I look at it like this – i hate Mac users. you know the type. artsy – fartsy 30 somethings who think they’ve “bought in” to somehting special when in reality they’ve flushed their money down the drain on a fisher price computer with bubbly feel good music software. but that’s not why I hate Macs themselves. I hate Macs because they’re over priced. not because thier consumers are douche bags.

Heads-up for the touring artists who visit this page: The Black Sheep in Colorado Springs, where most metal artists coming through town end up at, is only a block down from the largest independent record store in Colorado Springs, Independent Records. The manager is a feisty little lady who tries to support the local scene as much as possible, as well as stock as much of the more obscure and/or underground records as possible. They have a really good cross-selection of music, literature, and swag, overall. I keep meaning to ask her if she makes an effort to stock the artists who play The Black Sheep. If you stop in and talk to her, let her know your band is out there and put yourselves on her radar. She might be more inclined to make sure to stock your band’s stuff in her store.

I mention this because some of my old band buddies used to be sure to visit the local indie stores in each town they played to talk to the management about getting their stuff stocked. Most of these guys were selling their respective band’s CD’s out of the back of their vans, but they said they did see some sales after they left town because people would go to the local independents to buy the album on word of mouth after the shows. I have no idea whether or not that tactic is still relevant in the digital age, but I’d be interested to hear if anyone else here has tried that and whether or not it works for them.
