I’m not really that familiar with Orphaned Land… but this video certainly makes me wanna do some homework.

Orphaned Land are in the studio right now with producer Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree fame; expect their new album around October or November on Century.

Orphaned Land’s Mabool album is one of the favorites in my collection. It would be great if you could review it.

I wasn’t, either, until I saw “Global Metal.” That turned me on to them and I’m pleased with what I’ve heard so far.

Does this band typically play at weddings (or whatever formal event that was)? Weird

i got their album mabool when it was released. i liked it alot, but after about 2 weeks to a month, it found its way out of my playlist. it seems i grew tired of it (as with amon amarth’s stuff, and also viking/pagan metal) but it’s still worth a listen every now and then. initial listen is a 4.5 out of 5, but now i’ll rate it at a 3.5 – 3.75 out of 5.

Ah..Dont know if you know this or not,But egyptians are way into metal. They really know their shit.So the groom was of course a metalhead. And probably wanted to play a metal song at his wedding because most egyptian or arab weddings in general are very traditional,So whats more fitting then an oriental metal band with arabic instruments?Nothing really.

Want to listen to more egyptian metal bands?

Except Orphaned Land are from Israel.

      • Noname

No shit their from israel?no way i had no idea, thanks for clearing that up.Of course i know their from israel dude.I live in a country right beside it.But im saying the main reason they probably played this in the wedding is because of the arabian instruments in which orphaned land plays their music with,Such as the tabla and the 3ood (sorry i dont know it in english) also their influences of the arab culture such as in the track in this video (ocean land) in the end was the arab call to prayer. All im saying is,i know why they would have choosen this band instead of maybe Bloodbath or Necrophagist. To not scare the other locals who may not understand this type of music. And in the end israel or arabs were all from the same soil and the cutlures have alot of similarities weather people would like to admit that or not.

Mabool is my favourite album of 2004, excellent musicians, I especially love all those foreign influences!

I’m planning a top 100 of the decade for the end of the year. Only hint that I’m giving out is that Orphaned Land’s Mabool is #3. Oh, and look for their new album this autumn.

  • bearwizard

    great band

  • Ziltoid

Mabool is a good album, but the gimmick wears off REALLY quickly. By second listen, I was already bored with it, but they still have potential.

  • groverXIII

Orphaned Land are good, although for Middle-Eastern flavored metal, I prefer Arkan’s ‘Hilal’.

Interesting video! Their debut album, “Sahara,” is one of the best metal albums I own. I own thousands of metal albums and this band stands out!

i’ve been there and met them (metal head ones) and they’re many
they have concerts and styles, but they have a major problem in dealing with the government.
they may got caught for listening to Metal or dressing metal.
god bless them , they are awsome ppl
