I SEE YOU ARE EXCITED ABOUT BRUTAL LEGEND. I AM EXCITED ABOUT BRUTAL LEGEND, TOO.

We’ve gotten a ridiculous number of e-mails over the past couple of weeks from people who want us to know how awesome the soundtrack for Brutal Legend, the upcoming metal-themed video game starring the voice of Jack Black, is going to be. As a matter of fact, we didn’t write anything about it because it was one of the situations where we got so many e-mails, we didn’t think we’d really be telling anyone anything they didn’t know.

But in case ya don’t know: in addition to more mainstream, Guitar Hero-friendly acts like Sabbath, Priest, Bodom, In Flames, etc., there’s also gonna be a bunch of more obscure (or at least obscure to non-metalheads) bands like Enslaved, Slough Feg, Coroner, Mirrorthrone, and a bunch of others. So, yeah. Whomever is putting this thing together really knows his or her shit.

Here’s the latest trailer for the game, courtesy our now 100% more worldly friends at Metal Injection. And in case you’re like the one person who doesn’t know, the complete soundtrack listing is after the jump.

This game is going to kick so much ass…look at that list of fucking metal…JUST LOOK AT IT!

    • cougar party

I was convinced this game would suck, but after seeing this trailer and the soundtrack, I think this game will slay.

Where’s Bolt Thrower? That band is made for gaming.

    • Tanner

I greatly concur. I also think High on Fire, Amon Amarth and Krisiun would of been fitting from the looks of this game. but other than that: HOLY SHITBALLS THATS A SICK LIST!

  • Rik

Is it just me or does Static-X on this list stick out like a sore thumb?

    • http://uponwingsofblack.blogspot.com/ \m/Eluveitie\m/

That’s probably background to a level where you hack Wayne Static to pieces or something

Tim Schaffer said in an interview that he wanted to cover every sub-genre of metal, including nu/alternative.

Does anyone know how the soundtrack is being used?
For instance, is it being used to for level/boss/cut-scene themes or does the whole playlist just keep cycling like in a Tony Hawks game?
Cause if the songs are being used for more specific things then the inclusion of the Static-X track might be during a cut-scene where they take the piss out of nu-metal or something.
Just speculating here but that track in particular does look REALLY out of place.

    • oblivion

from what ive heard its during battle sequences cause like a special move is u solo and then all ur enemies die or something like that sooo theres a lil thing like that . hitthe button when the thing pops up , u get the idea

so forgive me if I’m retarded for not knowing, but what platform(s) is this coming out on?

    • DJ

      ps3 and 360

      • http://www.myspace.com/1033metal Jackson

thank you, I was feeling far to lazy to do any research myself at the moment

  • Heavy Metal

it has Running Wild fucking kick ass

  • Sacajawea

That would be a pretty good songlist for a guitar hero game too.

  • Metal Fuckin’ Dave

Jesus fucking Christ! That soundtrack is like my entire journey through metal from birth to now….Perhaps I will give this game a chance after all.

  • Canvas Of Flesh

I was looking forward to this game until about the time that Ozzy joined with the project and then Dio mysteriously was “fired”. I still may get it as I’m a huge fan of Schaffer’s work.

    • Kyle

Yeah, fuck Ozzy! Dio would have been so much better to include in this game!

That being said, I’ll probably still play it…

  • Johnny

    Jesus christ I cannot wait.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Carlos-Ramirez/631635101 Carlos Ramirez

That Iron Maiden game for Playstation was horrible. Fingers crossed for this one!

  • PD

    Coroner! Skeletonwitch…and 2 3IOB songs!
Fuck I might have to start playing video games again.

  • Ahab

Tim Schafer fucking rules and this is on the top of my must-have list for the fall. Amazing soundtrack to an amazing looking game.

  • therealmetalmatt

I’m really surprised at how varied this list is. My initial thought was that they would only include music prior to 1986

    • seveword

I thought that would be the case too, but it looks like Tim Schafer actually likes metal, not in the “oh yeah my mom totally likes metal” but the “I am an intelligent, reasonable person who likes metal” kind of way.

  • http://www.myspace.com/shadow_patton Patton

    This game needs more SLAYER.

  • FacelessOne

Depressingly lacking in death metal. A game like this could really do with some Suffocation or Dismember or Atheist. Nonetheless, still pretty solid, certainly far better than I would have expected. Hopefully the game proves to be fun, looks like it has the potential to be an amusing time killer.

  • Mynamesucks

I thought they were only going to do bands during the 80′s but i guess i was wrong.

  • bradican

i see no pig destroyer on here, and i would hope he would represent some good grind on here

otherwise, this is an awesome soundtrack for a mainstream video game

  • Jonathan

TWO ICED EARTH SONGS?! TWO?! Except for the absence of Killswitch Engage, I am 100% happy with this list.

  • Kyle

I never thought the day would come that a game’s soundtrack would include tracks from bands like Tvangeste, Rotting Christ, and Dark Tranquillity!

  • West Virginia

    “Oblivion Instrumental” Mastodon

i want to hear that shit right now.

also 2 Enslaved songs is fookin great.

  • Gary S.

“I notice you have braces. I have braces too.”
