Dethklok fans – here’s a fun lil’ press release we just received at the Mansion:

“Konami announced today that a video game based on the hit Adult Swim series Metalocalypse is currently in development for Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®Network. Created by series co-creator Brendon Small and based on the top-rated Adult Swim animated series, the upcoming Metalocalypse: Dethgame will immerse players into the world of Dethklok, the world’s most brutal Norwegian heavy metal band.”

Metalocalypse: Dethgame, which will be downloadable (e.g., not sold in stores), will allow gamers to play as a Klokateer, one of Dethklok’s roadies, and will be charged with the task of protecting the band and their own mega-mansion, Mordhaus, from “rabid mutant fans.” There will also be mini-games. And, of course, it will all be set to the music of Dethklok.

Part me of hopes that members of the band themselves will be unlockable or something… but part of me also thinks that the ability to control Nathan Explosion, Skwisgaar Skwigelf, Toki Wartooth, Pickles and Murderface is just too much power for one person to weild.

Bottom line: tie-in video games suck nine out of ten times. But I’m encouraged by the fact that the brilliant Brendon Small is involved, and that nothing Dethklok-related has ever sucked to date. So, yeah, I’m stoked to see how this thing comes out.

The game is expected to be released in the fall, I assume to tie-in with the return of Metalocalypse, which is apparently coming back in November. In the meantime, you can get your Dethklok fix from The Dethalbum II, which Williams Street Records will release on September 8.
