Couldn’t agree more man, I am all for the progression of bands, but i couldn’t even listen to their last record…whereas i was pulling for December and Tear to make the 21 greatest list…

nobody said nothing about Versions…I Iliked their earlier albums, but Versions is still a good album, a lot of websites choose it as one of the best albums of 07…….they dont need to sound heavy as hell to make excellent music

I remember on the cover of “Versions” there was a comment that noted “One of the most respected bands in music….” I fucking love this band like I love oral.

Totally agree with you. Poison The Well are one of those bands that truly have their own sound and style and have managed to stick to that for a decade, at the same time progressing musically through the years. They’ll stay as one of my favourite bands ever.
Underoath and Alexisonfire have nothing on PTW.

Massively influential band.

I was wondering if anyone here even liked this band, I meant to ask but assumed I’d be met by nothing but hateraders, good to see some lovin’.

I keep waiting for the next band like this to come along and rearrange the face of heavy music.

thats because they aren’t screamo, and they are one of the most respected bands in hardcore. The Opposite of December and Tear From The Red are great albums, but its the albums after those that really define this band. You Come Before You is flat out amazing and now The Tropic Rot comes out and destroys Versions which is saying a lot speaking I really enjoyed that record as well.

Honestly, I can’t really think of another single band that sounds like the modern era Poison the Well. These guys are nothing at all like underoath or alexisonfire though. Thats just a disgrace to even say that.

Their first two albums could be 2 of the most influnential hardcore albums of all time. Honestly Alexisonfire wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for those albums.

I always thought You Come Before You and onwards are what makes this band special to me personally. Musically they’ve just broken the mould for what a hardcore band can do and Opposite of December and Tears from the Red just seem kind of amateur to my eyes. Perhaps i’ll revisit those early records soon enough and see what the fuss is about.

New record not all that bad. If you have never heard them, worth checking out. And for metalguy, Opposite of December is classic, just brilliant. Even a huge metal head like me digs what this band does.

If I could have asked one question it would have been, “Could you agree that when Derek Miller left the band, anything and everything that was remotely good/hard about your band vanished as well?”

Everytime PTW releases a new record a little piece of me dies inside.

They could fall into the late 90s definition of what “screamo,” was. Definitely worth checking out though.
