AUGUST BURNS RED LIKE TO MEDDLE

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 4:00pm by Axl Rosenberg

I’m not like a huge August Burns Red fan or anything, but I know that a lot of you are, and their new video, “Meddler,” has some imagery that I find purty. What can I say? I’m a sucker for magic hour.

Check out the video, then weigh in with your thoughts below.

  1. Kind of a cool video. Disappointed with the new CD. I liked their first CD, thought the 2nd would be better, it wasnt, thought they might change at least a bit with the new CD, they didnt. So May as well listen to the first one

I don’t agree. Though their core sound remains intact, there is progression and bits of nuance that they have incorporated into their song writing. Constellations slays!

      • poopsmcgee says:

i agree. if anything, i thought that constellations was less “core” than their last, and more “metal”.

        • Besides the lead guitar being more intricate, I think overall there sound has remained the same and for the most part the songs on all 3 are interchangeable.

Thought White Washed was the coolest song off the new one though.

          • Really? says:

Even though the three albums may be interchangable, someone that cares to listen for it can tell differences between them.

  2. Ballhair says:

Listened to Constellations today, killer record.

  3. Hot Carl says:

I like all of their albums. They sound pretty much the same but its still a solid hour and a half listen (3 albums). I’m a fan of how little this band has any image. Straight up, its just regular dudes shredding. I dig that.

  4. alex says:

    God awful.

  5. Phenomenal musicians…been listening to the new CD since it came out, and it shows what potential they have for the future too

  6. Me says:

just got the new album cause I haven’t really checked them out much before. Pretty cool stuff. Nothing earth-shattering, but given that they have a very typical metalcore sound, I think they are pretty good.

  7. Hairygimp says:

    This is just killswitch engage

  8. fightingmike says:

I am not a huge fan of these guys, but i do respect that they have always had a message, dont seem to give a crap about all of the scene posturing, tough guy shit, and they have always had good music videos that have some kind of point/theme to them. Their music just sounds to me like Unearth with less breakdowns, but i like them ALOT better than most of the current metalcore scene bands!

  9. johnnywhoopass says:

I fuckin Love that song man, good progression from the last record didn’t expect such a good record from these guys but im loving it, cant complain spending 12 bucks for this one im impressed,

  10. I enjoyed that song. Cool video, too.

  11. Politude says:

Very well directed video, Constellations is a step up from Messengers musically, and the lyrical content has been beefed up quite a bit. Absolutely love Constellations and Marianna’s Trench should be pushed as the next single. Only a matter of time until these guys show up in Calgary…

    • Rob says:

I would like too see Crusades or White Washed as the next single. Love that breakdown in crusade 1 min in xD

  12. Keith Brown says:

These guys like playing in fields

  13. These guys are from my hometown and its nice to see them get recognition. I also enjoy the new album quite a bit as well

  14. Tommy Lindbergsen says:

Well, I got through ten seconds of this video before realizing that this is another shitty core band.

  15. Pete says:

I’m really liking Constellations so far. I think the songs are more cohesive, rather than a hundred riffs thrown together. On their previous albums, I thought that certain parts of every song were better than the songs themselves, if that makes any sense.

I’m also glad the drummer realized that he has more cymbals than just a china.

  16. james says:

August Burns Red is the metal band that Killswitch Engage and every other KSE rip-off wishes it could be.

Adam D should give up on that sinking ship and just stick to his killer producing skills.

  17. DecrystallizingReason says:

Everything that this band has ever done, KsE and Unearth did first. Not that their music is bad, just completely unoriginal.

    • The Great Johnson says:

I don’t agree at all with that statement at all. Yes, they draw from guys like KSE and Unearth, but their musical core doesn’t even come CLOSE to resembling those bands. What I really like about these guys is they have a very clean sound (I love the tone of their guitars in constellations; it’s like an ear orgasm, it’s fantastic!) and that their image is low-key. Another thing: When they break down, they BREAK DOWN; their drums are off the wall, and they let that bass in their guitars rumble. These guys also give your ear EXACTLY what you wanna hear, and that’s why they’re so appealing. KSE’s talent resides mostly in their singer, and Unearth in its deep, dirty guitar riffs. Honestly, I can’t think of another band that creates stuff that doesn’t get boring after even 4 or 5 listen-throughs; I dunno what it is, but each song is like a trip. The stuff is something you could hear in a “metal musical” if there was such a thing, because it covers so many emotions in one song.

And plus, their drummer’s off the fucking chain man! It’s hard to find another drummer as good as that guy. His sound resides in the china and splash, and most drummers don’t utilize that enough.

  18. Aaron says:

I love the imagery in this video as well.
    And all the collared shirts.
