SUICIDE SILENCE ARE ALWAYS A HOT TOPIC

Friday, July 31st, 2009 at 1:30pm by Axl Rosenberg

Shockhound.com, which is owned by Hot Topic, captured the below footage of Suicide Silence doing a recent four song in-store show. And while I’m fully aware that Hot Topic is no one’s favorite clothing store, the footage is killer, and the band sounds pretty sweet. Enjoy…

    I fucking hate this band

  2. Politude says:

I am alright with Suicide Silence, that puts me in a very small group but, I mean the new album was much more developed than The Cleansing. I don’t like the entire album by any means, but it does have some catchy grooves. I guess I’m not an elitist.

On that note, that is a LAME crowd.

  3. loganarchy says:

Congrats, this is your 2nd post today taken from Metal Injection.

  4. Aaron R A says:

I’m apparently in the minority, but I fucking LOVE their new album.

  5. Dave says:

This is the worst band. Literally the worst.

  6. Ryd1ZZ says:

They sound good. Too bad it seems like the crowd sucked ass.

  7. Charlie B says:

They are the typical hot topic crap band.

  8. tom says:

i really don’t have a problem with the band, but what the fuck is wrong with their frontman? seriously he looks like he trying to fly or some shit….

    • John says:

      owlcore…?

    • canea says:

he’s attempting to dry out his armpits.

      • 36Thoughtless says:

        Man, I just died laughing…Owlcore…aw man, that’s fuckin great…

Seriously, what’s with the crowd and the lead. He keeps shouting for people to “throw their hands in the fuckin air” like a fuckin moron.

The decibel review of their new album is pretty funny as well.

        • John says:

Oh man, you know what would be great? If they would do a live cover of that “Bird Rock” song or whatever, you know the one that goes “Bird bird Bird is a Bird” with this goofy rock n roll/surf rock riff to back it up ( its from the 80’s I think) and make the vocal guy do his owl move… oh man, that would be hilarious.

        • Me says:

My bad, it’s called Surfin’ Bird

    • Sylvester says:

LOL, I was thinking the same shit!
Looks like he was attempting to take flight, was waiting for feathers to sprout.

They really should do a cover of “Freebird”.

  9. Canvas Of Flesh says:

    What a shitty band.

  10. thedynasty says:

“Oh look at me! I hate every band ever!! Any band who writes a breakdown is automatically bad! Nothing ever impresses me and I am a very unhappy person!!”

  11. thebenthic says:

the other guitar player wearing a funeral pyre shirt…………………

  12. GamlaSonn says:

    That was horrible.

  13. The Roan says:

the only real problem i had with that was how god awfull those attempts at “solo’s” were. laughable.

  14. SolaceInNothing says:

It is really inspiring to see a band be able to keep up such an intense stage presence and play so spot on to the album. I mean anyone who has listened to the albums can hear that they hit the mark from the guitar solos to the symbol strikes.

This music might not be the most techincal to pull off, but it is still not simple and due to the impeccable audio setup one would absolutely be able to hear if they made mistakes, and they don’t.

It is especially impressive considering they are playing on such a small no-frills stage. No light-show, no explosions, no costumes. It’s just the band doing what they do best, and that’s just awesome.

  15. Ziltoid says:

Why does this site seem to only post about the same circle of shitty bands? Suicide Silence is one of the worst musical monstrosities ever created.

  16. Cade says:

Atleast their better than cradle of filth

  17. Brutal Jay says:

I love the crowd. They’re just like “I came in here to buy an All Time Low shirt… What the fuck is this?”

  18. Colin says:

Ok so I don’t really like this band, but they are way better live than they used to be. Really good footage.

And BTW it’s cool to hate Hot Topic, but Shockhound rocks.

  19. Justin says:

lol he cant growl at all like on the albums

  20. Cooter says:

Any band that gives instructions on when and how to “headbang” doesn’t need instructions on when and how to be shitty. They’ve already got it covered.

  21. ImNorthPole says:

” I HAVE A BETTER SHIRT THAN YOU, ” wispered the heavily bearded guitarist.

  22. Dave says:

39 seconds in, cue bird move.
Fuck yes, love that move. Dumbest stage move in a long time.

  23. Rancid corpse says:

good stuff but was the lead singer straight edge i guess he was he had forever written on his knuckles then got them blacked out lol anyone know for sure

  24. ceth says:

I have no shame in saying i like this band alot and I am pushing 30 years old(a couple more months) and have been listening to metal for a whole bunch of years. It seems now days for some reason it is just a lot more fashionable and cool to find music to hate on than to find music to like. I am glad i am from a different time in metal than the younger cats that are around these days. It just seems really boring to be a young metal fan these days and be so confined to the different “scenes” and fads and to spend more time finding dumb ass reasons to not like music than to enjoy it.”fuck this band,he said get your hands up. What an asshole. I cant stand bands that say get your hands up” just laughable to say the least.

    • Sylvester says:

I’m in the same boat as you. I’m 31 and I like these guys. I personally don’t get where the deathcore tag comes from. Looks and sounds like a death metal band to me.
I’m sick of trying to keep up with all of these different scenes and bullshit. I just check out the bands that sound good to me and fuck the rest. No need to spend endless hours hating on bands I don’t like, more time to listen to the ones I do like.

      • groverXIII says:

I think the deathcore part comes from the addition of hardcore-style breakdowns… basically filler for bands that can’t hack a decent guitar solo, for the most part.

    • groverXIII says:

I’ll reply to your post… like yourself, I’m pushing 30 (about a month and a half), and like yourself, I’ve listened to metal for quite some time. I don’t hate this band because it’s the fashionable thing to do… I hate them because they’re only marginally talented and make uninspired music. I don’t really listen to much deathcore simply for that reason (although I’ve been rather enjoying the new Arsonists Get All The Girls album and Job For A Cowboy is tolerable). I do hate, however, that they ally with Hot Topic, a company that takes counter-culture and waters it down for the very scene kids you feel sorry for. That is selling out in the highest order.

It is sad that metal is so focused on these scenes and that it’s so divisive… but I hate even more that the good metal bands get little recognition while bands like Suicide Silence are so popular.

A few side notes… the bird maneuver is goddamn hilarious, right up there with crabcore as far as I’m concerned. It also appears that the vocalist doesn’t have socks on, which annoys me. And then there’s the whole tight pants thing, which makes my balls hurt.

    • Kev says:

I don’t know what its all about. Its all metal. Theirs shit in every genre, posers in every genre and crazy talented artists/musicians in every genre. Or sub genre rather. I’m only just turning 18 in a couple months here and its disheartening to know that the future of metal is going to be an ever more segregated one, full of hate, jealousy and malice.
As far as SS goes, not the biggest fan personally, but they’re definitely not the worst band or even close to it, though I am sick of hearing about them. They can play, they can play well if this video is any indication of prowess, and they’re popular, bringing metal to a slightly larger stage(hopefully)

    • SolaceInNothing says:

Im 23, and I can tell you that beyond these blogs it can be annoying when you see these core kids do nothing but “hardcore dance” during a bands breakdowns, but don’t mosh and in fact just stand there with a dopey look on their face if a band does anything different. And on the other side, you have these super metal elitist pricks who will heckle and flip off a band just because they dare put a breakdown in their song . . . fucking annoying!

Only the young, ignorant metalheads confine themselves to fads and scenes. In my opinion staying away from a band because it is considered “trendy” is just as shallow as listening to only music that is trendy. It almost seems like internet top whatever lists has almost ruined things like variety because everyone seems to be trying to out metal people. Like because you listen to Necrophagist as opposed to Suicide Silence that makes you have better taste in music, as if one cauldnt like both for different reasons.

On the bright side though, techncially metal is less segregated then it ever was. If you take into consideration these younger extreme bands like Black Dahlia Murder, JFAC, SS, All Shall Perish, Abigail Williams, etc. they are very difficult to place in a genre because they incorprate so many different influences. They all have influences that can be traced to death, black metal, grind, and yes hardcore. So in a way, fans might be getting more picky but that cauld be just a reaction to the fact that bands are offering so much more.

      • Kev says:

Thats quite eloquently put. Good to see that not everyone on the inter-webs is completely illiterate. Back to the point, I think you put it perfectly. I agree with that completely.
The battling of who’s more metal makes me sick. How about who’s more creative, or more talented. Who gives a flying fuck how heavy, tr00, br00tal, or kvlt you are? No one but you. Its foolish and childish.

And your definitely right. There is more mixing. I think thats where the whole not true bullshit stems from. I think it begets more than animosity though. Originality, open minded-ness, and other such things could potentially come from it. Though I have to say, being in a band in my local scene, its very segregated. The “something”core bands play with others of the same genre while the “tr00″ metal bands play with bands who are also viewed as “tr00″. Though, my band has been cited as both by local kids and bands so what does that tell you.

I honestly think that the fans being more picky is because they can’t pigeonhole a band and it scares them. Theirs no clear cut genre for them to sit in so they make up a new one and shove any band similar into it. That being said there are bands that make music to be called “deathcore” or whatever else. But thats a whole other ball game.

  25. metalguy says:

“Bang your heads like we do” wtf does that mean

    • ceth says:

Pretty obviously stated, not sure where the confusion lies in that staement. he wants them to headbang with them.

  26. lolwut says:

weak crown nice to see weather there playing download or some little store show they have good energy and the fuck mitch doesnt growl like on the album he sounds just as good if not better live

  27. Mika W says:

THIS BAND IS AWESOME all you haters on here cant judge this band cause unlike you guys they sell thousands of records and are touring the fing WORLD and your at home unemployed living off mom and dad hating on everyone doing something with their lives lets see you do it…. im doing it so what now.

  28. bill says:

singers that talk that much during a song are lame as hell

    • ceth says:

I guess you hate Pantera then because Phil Anselmo is one of the most classic shit talking frontmen in the history of metal. The dude does and did practicly deliver speeches between and during songs at times and he is one of the best frontment ever to hit the metal stage,The guy would stop songs sometimes to talk shit. I feel you say this simply because you dont like Suicide Silence. If this was the front man for one of your favorites your opinion would differ. There is such a thing as trying to have stage presence and be animated. I have been to quite a few shows in my almost 30 years on this earth and i gotta say that very few bands can pull off not speaking during a show and have it be entertaining. It’s called trying to work the crowd. Others that talk or did talk alot of shit…Devin Townsend with SYL,Glenn Benton with Deicide, Greg Puciato from everyones loverboys Dillenger Escape Plan has quite a bit to say from stage a lot of the time. Do you hate all of these bands?????

  29. TheHardG says:

Even though I dont like them,Im not going to hate on them like some folks on here do. I wouldnt even go to a free show simply because of the epileptic ninja kicking tardo people in the crowd. What the hell is that shit anyway and where the hell did it come from?

  30. derp says:

this band could be a lot better if they tried
cause they do have some awesome riffs and grooves on their new album
but they need to put a lot more of their effort into writing things other than their breakdowns
but at least their headding in the right direction with their new material
    actually having good guitar work

  31. Brutalizer says:

    BORING!!!!! Its core-core-core.

    • ceth says:

What a tired and boring statement. Aren’t you people getting tired of saying core yet?

      • Brutalizer says:

Suck it gooftits. If you like this band then you are gay.

        • ceth says:

Suck it yourself gooftits. If you like saying core-core-core then YOU are gay as well and much more gay than myself for liking Suicide Silence. LOL, core-core-core,what an asshole!!!!

          • Brutalizer says:

It makes me sad that you are pushin 30 and listening to metalcore. Hhahahahahah. Hopefully core will die soon, its only a matter of time. Go listen to some actual metal and then get back to me.

          • ceth says:

Yeah, I listen to some metalcore if thats what you kids to choose to label it these days. I listen to lots of stuff, I have an open mind to lots of different kinds of metal and all kinds of music. The word core doesnt make me cry like a little bitch everytime i hear it because i am wise enough to know that genre tagging is running rampant these days and I dont let what 14 year olds choose to call something scare me from listening to it.I could be pushing 30 and spinning Barney cd’s in my stereo and it would not be as sad as you sitting around screaming core-core-core like an idiot and telling people that their sexual orientation suddenly went from straight to gay because they enjoy music from Suicide Silence. You can come up with all of the witty Core/Gay comebacks that you can think of for the next 8 days but it still will not change the fact the you are a half assed wanna be metal tough guy that doesnt have a leg to stand on other than the words Core and You Are Gay. How Br00tal mr Brutalizer.I bet you spit nails, shit glass and slap core kids just for waking up out of bed because you are the Brutalizer and you know metal!!! CORE-CORE-CORE. Keep it real homie.Takes all kinds to keep the world turning even people like yourself as useless as you may seem.

          • Brutalizer says:

You spent way too much time on that.

          • ceth says:

didnt spend much time at all, i type pretty quick.

    • Gah says:

I believe we’ve established that already.

  32. ripptuff says:

    powerfully boring.

    i really did give it a chance…

  33. Drew says:

i dont know what the fuck everyone is talking about, Suicide Silence is the shit. LISTEN TO THEIR NEW ALBUM, THEN TALK SHIT!

  34. xPOSERx says:

    I must state..
I did enjoy the ideas behind the lyrics of Unanswered…
    but set apart from that…
since when was “ME74L” about smoking pot and pouring water on your extremely greasy head?
Wake the fuck up, and take a shower.
    Apparently, that skipped there agenda.
    Speaking of birds,
what was that catchy song from the 90s?
I’m like a bird, I wanna fly awayyy.
    Cover~

  35. tim says:

I wonder what the hell he was thinking when he flapped his arms. And repeatedly stated to “put your hands up!”. Fucking annoying performance

    • HagstromSpeed says:

They did the same shit when I seen them at the Music as a Weapon tour, all the 15 year olds were up front getting into it, while most of us stayed in back and talked about bands we were actually excited to see

  36. dickballs says:

So many haters. Brutalize, shut up man.”True metal” is fucking boring. You can’t talk shit on ceth for enjoying metalcore just because you don’t dig it. Well obviously you can but you look like an ass. If the whole metal scene was in your hands it would still be the same boring florida death metal nonsense and there’d be no evolution. I don’t really dig ss but they’re where I’m from and we played a few shows together back in the day. They’re generally good dudes and fuckin aye man they worked harder than any other fucking band from our scene too. That’s why they’re where they are and I’m just defending them on my blackberry while taking a shit. They would take any show it didn’t matter what it was and you gotta respect that. A band that loves to play live and gives it their all no matter where they’re playing. Their shit isn’t the most original music I ever heard, I haven’t even heard the new cd but I’m sure I won’t dig it that shit just doesn’t speak to me but fuck it man. They’re doing more than you ever will you bitter cocksucker.
