TORCHE WIN, THE REST OF YOU LOSE

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 at 5:00pm by

Even without guitarist Juan Montoya, Torche still kick ridiculous amounts of ass. Here’s the brand new video for the song “Healer” from their year-end-list-dominating 2008 release Meanderthal; all 2 minutes and 7 seconds of this song are furious, desert rock reminders of why you should obtain this excellent record by any means necessary if you haven’t done so already. That Torche are still promoting and touring the record well over a year after its release is a testament to how fucking solid it is. Catch them on tour now through August 5th in Canada and the U.S.

Great band! Meanderthal was the soundtrack to this past winter for me. Saw them tear it up in Minny a few months back, they bring a ton of energy to their set. My only complaint is that some of their songs are too short. In Return is also a great record, though much slower and sludgier.

Honestly, I don’t know how to pronounce their name. Is it just Torch, with a silent e, or is it like Porsche, or what?

    • jason

      silent e

        ohhhhh. Thankee kindly, sir.

  • ceth

    Great album!

  • schokakola

this band > you. can’t wait for new material.

  • Canvas Of Flesh

Meh. Sounded like generic hard rock to me.

    • gnarlk

      keep cranking those nile albums…

      • big_red01027

        Will do. Torche blows..

  • scramblor

This band blew me away when I first saw them open a year ago. I saw them again a few months back (opening for dredg… an intersting bill) and they just aren’t the same without a second guitarist. And newsflash, this song was recorded when Juan was still in the band.

yeah I saw them on that tour as well. Had never heard of them but they were awesome, heavy as shit without trying to be.

Just saw these fuckers last week in Nashville, I’ve never seen anyone rock so hard.

Granted, this is the first I have heard of this band, but… I don’t get it.

    • stu1

What don’t you get about solid heavy rock?

  • Tim

Fuck this shitty band. I saw them open for Harvey Milk this past Saturday in Chicago. I’d really like to know why people listened to Torche and left when Harvey Milk came on. Torche was shitty when they were called Floor and are even worse now. If you’ve never seen anyone rock so hard, I can only assume they are the only live band you’ve ever seen.

    • bearbomb

Maybe it’s because Harvey Milk sucks? I thought they should’ve headlined the Dredg show…

      • Lee

Maybe why people listen to Torche is they like them.. Just a guess. I agree with bear.

I love Torche. The only shit thing about them is that they’re taking so long to record new music.

    • stu1

They’ve already recorded and released something since the full length, haven’t they?

  • FaceThrasher

Solid album, but the video isn’t suiting and does it no justice. For some reason the style and production of the video seems like it would fit on MTV. It’s weird even saying that….

Yeah, judging by the music too it seems to fit on MTV…

  • West Virginia

Juan Montoya is a good race car driver

  • TurdFerguson

That Zooey Deschanel song in that cotton ad before the video was brutal.

  • http://www.formulafiction.com Dr Tizzle

    best song of the album!

  • moose_knuckle

Saw these guys at atp nightmare before christmas with the melvins and fantomas, they were very good live. I think that was the last show they played with the second guitarist.

Just saw torche (pronounced silent E by the band) tonight in toronto. they need more layers, i.e. juan, but are still heavy. they are too smiley and goofy to take seriously though. they aren’t really angry, which sucks.

funnily, we noticed sooo many beards, as per your ‘are beards metal?’ post. your answer in this context: bushy beards are sludgy post-hardcore, not real metal, rather hipster digestible – acceptable in my books, when the band is decent, i.e. children, early man, sword.
