yeah looks like this business model works, but for who?the band? Or the label.
Touring the hell out of a band is hard work on the people in the band. If label shares in the income on touring how do the bands ever make any money after fuel expenses.
Yeah Sumerian sounds amazing, no marketing or focus on Cd sales just tour the band to death!

I’m going to guess their bands don’t sell as well as other metal labels who probably get less buzz. It’s definitely a well thought out business model but it’s essentially the same thing as the major label “360 deals” that everyone complains about.

I agree. The tour the shit out of our band system really works, Sumerian’s bands always seem to be the talk of all the kids and the most popular because of their complex touring schedules, and a lot of the time they get the best tours as well. Even though the bands on Sumerian are mostly the same and shit, I would love for my band to be represented by their label because of the crazy touring their bands go on, and that’s the way to get out music.
Also, when I saw Periphery signed on Lambgoat, I was like, where’s MS coverage, they predicted this?! haha

As much as I hate Sumerian’s bands (all except The Faceless, who put on a damn great live show), that business model of theirs is obviously a good one. They only have a few bands, yet the label has gotten some big time recognition. I’d like to see their financial reports to see if they’re actually doing well or not, but at least its a progressive take on the music business.
