HIGH SCHOOL BANDS COVERING AVENGED SEVENFOLD = MAXIMUM LOLz

Suck. Embarrasing. Awful. Ear-raping. This is just… wow. Yes, it’s real, and you can read the story behind it on YouTube user StudioZeeber’s video page.

Perhaps even more mindblowing is that there are literally dozens of videos just like this one of young kids covering “Unholy Confessions” in basements and high school gymnasiums. I’ve assembled some choice cuts after the jump for your enjoyment / bewilderment.

And, of course, the Asian kid nails it (more or less):

      Avenged first 2 CD’s have some quality stuff for sure. They were really good at melding hardcore/punk with metal. black/white difference with their next 2 cds which are terrible.

    The best part is the first video where he comes in for the vocals intending to scream out “I TRIED!”, but just lets out a pitiful squeel instead. That made my day.

    I can see why they choose this song. It has a riff that kind of sounds hard to play, but is repetitive can be picked up pretty easily. It’s the same reason everyone at my high school used to play Dispatch and Dave Matthews songs at talent shows.

    I couldn’t make it more than a minute through any of those (although the Asian kid did halfway decent). I suppose you can’t really expect much out of high school kids, but fuck, man…

    And sadly, I used to kinda like A7X… they aided my transition from nu metal to real metal, and they have some talent, musically speaking. Their singer is terribly limited, of course, and a lot of their songs have some pretty lousy riffs… I don’t think anyone really takes them seriously any more unless they are still in high school. But they had some decent stuff back in the day.

    Common guys, these are high school bands. Its completely expected of them to suck. That said, Unholy (is that their name? If it is someone should tell them its taken) is mediocre. Practice, Practice, Practice! Also, dudeman, I like how “into it” you are, but some vocal lessons might help, I took some and I have nothing to regret for it. If these guys all went sXe and covered some Madball songs theyed be passable in the same way that most hardcore bands that cant play that well are passable.

    Hexer, on the other hand, aint that bad, at least for the High School Talent Show circuit. If they start writing there own songs, I can see a fruitfal future of playing the Matinee shows at the local All Ages Hardcore Venue, and possibly opening for some band like Suffokate on an east coast mini tour. Oh, the possibilities!

      i agree that you’ve got to be forgiving of young bands and such.. but c’mon. that first band was uncomfortable to watch. seriously, it was painful. there is absolutely no excuse for being THAT unprepared for a show, ever. if you are going to sound like that, then don’t play. do the world a favor and go practice.

    Golly, things like this make me SO glad that I’m old enough that none of the terrible, embarrassing crap I did when I was a teenager has ended up on the internets.

    Just a lot of the terrible, embarrassing crap I do now, obviously.

    Vinnie, I totally disagree about this being sad. Everyone has to start somewhere, everyone has to suck before being good, and at least they’re picking up instruments, learning to play them and have the balls to play in front of people.

    What IS sad is that posts like this actually work to discourage kids from playing actual rock music with actual instruments.

      I agree with you, sammy. ALL the bands from my high school (including mine) were total dogshit, but then again; they were all comprised of 14-17 year olds that just learned their instruments. It’s very easy to sit back and criticize high school kids for playing, listening to, or covering shitty music, but most people were pretty “lame” in high school. At least they are not sitting around trying to master “through the fire and the flames” on Guitar Hero.

      These videos are funny to watch and have a laugh about, but I am glad kids are out there at least playing music. You gotta start somewhere. This is better than the Pop-Punk shit the young bands used to mimic when I was in school.

    i love a7x, but come on…

    this is just sad, and hilarious, that kid in the the first video is trying so hard to be M Shadows, and failing terribly, i mean, he even holds out the mike to the audience AT THE SAME EXACT TIME that Shadows does in the music video
