He was known to be able to play all kinds of different shit and to write in the same vein as he did in Pantera would have defeated the purpose of a new band. It would just have been Pantera with a singer who could never fill Phil's shoes and they would have bombed. I also think Dime after Pantera kind of lost his edge because of the fallout of losing Phil. He kept drowning his sorrows in booze all the more and you can see in photos around that time how different he looked, putting on weight and his face all bloated and shit. In actual fact Pantera were nothing like their former selves as early as 2003-4 with Phil's heroin addiction in full swing. The chemistry just wasnt there anymore and they werent sounding as tight. My friend saw them on tour in 04 and he was a big fan and plays mad guitar himself and he was disappointed by the lackluster show. Its kind of sad but thats life.
