EMMURE VS. THE ACACIA STRAIN: WAR OF THE FLAT-BRIMMED, SIDEWAYS HAT-WEARING BANDS

And if there’s anything we here at MetalSucks do collectively care about it’s hilarious feuds, so color me interested in both bands for the day. Apparently Emmure have a new album out today (news to me), and there’s a song on it called “R2 Deepthroat” (posted below) that’s directed at Acacia Strain vocalist Vincent Bennett. The lyrics are juvenile at best, and oh hey guess what, breakdowns! Swing those little ninja arms, 15-year old Emmure-fan assholes. I’ll just sit back and watch the sparks fly as Bennett prepares a response.

i dont understand why people say emmure has no talent if they didnt have talent then noone would listen to them and you whiny ass old school metal heads wouldnt have anything to talk about just because they do an amazing job of mixing rap style lyrics and rythm w/ a lil break your fuckin skull heavyness does not make them “talentless” it means that they broadened the spectrum a little bit and used their minds to make a sound that shys away from ur everyday metal bands who insist on the same lyric meanings, riff patterns, etc. emmure may write most of their songs about some girl but nobody likes to take a step back and look at the comedy involved in their music philosophy its fuckin funny. stop tryng to over analyze the music and just appreciate the fact that they are doing their own thing and making their music the way they think it should be

yeah, i have to say this, one of my friends went to go see them at sotu a couple years back, and before seeing them live said they sounded like bury your dead, but upon seeing them live was impressed. so after they played he was gonna buy merch from them, when buying merch my other friend yelled out to dl, and vince hey this guy thinks you guys sound like bury your dead!, to which vince said something to the extent of yeah? get the fuck out of here kid, thats messed up, your moneys no good here, and didnt let him buy merch. possibly one of the funniest stories ive ever heard.
on a tangent, when i saw acacia strain live, possibly one of the loudest bands ive ever seen, they were loud as fuck, and i gotta say they were actually really tight. it. one of the best shows ive seen.

Just listened to both “hate” songs and they both suck but the lyrics in “Skynet” actually make sense and are so juvenile..
I saw Emmure with Unearth back in January. Needless to say they sucked. My friend and I counted the breakdowns during their set and in 5 songs they played 40 breakdowns, it was gross. And after they played of course half the crowd left.
I went to the Thrash and Burn tour on Saturday specifically for Thy Will Be Done (who opened) and DevilDriver (who closed), and the venue wasn’t allowing re-entry after 6. I was FORCED to stay in the building to hear For The Fallen Dreams, My Children My Bride, Despised Icon, and Emmure. I had never heard Emmure before and I wish I still hadn’t. I almost left without even caring if I got to see DevilDriver. Any band that sells merch that says “fuck bitches, get money” on it will never be taken seriously as a metal band by me. For a band who play musical instruments, there’s nothing musical about them. Everything is just mindless breakdowns and vocals that sound like a T-Rex having a heart attack. Luckily I stuck around for DevilDriver and they played a short but well constructed set, and made the $20 worth it.
Basically what I’m saying, is that deathcore sucks.

Both bands are pretty simple and boring, but The Acacia Strain do it alot better and are ALOT better live. I saw live emmure and they were boring and generic and the singer sucks. I liked their music alot better when it was 1994 and called Korn. I would take TAS over these douches any day.

I really hate dopey band fueds as much as the next guy and this whole “who did it first” thing is pretty subjective because allot of bands that most people find legendary are all guilty of a little plagiarism themselves but The Acacia Strain is just a good core band that fasioned their own sound and I really believe that bands like Emmure just took it and watered it down.
I saw both bands live at Infest in Sayerville, NJ without knowing much about either of them and I was disgusted by Emmure and became a long lost fan of TAS.

Frankie openly admits that he copied off of TAS in that song. The new album is alright but The Acacia Strain is my favorite band and Vincent, honestly, is my fucking hero. Emmure tries to incorporate different genres, which I give them kudos for but they suck at it. The first two albums were good, The Respect Issue sucked Mr. T’s dick and Felony..is…well, whatever. Ahh. I played in a band that opened up for the Up in Smoke show at Jaxx that originally was headlined by A Life Once Lost but then Emmure was added on the bill and wanted $2,500, which screwed every one in getting paid. And what was bad is when A Life Once Lost got on stage, the crowd wasn’t into it. But then again, about 3/4ths of the crowd was wearing Emmure shirts. It was very sad.

oh my. when ever emmure is brought up there is a goddamn war of comments. Emmure does suck, I listened to their whole cd and its by far the shittiest fail ive ever heard. If Korn made an album and it had breakdowns, it might sound like it, but wouldn’t suck as hard. TAS originated the sound, if you listen to “rusted over dreams” by emmure and “smoke you later” by TAS back to back, you’ll notice they sound exactly the same. Except TAS song came out first. funny..

So here is some backround info. I’m from chicopee ma where the acacia strain is from.. saying that they are the poineers of deathcore is 0 correct. And someone said that they ripped off blood has been shed is funny considering that dan daponde left bhbs and joined tas. But to the emmure bull. They used to come to tas shoes asking all sorts of questions pertaining to how tas gets their sound. Like what they tune to and whatnot. Vincent has said over and over again that skynet is not about emmure. But yes tas is wayyy better

Considering one of the Acacia Strain’s original guitarists was in BHBS, it’s not too surprising they sound(ed) similar. The BHBSness doesn’t seem to have carried on much past the first two albums, at least to me. BHBS is definitely way better, and I’m fuckin juiced they’re coming out with a new album (someday) soon. Either way, TAS is probably the only band of that style I’m into. Emmure, Recon, For The Fallen Dreams, and all those other mosherific metalcore bands are god-awful.
As far as Emmure…saw them a few months back on that Winds of Plague tour. I’m glad our now-former label dude got us in for free cuz I definitely wouldn’t have wanted to waste 18 bucks on that shit. All Shall Perish rules but definitely not worth shelling out almost 20 bucks to see.
Anyways, even drunk, Emmure is hands down one of the worst bands I have ever seen live (shitty bands sometimes sound good drunk, as I’m sure everyone knows). Their coordinated stage moves and ridiculous rockstar-ish poses were annoying and cheesy as all hell. After they played me and my drummer were on the bus that them and WOP shared. The drummer, although somewhat nice for offering me some whiskey (a 5th of Jim Bean, which I drank the majority of the 2/3rds that was left), was a complete tool and kinda gave off a creepy vibe. His brother guitar player dude still was in rockstar mode apparently and I kinda wanted to punch him, but I figured settling for drinking all his/their whiskey was a more rewarding compromise. In any case, no real point to this end paragraph save for the fact that I can personally attest to, at least in the 10-15 minutes I subjected to them, that Emmure are as big of blowhards as people believe them to be.

Too bad Vincent spoke first with Skynet, R2deepthroat is in fact a sad comeback on Frankies part, The lyrics to Skynet are much better. And Emmures Wack, Acacia strain Is much better in general, and YES Emmures whole career is based off of ripping off Acacia Strains “3750″ album
i prefer emmure over acacia strain. they are so much heavier. even though 3750 and goobye to gallows have a somewhat similar sound, i don’t think saying that emmure ripped acacia off would be fair. they play a very similar genre, but both have their own sound that sets them apart from each other. i will admit that acaica had a huge influence on emmure, but honestly, emmure is mostly a structure of breakdown after breakdown with the occasional riff and clean vocals. acacia strain generally has a different sound/structure. they are not a band that is based off of playing breakdown after breakdown, whereas emmure is. bands get infulenced by other bands sometimes — big deal. it doesn’t mean that they are ripping them off, especially when their sound varies in many ways.
either way, for the fallen dreams is waaay fucking better than both bands combined, so that’s who everyone should be discussing.
I have seen both the acacia strain live and emmure. Honestly emmure is heavy and fun to listen to because of the massive breakdowns but felony is beyond garbage. that fucking nu-metal riffs that sounds like god damn disturbed. The acacia strain was one of the funnest bands i have seen and if you get to know vince he is one of the funniest guys i have ever talked to/listened to. They put on a great show. they arent my favorite band but i give them props for a good show for the money i paid for. I dont care about genres either whether its deathcore grindcore nintendocore fuck it. if you enjoy it who the fuck is the next guy to say it is shitty music.

To be honest. Deathcore is a good sub genre, the only reason people hate it is because shit bands come around that tarnish the sound and culture of deathcore. Im in a deathcore band, Im a normal person, I smoke too much weed, i go to college, i play some fat gigs and every deathcore band that plays, wether there local or not get along because we all play the music and all have similiar life styles, im not saying every deathcore band smokes copiuos amounts of weed or anything like that.
