Still, singing anything by Layne is a tall task. His voice is immediately discernible and unique. I give Phil respect for trying and doing what he does. Nutshell is a song I'd like to cover myself at a small place like that. Props, even if it wasn't that great. The little lead parts he did in there ruined it though. It kind of reminded me of the "I Believe..." thing from Blue Collar Comedy Tour. What I am saying is when they came back out with Phil they turned on an entire generation of kids to extreme metal without compromising. On their shoulders rest major accomplishment. In this video it's evident Phil knows he ain't got it buttoned up, he was doing for the love of it. and in my opinion it's awesome to see a musician step out of their comfort zone and dare to fail. Their sound was original, their attitude undisputed and their impact undeniable. Give Phil a break he's paid his dues and besides it's not about taking someone elses song and making it better. It's about taking someone elses song and sharing it intimately with a small audience. Conveying a feeling. Look I know I’ll be burned for this but I don’t care.
