SUNN O))) BLACK METAL JEANS IST KRIEG

Sellouts or smart businessmen? Unlimited CMU Daily reports [via MS Maniac Charlie F.]:

‘O)))Bow 1′, a track from Sunn O)))’s 2001 album ‘Flight Of The Behemoth’, has been used in a new advert for Norwegian design agency and clothing company Anti-Sweden’s new line of ‘True Black Metal Jeans’. The jeans will also feature the occult-inspired artwork of American artist and Sunn O))) collaborator Justin Bartlett on their labels.

Is licensing your music for use in a commercial tantamount to selling out? Personally I think that if Sunn O))) can get money for it then more power to ‘em in today’s increasingly lean times for sales of recorded music, but I’m sure there are many of you who will cry “false metal” at the mere thought of it. Watch the advertisement above.

    FIrst of all they aren’t using black metal to sell jeans. Anti is a multi-disciplinary design agency that creates a lot of metal related things. The fact that they made jeans is not only awesome, but it far from a “selling point.”

    On top of that Stephen O’Malley and metal art genius Justin Bartlett (vberkvlt) are all related to the project. Justin did the artwork on the topics.

    Everyone loves to be the sell-out whistle blower. Fucking google it.

    Also, Sunn o))) is awesome.

    I’m glad someone else agrees with me ‘cos I keep reading about how awesome Sunn o))) are and then you listen to their ‘work’ and you have to say it’s just not music. Sonic experimentation perhaps, ‘art’ if that should float your boat but really I think they’re having a laugh at the hipsters expense.

    They were selling these jeans at Inferno Fest in Norway this year. They look exactly like any other pair of black skinny jeans, except they had cute little tags and cost a FUCKTON of money, like, 900 kroner or something (which is about $150 – still way too much for a pair of goddamn pants).

    I DEMAND THAT \\\MAYTAG (a Sunn O))) parody band) GET THEIR OWN LINE OF JEANS (or at least a line of refrigerators by Maytag). These guys at least make funny music. Sunn O))) is awful pretentious crap! Download all of \\\Maytag’s releases from their website for FREE.

    And yes, they’re sellouts. At least call them True Drone Metal jeans or something. This is pathetic. I hate Sunn O))) so much…

        It’s not hard to understand what they do. All they do is play one note and BS it for 10 minutes. I don’t mind slow music, but there has to be SOMETHING going on. With Sunn O))), there is just nothing happening whatsoever. My refrigerator literally makes better noises than they do.

    the commercial’s kind of cool and if people want to give sunn o))) money, that’s fine with me, but the whole thing is still fucking ridiculous. but i definitely wouldn’t consider this selling out. some people have their heads so far up their ass that any sort of success whatsoever is tantamount to selling out, which is really just a crock of shit.
