EXCLUSIVE BAPTIZED IN BEER TOUR BLOG FROM BISON B.C.’S DAN AND

Dan And Tour Blog

Bison B.C. are currently out on the road as part of the MetalSucks co-sponsored Baptized in Beer tour with  Lazarus A.D. and Woe of Tyrants. Bison B.C.’s Dan And was cool enough to offer to do a special tour blog for us. Check it out below, and get complete Baptized in Beer tour dates here! And if you haven’t done so already, check out Woe of Tyrants’ Chris Catanzaro Baptized in Beer tour blog here.

Wednesday, July 8th – Vancouver, The Biltmore

The last time we played here at the Biltmore, it ended up getting shut down by no fault of ours. The fire marshal showed up, and not was the show over-sold, but something wasn’t properly sorted out about some renovations that had been done. I’m really not sure on the details and despite how it might have looked or been reported on, it wasn’t our fault. I jokingly said in a mini interview that we were going to top ourselves this time and burn it to the ground. Apparently some fuckin’ pecker head taken me seriously and emailed the owners to protest that they would even let us play there after I said that. I’m pretty sure the one owner, Zach, wasn’t upset because when we meet him in Calgary a few days from now he gets us some free grub at one of his other bars and then gets us firkin hammered on a disgustingly delicious drink he invented… more on that later.

AND YET ANOTHER LIST TO ARGUE ABOUT!!!

Thursday, July 30th, 2009 at 12:00pm by

MunicipalWaste_1

Our friend Carlos Ramirez has posted a list at NoiseCreep of the Top 10 New School Thrash Bands.” There are some really sweet bands on this list – Municipal Waste, Skeletonwitch, Warbringer, and Merciless Death all made the list – but I imagine many of you will be pissed by some of the exclusions (Lazarus A.D., Evile, etc.).

Check out the complete list, then come back and argue about it right here at “Fuck You” headquarters.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GO SEE LIVING COLOUR LIVE

Thursday, July 30th, 2009 at 11:30am by

LivingColourpost

I’m auto-setting this post to go up at 11:30 am, because I will not actually be in front of a computer at 11:30 am – I will be doing a phoner with Vernon Reid. Rarely do I get nervous about conducting interviews, but this is definitely one of those times when I’m right on the verge of just having a total fanboy moment.

A lot of my man-crush on Reid has to do with seeing Living Colour live. When this band wants to decimate a room, they will decimate it. You’re talking about four dudes who, against all odds, are still as energetic on-stage now as they were two decades ago, and who understand the concept that a concert can, and should, be more than just playing note-for-note renditions of their songs. I hesitate to call Living Colour a “jam band” because I don’t want you to get the impression that they’re Phish or whatever, but they do a lot of jamming on-stage, and because they’re all so incredibly, ridiculously, almost unfairly-to-other-bands talented, it’s always just as invigorating as watching them rip in to “Cult of Personality” or “Love Rears its Ugly Head.”

So. There’s a new LC album, The Chair in the Doorway, coming out September 15 on Megaforce. And a new LC album means a new LC tour.

I implore you – if you’ve never seen these cats live before, you must must must go. It really is just a mind-blowing experience. Seriously: they’re doing two shows here in NYC, and Vince and I fully plan to go to both of them. They’re that good.

Dates after the jump.

ZAKK WYLDE CALLS OZZY A PUSSY

Thursday, July 30th, 2009 at 10:30am by

Ozzy-Osbourne-and-Zakk-Wylde-ozzy-osbourne-1202450_453_340

Holy shit, what an exciting morning this is turning out to be.

So. As you may recall, Ozzy recently revealed that he was replacing Zakk Wylde, to which Wylde responded, in so many words: “Huh?”

Then, a few days later, Wylde upgraded his “Huh?” to a “It’s all good,” even though everything we’ve heard tells us that it is not all good.

And it isn’t. For the burly man from dirty Jerz is Zakk Denylde no more. He recently called in to a radio station in Eugene fucking Oregon, of all places, and when asked about the whole sitch with the Ozzman, responded thusly:

THE FEEL GOOD FEUD OF THE SUMMER: ULRICH VS. MUSTAINE VS. IAN

Thursday, July 30th, 2009 at 10:00am by

mustaineulrichmustaineian

CORRECTION: PRATO’S QUESTION COMES FROM HERE. MY APOLOGIES TO PRATO. NO APOLOGIES TO MUSTAINE.THANKS TO BORIVOJ AT BLABBERMOUTH FOR SHOWING ME THE ERROR OF MY WAYS.

It has been a fantastic summer for feuds. Just, really top notch. Isis is mad at Revolver and I’m fairly certain that Revolver is mad at MetalSucks. Fear Factory would be like the new Van Halen, if Van Halen wasn’t still the new Van Halen. And I think it’s safe to say at this point that, pretty much no matter how this whole Dan Nelson/John Bush drama plays out, no one will ever take Anthrax seriously again (assuming they were still taking Anthrax seriously at all).

And now this. Ladies and gentleman, key founding members of three of the Big Four are now all ready to throw down. This is a clusterfuck of epic proportions. I wish you could all see my face right now, ’cause rarely am I this happy.

It’s a long story, and, as is so often the case, I am really just playing The Daily Show to Blabbermouth‘s CNN. Here we go:

DIDJA MISS ANVIL IN THEATERS?

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 at 5:00pm by

lips_robb_anvil

Maybe I’m alone in this, but I found Anvil! The Story of Anvil to be kinda depressing. 50-something year old dudes, holding onto their dream, still hoping to get signed to a major label and strike it rich as big rock stars? Yeah, I have my own impossible pipe dreams to worry about, thank you very much.

Still, that’s not to say that it wasn’t an awesome movie, and funny as often as it was sad. Also, gots to support my fellow Jews in metal.

So. In case you didn’t get to check out Anvil! The Story of Anvil in theaters, it hits DVD on October 6, and will air on both VH1 and VH1 Classic on Saturday, October 3rd at 9:00 pm. You should definitely check it out.

If you’re gonna buy/rent the DVD, here are the special features you have to look forward to:

NEW ALBUM ART FROM BARONESS + THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 at 4:00pm by

There’s all sorts of crazy shit going on behind-the-scenes here at the MetalSucks Mansion today, so I gots to makes this brief.

Baroness have named their follow-up to The Red AlbumThe Blue Record. Okay. I can get behind that. There’s still no release date, but here’s John Baizley’s cover art. Pretty sweet, me thinks:

DIRT FEST 13 INTERVIEWS, PART 3 – WINDS OF PLAGUE: “WE’RE NOT A DEATHCORE BAND”

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 at 3:00pm by

wop1

Winds of Plague = really good people. Not only did they know their shit, they also had a sense of humor that wasn’t consistent with that of an inbred southern hick. Vocalist Johnny Plague can bench-press 5,000 lbs a day and keyboardist Kristen Randall may or may not be into making out with chicks – maybe I read too far into some things she said, or maybe I just automatically assume everyone is gay until proven straight, or maybe I just was hoping to make-out with Kristin because, let me tell you, she is pretty smokin’ in person. As a matter of fact, there isn’t one unattractive person in the band. That has nothing to do with their music, and everything to do with being horny. All the time.

ANYWAYS, Johnny’s idea (which may or may not have been plagiarized) for The Great Stone War is pretty nifty. Yeah, it’s yet ANOTHER concept album. But from what I have heard thus far, it’s a solid fucking record. If you weren’t a fan of Decimate The Weak, do yourself a favor and check out The Great Stone War.  If for some reason you’re not into it, at least you have a bunch of sweet artwork from the album sleeve to peep at from time to time.

For the most part, these guys (and gal) are going to be pretty busy the rest of 2009. Rumor has it they will be touring with Unearth in November, so make sure to keep an eye out for an official press release. Below is my slightly awkward interview.

P.S. – Enough with the WOP basketball jerseys. Please. That shit needs to stop. Seriously, this is just silly already.

BORIS. TORCHE. SPLIT. AWESOME.

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 at 2:00pm by

TORCHE_BORIS_SCAN3_s

Our friends over at Crustcake tell us that there’s going to a Boris/Torche split a lil’ later this year:

The artwork you see above is from a post on Aaron Turner‘s blog, in which he talks about a new split 10″ between stoner/noise rock kings (and queen) Boris and down-tuned, doom-pop princes Torche. The artwork goes with the split, of course.

No word on a release date, but the album’ll come out here in the US on Hydra Head.

Holy shit, is that some cool artwork.

EXCLUSIVE BAPTIZED IN BEER TOUR BLOG FROM WOE OF TYRANTS’ CHRIS CATANARZO

Woe of Tyrants are currently out on the road as part of the MetalSucks co-sponsored Baptized in Beer tour with Bison B.C. and Lazarus A.D. Woe of Tyrants vocalist Chris Catanzaro was cool enough to offer to do a special tour blog for us. Check it out below, and get complete Baptized in Beer tour dates here!

Hey everyone, just checking in from Gallup, NM where we played Monday night on the Baptized in Beer tour with Bison B.C. and Lazarus A.D. It was our first time playing on a Native American reservation, and I hope it’s not the last because those kids knew how to party and support the tour. Kickass times!

YES, BUT I HATE EVERYONE

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 at 12:00pm by

deathcore

Over at Invisible Oranges, Cosmo Lee has increasingly been writing about metal life in addition to his usual reviews. The topic du jour is what happens when you love a band, but hate other fans of said band. Mr. Lee writes:

Recently I was walking and passed by fans exiting a Lamb of God show: dozens of young men with Affliction t-shirts and no necks. I shuddered and thought, “Man, I’m glad I wasn’t there.” Which is unfortunate, as I actually like Lamb of God. Then I shuddered at another thought. As a fellow fan, am I really like them? Am I somehow at heart a neck-less, Affliction-wearing young man?

HERE’S SOMETHING NO ONE WAS ASKING FOR: AN ELECTRONICA REMIX OF MASTODON

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 at 11:00am by

djtroublemaker

Our pals over at Metal Insider are currently hosting a remix of Mastodon’s “Oblivion” by a fellow named DJ Troublemaker (pictured above spinnin’ mad crazy dope shit, yo). My brutha from anutha mutha, Bram Teitelman, writes of the track -

It’s not that it’s terrible – it’s just not particularly good. It’s slow, plodding, and has all the edge of an episode of According to Jim. Other than a line or two of vocals, a guitar sample, and the acoustic bridge, it has almost no resemblance to the original, which I guess is the point. But the end result sounds  like something you would expect to hear while shopping at a store that Mastodon wouldn’t set foot in.

With all due respect, Bram, I disagree – it is terrible. And I’m not saying that as a “purist.” There’s no amount of X in the world that could make this shit sound good. Maybe there’s a world in which Telefon Tel Aviv or somebody could have done a cool techno-remix of this song… but DJ Troublemaker failed. Epically, as the kids say.

Head over to Metal Insider to listen to the remix, then come back here and let us know your thoughts.

I WONDER IF THEY’RE SPEAKING FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE?

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 at 10:33am by

arsislogo

Well, you can’t say that Jim Malone doesn’t have a sense of humor.

After admitting earlier this year that he’s struggled with anorexia, Malone and his band, Arsis, have announced the title of their new album to be Starve for the Devil.

VOIVOD GO OUT IN RELIABLE FASHION ON INFINI

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 at 9:57am by

voivod-infini

So, there are two ways I can approach this review: I can do some haphazard research and come up with a semi-informed opinion of Voivod to judge their new album Infini, or disclose right out of the gate that Voivod is one of those blindspots all enthusiasts of metal have and judge Infini on its merits as a stand alone album. Clearly, I’ve chosen the latter, even if I didn’t intend to, and must admit that while I have not intentionally avoided Voivod, I’m not familiar with their work with the intimate detail that their many of their very dedicated followers are. A number of my favorite bands will mention them in their first breath when talking influences, and their current bassist played on my favorite Metallica album (and, of course, the three boring-to-horrible ones after that). But regardless, I’ve never made time for them, which, depending on who you ask, is a sin punishable by casting me out from the metal Garden of Eden and into the cold, harsh wasteland occupied by Fall Out Boy, or a wise decision on my part. Add to that the fact that Infini consists of the last recorded guitar tracks by Denis “Piggy” D’Amour – a founding member who succumbed to colon cancer in 2005 – and will most likely be their last studio album, and the latter choice is even more of an ordeal.

COMPLETELY UNREADABLE BAND LOGO OF THE WEEK, BROUGHT TO YOU BY ROADRUNNER RECORDS – WIN A COPY OF CKY’S CARVER CITY

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 5:00pm by

Last week’s logo was for a band called Mortuorium. But once again, NONE OF YOU GOT IT RIGHT and MANY OF YOU SUGGESTED IT BELONGS TO SLIPKNOT. Jesus holy hell people. Why do you want me to be sad? Does it please you?

So now I still have two copies of CKY’s Carver City that are just sitting here, sad that they haven’t found a home. All you have to do to win is identify the name of the band whose logo appears below, then shoot me an e-mail with your answer, your name and address at axl AT metalsucks DOT net. We’ll randomly select two winners from everyone who gets it right, and announce his or her names next week.

I give up. Y’all win. This is clearly what you wanted, so I’m giving it to you. If you guys can’t get this, I’m quitting metal forever.

HOW THE FUCK IS UNCLE KRACKER NOT IN PRISON RIGHT NOW?

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 4:30pm by

0817_uncle_kracker_mugshot

I just got a press release that Kid Rock’s boyfriend, Uncle Kracker, has a new album coming out in the fall. To which I can only say: shouldn’t this douche bag be getting raped in prison right about now?

That’s not a judgement on Kracker’s music. I mean, his music sucks, don’t get me wrong. I’m just saying that I quite literally thought the dude was going to jail.

AUGUST BURNS RED LIKE TO MEDDLE

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 4:00pm by

I’m not like a huge August Burns Red fan or anything, but I know that a lot of you are, and their new video, “Meddler,” has some imagery that I find purty. What can I say? I’m a sucker for magic hour.

Check out the video, then weigh in with your thoughts below.
