I love Slayer, mainly all thrash metal, extremely fast, ridiculous death metal and whatnot, when I first stumbled upon Drone Metal, it was a video of this band playing live, and at first I was unimpressed, but, as music is all in the ear of the listener it grew on me, and although I havent listened to them since that video, I think if I were to get one of their albums it’d be the only metal I could listen to in the background while reading or something that wont distract me, like “holy shit that was the most insane fucking riff I’ve ever heard!” kinda distracting stuff.

Also, I want their cloaks/cowls.

After all the hype, I finally decided to check one of these guys’ full length out and guess what I found…”Monoliths & Dimensions” fucking sucks…not! It kicks ass! Ok it doesn’t really “kick ass”, rather, it’s eerie, cinematic and sometimes beautiful music…the way the acoustic instruments are arranged went beyond my wildest expectations, it’s just so fucking classy and they complement the BWOOOM so, so beautifully (hell, there aren’t even that many BWOOOOOM-y moments here…they actually play riffs and melodies this time around!). I can see this shit getting really boring pretty fast, but the orchestration, choirs, etc. really add a whole new dimension (pun unintended)! ‘Alice’ has got to be one of the prettiest songs EVAR! I’ll just call this shit ‘dark ambient’ to keep Ziltoid from popping a hemorroid. I don’t know about their previous stuff, but I’m definitely a fan of “Monoliths & Dimensions”.

By the way, it’s Miley Cyrus, not Milie. If your gonna trash the greatest manufactured music ‘performer’ of this generation, at least get her name right. At least then you’ll be able to efficiently search for nude pics of her when she turns 18 and has her inevitable slut break down.

I agree. I’ve heard many wonderful things about Sunn O))) over the years and when I finally gave them a listen I was confounded. They actually expect people to buy an album where they just sustain one single distorted fucking note throughout the entire hour!? I just don’t see the art or value in it. It seems like it’s just a waste of time to me.

I think the experimentation totally paid off. The record almost feels at times like modern 20th century composition (though I doubt classical fans would even bother to sniff at this record). Damn…I can’t believe that’s not Dylan Carlson on Alice.

After listening to Monoliths and Dimensions, I can appreciate that they’re attempting to move forward. They still haven’t moved to a place that’s an intriguing listen for my specifically, but at least they’re trying. I guess.

Monoliths and Dimensions was the most pretentious, boring album I’ve ever heard. I don’t like Sunn O))) already, but this was awful. Hell, that band I mentioned in one of the top 21 topics awhile back, \\\Maytag, is actually funnier now that this boring album is out.
