BRUTAL (PT. 3)

burnt by the sun - heart of darknessIn June I ran an article simply entitled Brutal (Pt. 2) in which I extolled the virtues of a then-newly released Burnt by the Sun track “F Unit.” Only I cheated, ’cause I knew the entire record was just as brutal/awesome to follow it up — and now’s your chance to challenge me on that assertion. Burnt by the Sun have their entire new record Heart of Darkness, due to come out next Tuesday August 18th, streaming in its entirety at HeartOfDarkness.info. I really ought to have included this record on my list of early picks for my year-end Top 10, because really, Heart of Darkness is just impressing me that much.

Stream the whole record here, then report back and tell us what you think. Even that bastion of metal credibility The Village Voice loves it so you know it’s got to be good.

Listened to the first track before the stream quit working. Liked what I heard. Anyone know who is drumming for them these days?

    • Zack

      Dave Witte

      • Slaughterhouse

Listening to it right now actually. So far I’m liking it. Something with some fucking groove.

  • Seb

sounds awesome from what i’ve heard so far :D

  • Ziltoid

    Wow, that was awful.

Really, not one positive thing about it whatsoever.

    • Ryan

Why did I see this coming?

    • j-rock

      Ah fuck you already

Ehhh everything is awful to that kid. If it isn’t really really horrible power/fantasy metal, or an obscure avant garde post rock band then it’s pure shit. I find the power/fantasy garbge, and the avant garde taste to be funny. How can you even combine two really boring, and monotonous genres together!!?!?!

Great album. Dave Witte is beastly.

  • jason

I really like the cover art too.

This is so awesome. I’ve been listening to Forlani nonstop for the past two days.

  • groverXIII

Mmmm… I wasn’t especially impressed. I didn’t really like the vocals, and the production seemed a bit lacking in terms of low-end (although that could just be because it’s a web stream).

/Back to listening to Clutch for me.

  • djabthrash

BBTS releases something awesome once again !

  • djabthrash

And i like that cover art

Got the album already on pre-order (thank you, Relapse!), and I gotta say that it totally kicks ass from front to back.

Best track is “The Wolves Are Running”. Classic closer like “Rev. 101″ from the previous album.

I won’t say it’s the best record of 2009 (that’s still Kylesa’s Static Tensions), but it’s gotta be top 5.

  • John

Boring album. Previous work was better.

  • sYgnal

How ’bout you skip this crap & re-do Brutal Pt.3 with coverage of the new Gorod because that album kicks the shit outta this!!

I want this album to grow a vagina so it can fuck me and I can pretend that it’s rape….even though I love it.
