyday when MTV was something you enjoyed watching. This type of story has been tried in other videos , it’s original but it delivers on a played out idea in a new way.

My radio station proudly added this song to active rotation the day it was available.

The nudity was not fun nudity. This was not boob for the sake of boobs, it was more boobs for the sake of saddness.

I got chills when the tub dropped throgh the glass. If you give me chills, you win my praise.
