BREATHINGTHEFIRE

I thought that Beyond the Permafrost was a good album, but to be completely honest, I just did not understand all the hype around this band until I saw them absolutely annihilate at Scion earlier this year. These fellas really know how to put on a live show.

And I fucking love their new album, Breathing the Fire. I don’t know if it’s actually better than Permafrost (e.g., has managed to capture how magnificent they are live in the studio) or if I’m just totally in love with this band since seeing them lay an audience to waste, but either way, I’ve been rocking Fire for a few days now and am pretty enamored with it.

Prosthetic won’t release Breathing the Fire until October 13, but the band is now streaming a new track, “Crushed Beyond Dust,” on their MySpace page. If you’re already a Skeletonwitch fan, you should love this shit; if you’re like me and up ’til now you haven’t understood what the big deal is, this is a good song to get you hooked.

  • Canvas Of Flesh

I haven’t heard this band yet. I might check it out although I haven’t been a fan of any of the new thrash bands.

  • \m/Eluveitie\m/

This is the band that kicked that emo kid’s dick out his mouth in the caption contest…Skeletonwtich are without a doubt one of my favorite new metal bands

  • ceth

I guess i need to see them live because I honestly just have not gotten the big thrill out of anything I have heard by them thats been recorded.

    • jason

See them if you get a chance…they seem like a totally different band live. I am now a convert.

  • jason

I had the same reaction to “Beyond”…good, but it seemed to be lacking something dynamically speaking. THEN I saw them live….Holy Shit! These dudes put on one of the best shows I’ve ever seen, seriously. I will be giving the new album some undivided listening when it drops.

  • SP420

These guys have to be one of the weakest in the modern thrash movement. Along with Toxic Holocaust.

    • dr j

I feel completely opposite. Skeletonwitch and Toxic Holocaust are my two favorite re-thrash bands.

      • tom

I agree about Toxic Holocaust, but I wouldn’t really even consider skeletonwitch a thrash band tbh. There is sooo much NWOBHM melody and enough black metal to consider them somthing else…what that is I don’t know, but it makes my dick hard in any case.

        • stu1

Yeah. I can see why people would throw them in with the new thrash bands, but don’t really consider them that at all.

  • TheHangingBrain

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, these guys destroy live. Their albums do not properly convey the awesomeness of these cats on stage.

  • moose_knuckle

Ive never seen these guys live but all this talk makes me pretty eager to, been listening to beyond the permafrost for a while now though and it really is awsome. Cant wait for the new one and hopefully a uk tour of some kind.

  • http://www.kingdomofnoise.blogspot.com MetalMatt

Skeletonwitch fucking pwns!! (still don’t know what that means)

  • TXHellbilly

Yeah I saw these guys a few times in Dallas and they put on a fucking incredible show. Beyond the Permafrost is a great album, cannot fuckin wait to hear the new one. Anyone know how to get ahold of their material that was released before Permafrost?

    • tom

search around on blogs it’s there, but the production’s pretty horrible…

  • Ziltoid

I hate all of this nu-thrash so much. No creativity whatsoever, blatantly ripping off the already simplistic and boring bands of the 80s (that’s right, I don’t like much thrash either).

    • tom

then why would you even consider listening to new thrash bands?

      • Ziltoid

I’m always hopeful that some band will change my mind. Unfortunately, that has never happened with thrash.

    • Phill

If thrash is so simple then how do you explain the earlier albums of Testament, Annihilator, and Megadeth. Those weren’t exactly simple bands back in 80s.

      • Ziltoid

tbqh, they were pretty simplistic. Thrash in general is built around simplicity, so that’s not really a shocker.

        • Phill

Well, I guess if all you listen to is bands like Decrepit Birth and Origin then I guess they are simplistic.

          • Phill

If you play any guitar, then try to learn all the riffs and solos off of Megadeth’s “Rust in Peace” and then tell me that all thrash is simple.

          • Ziltoid

RiP is one of the few thrash albums I truly like. That’s probably the best of the genre.

        • SP420

You’re a fucking idiot. One can make that same statement for the genre of metal as a whole. Stop making a big fucking deal out of your baseless arguments.

          • Ziltoid

Thrash is derivitave of NWOBHM and punk. Punk, by definition, is simplistic. NWOBHM back then was pretty simplistic too. Obviously thrash is bound to be simplistic.

          • http://uponwingsofblack.blogspot.com/ \m/Eluveitie\m/

Like monkeys on guitars eh Ziltoid? That’s what Anacrusis is for

          • Ziltoid

There’s a reason I mainly like Anacrusis’ last two albums. They slowly ditched the thrash and went decently prog.

          • http://uponwingsofblack.blogspot.com/ \m/Eluveitie\m/

Voivod works too for a thrashy prog (or a proggy thrash)…never got into them much but from what I’ve heard they play a more interesting version of thrash, a genre which is pretty simple most of the time

        • http://richarddawkins.net/ RICHARD DAWKINS

ZIT-ROID YOU CRETIN I DON’T THINK YOU REALLY LIKE METAL AT ALL, YOU CERTAINLY DON’T KNOW VERY MUCH ABOUT IT. PERHAPS YOU ARE NEW TO THE ‘SCENE’ OR PERHAPS IT’S JUST NOT RIGHT FOR YOU…

PERHAPS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER GETTING INTO ‘WORLD OF WARCRAFT’ OR ‘WIKIPEDIA EDITING’ OR ‘SERIAL SEX OFFENDING’ -AS I THINK THESE HOBBIES WOULD SUIT YOUR DORKISH PERSONALITY AND ANTI-SOCIAL TENDENCIES MUCH BETTER.

          • Jason

OK…Officially the funniest comment I’ve ever read on this site. Not only is this guy a brilliant scientist, but a comedian too!

          • Ziltoid

The caps lock makes you look stupid. I obviously like metal (and I’ve made it clear as to what I like many times). It’s not my fault that you can’t read or turn off your caps lock.

    • groverXIII

Hmmm… you don’t like new thrash, you don’t like old thrash…

You’re like the Metalsucks version of Debbie Downer. Or Eeyore.

    • stu1

Can you tell me what band Skeletonwitch is ripping off?

      • http://uponwingsofblack.blogspot.com/ \m/Eluveitie\m/

If you can’t hear The Dave Clark Five and Ace Of Base influences, you’re probably deaf

  • Metal Fuckin’ Dave

Since this band is basically a local band where I live, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing them many times. I must say that they aren’t always great live…sometimes they are fucking terrible. But when they are on they are fucking ON.
