HOLY SHIT, DIDJA KNOW GOJIRA & LOG ARE TOURING WITH METALLICA?! DIDJA?! DIDJA?!?!

Monday, July 13th, 2009 at 4:00pm by Axl Rosenberg

randygojiraWe may have gotten more e-mails about the announcement that Lamb of God and Gojira will be providing support for Metallica on their upcoming tour than, like, any other topics ever all combined. Apparently you guys and girls are excited about this news.

And I understand… in theory. I’ll be happy if Gojira and LOG are exposed to a wider audience, but beyond that, I still don’t especially care (I can’t speak for Vince or any other MetalSucks Mansion inhabitant, of course).

Here’s why this news doesn’t do much for me:

  • It doesn’t say anything about Metallica, who just take the trendiest available metal band of the moment out on the road with them. Trust me, if bands that sounded like Korn were still the hot thing, Metallica would be taking a band that sounds like Korn out with them.
  • Tickets are still going to cost a small fortune. There have been ample opportunities over the past few years to see both LOG and Gojira in a much more intimate live setting for much less money, and unless Wrath and The Way of All Flesh both go quadruple platinum sometime real soon, there will continue to be ample opportunities to see both LOG and Gojira in a much more intimate live setting for much less money.
  • Metallica are still going to sound ridiculous.

So, there you have it. I’m glad you’re all so very excited about whom ‘Tallica are taking out on the road. But I can’t say I share in your enthusiasm.

    You know what this means…..
    ADORATION FOR NONE LIVE!!!!!!!!!11111111oneone \m/

  2. Anthony says:

I already had my ticket for the show in Toronto before the support acts were announced, so this makes me even more excited.

Although Gojira isn’t playing from the first Toronto show onwards. Volbeat is. Gay.

    • Anthony says:

Oh, and I can totally see where you’re coming from when talking about why they’re taking Lamb of God, but Gojira and Volbeat are HARDLY trendy right now, especially in North America.

  3. Ender^Wiggin says:

    Gojira are trendy?

  4. mikeyboy says:

In theory great but in my experience Metallica support bands always get a rough deal. When I saw Machine Head support them last time they played London they got shitty sound and only half the crowd bothered to turn up in time.

I was really looking forward to seeing them but it was a real let down. As for The Sword who went on first, they needn’t have bothered.

    • Dr. J says:

Thats probably just because a good half of the people who show up for a Metallica concert go there to see Enter Sandman and One and couldn’t give a shit about any music that has never seen radio play.

  5. Canvas Of Flesh says:

Wow. That’s a lot of shitty bands.

    • Ziltoid says:

At least it’s not Psyopus–easily the worst live experience of my life. But those three still are shitty.

      • King Cheezit says:

        Mine was The Chariot…failcore

        • phale says:

i saw the chariot open for gojira, actually. their awesome drummer should do something more worthwhile than providing a backbone for a crew of bass-helicoptering cockasoids.

      • Noel says:

wow…i actually agree with ziltoid. pycrotowhatever fuckin suck. they take what meshuggah perfected and copy the shit out of it and call it original…

  6. Garske says:

I sure did, can’t wait for October!

  7. Shinaain says:

All valid points, Axl, and I mostly agree with you. I would, however, encourage you to consider that which is most important, which is THIS: *Hopefully this means Gojira will soon be able to afford to tour here as headliners more often, which means longer shows for those of us who adore them. Furthermore, they mentioned in an announcement on their MySpace page that they would be headlining select shows in between their support dates for Metallica.* (Still standing by to find out when/where.)

And if I may remind you, my dear friend: http://www.metalsucks.net/2008/10/23/i/

    Vince, talk to him.

  8. Sammy says:

Big name metal bands have been taking “trendy” new acts on the road forever, Axl. I remember when Metallica was the “trendy new metal band” when Ozzy took them on tour during the Puppets tour. And come to think of it, Metallica made Ozzy sound ridiculous.

  9. Elpants says:

Well, I know Metallica are supposed to be playing in Boise this December. But tickets are all but sold-out according to various sources.

    Oh well.

  10. SonOF says:

All this means is that Gojira are going to get a whopping 20 minute set, and will not sound all that great because they will be playing in venues that are far too big for them, in front of small crowds, most of which will unfortunately be pre-gaming in the parking lot.

LOG will upstage those old codgers in Metallica, just as they did on the tours they did in support of Slayer. LOG really shouldn’t be opening for anyone at this point, they are so big themselves.

  11. EarthIsGay says:

Holy shit I’m beyond stoked. I bought a ticket back when I didn’t know who the openers were and now 2 of my very favorite bands are opening…this is going to rule.

  12. TheHardG says:

Hell Yeah I Knew That!! I bought my tickets this past April before I knew who the openers were. LOG and Gojira just add to an already awesome concert. The tickets are really great and they didnt cost a small fortune either.

  13. myke says:

i’m going to the 2 garden shows i’m nerd yah know. but metallica live is insane. but volbeat is playing those 2 shows and i am not a fan. i really wish gojira was playing. lamb of god gojira and metallica thats a killer show. good for them for doing this tour!

  14. Nao says:

This is going to be my first concert :D

..to bad I don’t like LOG

  15. Lol, I was one of those emails…and actually got a reply back. But yea, I’m stoked for this show. It’s gonna a good, ear splittingly loud night at the Philips Arena for me

  16. joshkid says:

Hell Yeah!!! Metallica, LOG & Gojira, that’s gonna be fuckin’ insane man!!!!!

  17. Anus Apache says:

Got frontrow Tix to the Charlottesville show.
    It was worth the money.
Stop bitching about metallica sounding “ridiculous” on this site just because it is the trendy thing to do.

  18. Boogman says:

Last Thirsday I saw Mastodon, Lamb Of God, Machine Head, Slipknot all open up for Metallica who started playin at Midnight in Portugal at the Optimus Alive festival in front of about 60 000 people, and I was really surprised with Tallica and how they played and especially their setlist full of oldies, It was one of the better festival lineups in ages, I had about 4 litres of beer coupled by about 7 joints…kinda lost track of time at around 2 in the morning when Tallica finished up one of the best festivals ever….!!!!

  19. snagon says:

most of the toolbag rich kids who get up close dont even show up until Metallica takes the stage. so the true kids will find Gojira and LoG. When i saw them in Newark NJ it was half full for Machine head and nearly empty for the Sword. I hope these guys get some fanfare especially Gojira.

  20. Johnny says:

Metallica should be opening for Gojira/LOG…then they could learn how to be a great band once again

  21. superapearmy says:

This is for the Death Magnetic Tour, correct?
When I got my tickets in April it said the openers were The Sword, Down and LOG.
So now Gojira will be in there too?
    Sweet.

  22. rob says:

im hoping for a log headline off date with gojira and a gojira headline show on their own. somewhere in new england, cause we arnt getting a metallica show :(

  23. Gary S. says:

TRENDY is the only word you people know.

  24. niggaplease says:

LOL @ thinking these bands aren’t already fucking mainstream.

  25. The Greys says:

You really need to change the name of the site to “Metallicasucks,” because you can’t seem to let a day go by without bitching about how much you dislike them.

My guess is it really burns you to know the guys in Metallica don’t give a damn about what you think. They’re not crying or losing sleep over your blog, guy.

Here’s an idea: Since you’ve voiced your distaste for Metallica about 1 billion times now, why don’t you give it a rest? You don’t like them. We understand. Move on, now.

  26. So…will Gojira bring out Lamb of God for a live rendition of “All the Tears”?
