Baroness are an amazing band and so is Mastodon. The Blue Record totally kicks ass.

I just can’t believe how much love this band gets from metalheads. No, not because I think they suck or anything, but when you take ultra-feminine aesthetic (the name and record covers, not the music)+hipster adoration+overt indie rock/emo influences (they sound like Argument-era Fugazi on a metal binge)+scene-wide hipster/beardo hatred you’d think=FAIL or something. Oh well. I’m not complaining. I love their music. It’s inspiring to see an ecclectic/original/good-at-writing-songs band go a long way, regardless of their image…

Every time I see Blue Record mentioned, I nearly go into cardiac arrest. I’m unhealthily hyped for this record, and by the description it sounds like it will fulfill all my expectations.

I agree that “Red Album” is a pretty high bar to try and meet, much less jump over, but based on their better-ever-time-I-see-them live shows, I can totally see “Blue Record” pulling it off.
