DEVIN TOWNSEND: STILL HEAVIER THAN THOU

Monday, August 3rd, 2009 at 12:30pm by

For everyone who complained that The Devin Townsend Project’s Ki wasn’t heavy enough – well, first of all, you’re an idiot. It’s a brilliant album, heavy or not.

But, second of all, Mr. Townsend has promised some heavier shit in the future, and, well, here he is laying down guitars for a song called “Stand” which will appear on the already-planned third DTP album, Deconstruction. And it sounds just as heavy as promised.

Devin Townsend > you.

Ki was awesome, and the next album is going to kick so much ass, I can’t wait.

Ki was amazing. Off that topic, is he using an axefx amp simulator? I think he is but im not too sure.

I love Ki and I read a review in revolver where they were getting all pissy that it wasn’t heavy. Ki was very beautiful and amazing
his next album for sure will be amazing there is no going wrong with him

Ok, here’s the thing, i’ve tried getting into strapping young lad, i had a couple of listens to some songs off of city, but it really didn’t do anything for me. Can anyone recommend me another album or specific songs to listen to, because i’m sure i’m missing out, the ammount of accolades this dude gets means there must be something by him that i’d like…….

    • groverXIII

Try ‘The New Black’… it’s a bit more accessible.

      • Walker

I would suggest Ziltoid for a new member to this cult. It captures Devin in all forms. Plus SYL Alien is a must own

    • Tommy Lindbergsen

All Strapping Young Lad is awesome, but maybe you should try some Devin Townsend Band?
All DTB albums kick ass but i’d check out Physicist, Terria and Accelerated Evolution to start.
ALIEN is probably my favorite SYL album.

      • hotel

dude, go for Ocean Machine…amazing, my personal fav

        • Ziltoid

Yea, start with Ocean Machine, Infinity, and Accelerated Evolution. Those are easily his best solo albums that you can really be in any mood an still love. The others are more mood specific IMO.

Also, listen to the last three songs (Funeral; Bastard; The Death of Music) at 3:00 in the morning. It just really clicks at that time of night, and feels really creepy (in a GREAT, AMAZING way).

          • Tommy Lindbergsen

I guess the bottom line is that ALL DTB pretty much rules along with SYL and everything else Dev has done.

          • Canvas Of Flesh

I listened to “The Death of Music” once before hitting the sack and I had the most depressing nightmares all night long. What an awesome song.

      Alien, dude.

  • groverXIII

Fuck yes… that was great. As much as I loved ‘Ki’, it’ll be nice to get some of that heaviness back.

  • Brutalizer

Sounded wicked. Devin is the man!

  • samthebrutal

Can’t wait, dev’s a genius, and he’s got beaver teeth to boot.

I love Devin, but did anyone else catch that he reused one of the main riffs in “Planet Smasher” from Ziltoid? He reused another riff from Ziltoid on Ki but i cant remember which one.

Still, i cant wait to hear this album. And maybe he is gunna tie it in with Ziltoid somehow or something, you never know when it comes to Devin

    • Tommy Lindbergsen

I hope one day he decides to do another Ziltoid themed album. That cd never gets old.

I want to like Ki, I really do. I am just not in that mode right now. But I do need to relax…..

    “Stand” sounds awesome.

    /yawn

    super boring fucking chugs.

    • Tommy Lindbergsen

I have seen a lot of stupid fuckwad comments since are started posting here, but this one takes the cake, must be a pissed off ICP fanboy.

      • groverXIII

        Don’t feed the troll.

        • Brutalizer

          Lol

        • http://www.adrenalinepr.com Natalie

          i agree, don’t feed it.

  • Sammy

I may have to sort of agree with the troll. While I liked the heaviness and liked the evil sounding chord progressions, it soon got repetitive for me. However, in the context of a song, I could see my mind changing.

    • http://www.adrenalinepr.com Natalie

that’s really his style. personally, i’m beside myself about this. soooo ready.

  • The WZA’d

I think Thou is actually probably the heavier band.

    • Canvas Of Flesh

      …but shittier.

  • Tobias

I enjoyed Ki and am looking forward to the next album. Ki was a great counter to Ziltoid — completely different sounding in almost every way. For some reason it reminds of Terria.

    heavy and tasteless.
