I appreciate the criticism, but the top 100 list we’re doing is totally being helmed by another blogger. I invited him to post his opinions on Spine Language because every now and then I don’t have an excess of time to blog, and it also wouldn’t hurt to have somebody else’s perspective on things. I don’t agree with a lot of his inclusions but that’s not the point. I started Spine Language with the intent to not be a Nazi about quality control or consistency, so I’ll stay that way.

But seriously, thanks anyway! More free band downloads are coming; this time, a compilation of exclusive tracks from one-man metal bands. Got several people signed on already. Any suggestions besides Bulb, Chimp Spanner, Mark Hawkins, and the like?

Spinelanguage sometimes I think you’re right on with your criticisms and sometimes I don’t understand at all. Your current top 100 list is by far the most baffling thing I have seen you put out yet. I’ll see Sunn O))) and think, hey dead on, and then Chimaira will beat it higher in the list and I just can’t figure it out. Oh well, at least your collection of free band downloads is pretty solid all the way through.

when I first picked this album up the day it came out I didn’t like it as much as prowler, but it is better, it takes some time, it asks something from you, it asks for participation from the listener, it isn’t in one ear and out the other. it’s easily their best record. Phantom limb I thought was disappointing, still awesome, but comparatively a weak amount of depth. they started floating a little towards the other bands that are trying to be deep and meaningful but are still just on the surface. it’s better than the copy cats, but not as good as Terrifier.

their best album indeed. i only had a passing fascination with their music until there was a day where everything just seemed to be going real shitty, turned on my mp3 player with the tracks on random, and pig destroyer was on. played the entire album after that and thus avoided being a dick to others on that day.

awesome cover art too. love the terrifyer shirt.

I think I prefer “Phantom Limb” and “Prowler in the Yard” over this one too, but…whatever. This record kicks much ass. Wish these fuckers would tour, goddammit!

Agreed. Personally, I prefer Paradise Lost, because the production quality is just SO much better than on The Odyssey. I’m very surprised at the lack of love given to Symphony X.
