ADEMA REUNITE, PLAN TO BRING THEIR PATENTED BRAND OF SUCK BACK TO THE WORLD

Thursday, August 13th, 2009 at 2:30pm by Vince Neilstein

As ’90s nu-metal nostalgia reaches its peak (I FUCKING CALLED IT!), the parade of cash-grab nu-metal reunions continues. Joining the ranks of Limp Bizkit, E-Town Concrete, Crazytown, Snot, Cold, Slaves on Dope, and other terrible ear-raping bands I’m surely forgetting, TuneLab.com is reporting that Adema are reuniting and releasing a new DVD. Adema was never really known for much other from a) sucking, b) lead singer Marky Chavez being the half-brother of Korn’s Jonathan Davis. A guy I know once referred to Adema as “Pop-Korn” in casual conversation, and that’s pretty much the most hilarious / accurate thing that could ever be uttered about the band. Not to imply that Korn are genre-bending revolutionaries or anything… but, ya know.

Here’s Adema’s music video for “The Way You Like It” in case you need to be reminded of just how awful they were. I’d completely forgotten about this song… for the better.

At least American Head Charge just called it quits.

    LMAO !!!

  2. lkgf09 says:

    what a joke

  3. Ziltoid says:

I never even knew of this band’s existence until now, but wow that was awful. “Pop-Korn” is a perfect description for this shit.

  4. Tom Campagna says:

i guess i only like E-Town Concrete for being from my hometown

  5. Chris L says:

How dare you sir place Cold with all those shitty fucking bands!!!!!!!

  6. A lot of the acts you mention were probably “gateway bands” for a lot of readers here. Meaning, they got into Cold and Korn and then went on to discover heavier bands. I know a lot of people won’t admit it though. I’m 34 so the way I got into metal was through Kiss and Motley Crue. Sure, there are those who start off with death metal or whatever but it’s usually not the case.

    • Tommy Lindbergsen says:

When people who listened to Korn and Adema got into heavier bands, then this is most likely why all the core bands are popular, since it is my firm believe that Job for a Corwboy and shit like that was spawned from nu metal.

      • kazz says:

I started out with Linkin Park, if you want to call them a heavy band, then got into SOAD. I still listened to mostly rock for awhile until a friend got me into stuff like Caliban, It Dies Today, etc, then i segued into stuff like Opeth, Mastodon, other progressive and death metal. Now I can’t hardly stand all the core bands, although I actually still dont mind LP and I’ll always be a fan of SOAD.

  7. are you implying that Cold is not a shitty band?

  8. sean says:

wow, that’s crazy. Its such an obvious precursor to wigger slam, you can tell all these dudes wished they had the freedom to just make a rap video like they really wanted.

  9. Lord Bling says:

At least we can all agree on something here: Adema swallows.

However, I somewhat liked Cold’s ‘13 Ways to Bleed On Stage’. Flame me all you want, but there was some honesty on that album. Everything else of theirs I heard sucked though.

  10. Joel Bailey says:

what I don’t understand is .. did bands like Adema actually make any decent coin when they were around.. E-Town Concrete too….. How is reforming any more profitable for one of these bands than their current job as a stocker at Wal-Mart or a Fry Cook at Waffle House?

  11. I remember this band…
they did a song on mortal kombat alliance YEARS ago
i thought it was shitty then and i still do to this day,

  12. Jordan says:

This band was bad, but WTF was that song? I don’t remember being on quite that level of suck… just the normal nu metal amount of suck.

  13. Ben says:

Ummm… Sorry, like them or not, Korn were “genre-bending revolutionaries”

Adema, however, sucks and there’s no possible argument about that.

  14. Johnny says:

I’ll admit that when this shit came out I enjoyed it but I was alot younger..and this shit was a gateway to REAL metal.

  15. metalguy says:

somehow this band is constantly recommended to my last.fm i always deny but its like “maybe youll like them tomorrow

  16. The only good thing about Adema was when they had onesidezero opening up for them I shortly left after OSZ played.

  17. deathray76 says:

This saddens me as I know the drummer and bass player personally. They are great people and were members of a couple of really great bands in the past…but yeah. Time to hang it up and take a new direction.

  18. groverXIII says:

    Snot was halfway decent…

Adema, on the other hand, were always shit. I doubt that’s going to change.

    • sYgnal says:

+1 – Snot was pretty fucking cool in my book and they shouldn’t be lumped in with that Nu-Metal garbage.. The musicianship was good and their singer (Lynn Strait, RIP) had a killer voice. The track named “Snot” fucking kills! I rate ‘em right up their with Infectious Grooves.

Though, you are correct Sir… Adema sucks fucking donkey nuts!

  19. \nn/ says:

I dunno, they sound pretty good, sorta…

OK, just joking. Their “Unstable” artwork alone makes me puke.

  20. I think it’s also worth mentioning (since it hasn’t been, yet, on this site) that Tommy Lee is taking a break from his DJing career, and is working on a new Methods of Mayhem album.

  21. zeena says:

WOW! etown DEFINITELY does not fall under this blanket man! they come from the njhc scene, come on, i’d expect more from you!!!!! ;) just b/c hes white and raps DOES NOT MAKE IT NU METAL. Hardcore also has roots in hip hop, so based on that logic anything could be “nu metally.” sorry, i stand by etown as hardcore, not just b/c i’m from NJ but really because musically, it is hardcore.

    • stu1 says:

Hardcore does NOT have roots in hiphop! Where the fuck did you come up with that? They were “rapcore.” That’s what everyone back then called them. it was like less talented rap-metal. They were like a really bad biohazard knock off. Their affiliation with hardcore was based solely on the fact, they called themselves hardcore.

  22. Sammy says:

Korn: enjoy it a second time….

  23. Ben says:

Hey, it’s a lot easier to hate on a whole genre than to actually consider each band on their own individual merits. NOT EVERY “NU METAL”(god I hate that term) BAND SUCKED. Get over it. Grow up. Think for yourselves. This includes you too, Metalsucks bloggers. Seriously, if you feel that American Head Charge, E Town Concrete and Cold sucked, you have absolutely horrid taste in music. Point blank. Not saying you need to like them but to discount them totally as crap… you’re a fucking moron.

  24. cougar party says:

ah yes, this brings me back. These were the days when every music video was a fake live concert and people pretend to rock out.

  25. GraZmus says:

Adema released an album last year, and have been consistently been releasing albums since they started? Since when did they break up? Must of been a short break up

    • GraZmus says:

By the way i don’t really like em… a few decent songs…. i just like to keep up with all music releases.

  26. Jimmy says:

“Not to imply that Korn are genre-bending revolutionaries or anything… but, ya know.”

    Except they pretty much were.

  27. loganarchy says:

I used to really like this song, but I just listened to it again and holy shit this song sucks… the singer looks pretty gay as well…

  28. Revrant says:

Guh, that was as hard to sit through as a Converge video, though for totally unrelated reasons.

I mean, if you took out the guitar, it would be rap, you have the repeating hook, the hot sluts, the crude males, the blatant machismo, the more popular peer showing up for the sole purpose of lending “cred” to your “skillz”.

Thank God the metal recession ended, here’s to hoping metalcore doesn’t bring about another.

    • Tommy Lindbergsen says:

We need another metal recession, metalcore and just about everything else that is popular right now, needs to go away just as bad as tripe like Adema went away.
It wouldn’t matter though, whatever fills the void will suck just as much if not more.
The really good bands…the ones who make good music will always be around, they just won’t be as easy to discover.

  29. Reaper-X says:

I blame Adema’s suckage on Jonathan Davis’ half-brother…for fucking the band into a permanent state of ass-suck.

  30. myke says:

damn it i thought nu metal was dead come on!!!! dont bring back this horrible trend please dont!!!!

  31. djabthrash says:

I think E Town Concrete are awesome and have nothing to do with those shitty nu-metal bands at all. And they definitely have a lot of hardcore in their music. If you don’t recognize it it means :

-you don’t know what hardcore is
-you should get your ears cleaned

  32. Fufkin says:

Bloody awful. Is there a demand for this?

  33. Theres no such thing as nu metal. Its a word purist fucks and journalists with anal rashes made up to describe bands that came out between 95-99. You see the same thing happening with deathcore, that doesnt exist either. How dare you lump Snot in with any other band. Get Some was one of the best albums of all time.

  34. Chris Uber says:

How do these bands get a record deal?

  35. sYgnal says:

I just have to reiterate…. SNOT was damn good and shouldn’t be lumped in with this Adema shit!! It’s obvious that Vince didn’t bother to listen to Get Some as that album would rip these nu-metal acts to shreds. That album still hols up fine today!!!

  36. allan says:

Wow, the maturity of this entire site astounds me, grow up people and seriously get over yourselves.. most of you anyway.
