“In the Ashes They Shall Reap,” the first song we’ve gotten to hear off of Hatebreed’s new, self-titled album, is streaming here.

I have a distinct opinion about this song – but I’m not going to share it. No. Because we’ve been enjoying you kids duke it out so much, I wanna keep my nose out of it… at least for now. I just wanna hear what you guys think.

Weigh in with your thoughts below. Hatebreed comes out September 29 on E1.

Heard the song on Sirius a few days ago. Two words: HOT GARBAGE.

  • goolash

Huh for some reason the vocals during the verses remind me of “We Care Alot ” by Faith No More

    • justin

i thought the same exact thing listening to this… i’m still waiting for hatebreed to write their second song.

  • Chad E. Death

Its not a great song by any means but lets be perfectly honest , its something different and thats what ive been waiting for from Hatebreed for many years. Seeing as they have writen the same record at least 4 times in the last 7 tears or so ..

  • jackattack

Apparently someone forgot to give Jamey the memo that A Perfect Murder already wrote this song 5 years ago… and they ripped off Perserverance… which essentially ripped of Pantera… so… fuck where am I going with this…

  • Cincitucky

Damnit Hatebreed, I figured this would happen. Start off strong but keep falling with each subsequent release.

There are definitely two types of bands that exist, those that can keep reinventing themselves (or have some ability to sound fresh) and those that are a one trick pony. Hatebreed appears to be the latter of the two.

I guess It’s what I expected. Chanting hardcore lyrics with typical Hatebreed music.

  • Dan Burton

Seriously boring. Definitely not the same band that did Satisfaction Is the Death of Desire

    • jackattack

I kinda thought the same thing. Extremely boring.

  • http://www.myspace.com/uglydirge aaron m.

wow. i didn’t think they could sound any more generic than they did before, but somehow they’ve somehow managed to outdo themselves once again. bland, bland, bland.

I do not have access to myspace its blocked here at my Job :(

  • http://john@metalsucks.gov John

    Holy shit, man. That’s terrible.

  • Jason

Kudos for them for trying something a bit different within their formual. Didn’t think it was that bad.

    • Jason

      *Let me re-type that*

Kudos to them for trying something a bit different within their formula. Didn’t think it was that bad.

  • Brandon

its definantly different which is cool but it seems boring to me

  • Rigidie

Big Hatebreed Fan……… Song Is Alright….. Might take some time for me to like it…. They have change sound not hard enough for me. The song is to…… U DECIDE

  • TurdFerguson

I dig the vocals, but the music just seems to be lacking something.

  • groverXIII

Can they sue themselves for plagiarism?

  • djabthrash

The verse riff is cool and interesting, the rest is very average if not boring.

Good they evolve though, even if it’s a bit too late.

jasta should avoid trying to sing, he can’t pull it off. other than that, the song wasn’t bad

  • Chris

It sounds like they looped the chorus for 3 minutes and called it a song. Very boring and ‘cookie-cutter,’ sounding to me; borderline nu-metal. I’m not impressed.

  • Phill

Nothing to say about this song other than it’s just not good.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mathew-James-Saunders/1153389571 Mathew James Saunders

How do they not know they keep making the same song over and over….

  • Failure

    sounds like hatebar to me

    • Sylvester

      This.

Not totally horrible, but sounds more like backing music for some MTV “extreme sports” video montage.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/agmkreptile FuckYourGayEmoHaircut

ugh,I hate it…which means that Axl probably loves it.

    • Ziltoid

I was going to type up something, but then I found this, and it’s much more succinct and to the point than what I was going to say.

This poster deserves a Klondike bar.

  • Dan Marsicano

I agree with those who are saying its something different, a slight evolution of the sound they have raped to death since 2002. I give Hatebreed credit for that, but I hope to God that Jamey doesn’t do clean vocals in any of the other tracks on the album. Wow, were those awful.

Whoever said the mid 90s could come back needs to be kicked in the face.

  • Permafrost

Sounds alright. Could make a good wrestling intro song.

Gets a bit repetitive near the end, but nothing bad.

    • http://www.myspace.com/unholy2 Zack

That’s the exact same thing I thought about a minute into the song. Sounds like Hatebreed, which I’m totally ok with.

  • anathema

zzzzzzz…. wait, what? hatebreed has a new album coming out?

new boss, same as the old boss. so…complete crap.

  • Porkspam

Funny that they made the album self titled, could have done the same with every song. just stamp “generic Hatebreed” on it and ship it out to the kids

  • Dilznoofus

Awful. This sounds like every Mushroomhead side project that came out of Cleveland in the late 90′s.

  • derek

i like some hardcore every once and a while but hardcore is fucking dead man. i havent heard an original hardcore song in years. its the same shit every fucking time. and its not even aggressive anymore.

  • You Don’t Know Me

Just like every other piece of music Hatebreed has put out since 2002, they get a giant “meh” from me. They’ve never been anything great but they’re not a horrible band either. They just write the same exact song over and over and over and over. Play “I Will Be Heard” and “This is Now” at the same exact time and it really is the same exact fucking song (I’m not even joking about this). Same riff. Same chord progression. Jamie Jasta’s screaming pattern is even the same exact thing. Shit… even the lyrics of both songs are talking about similar topics. And if you do that and STILL don’t believe it, play “Perseverance” and “Live for This” on top of each other and you’ll get the same results with those songs.

  • LilalCFH

    It’s a 3 minute build-up to nothing.

And someone tell Jamey he’s not Kirk Weinstein…

    You can’t sing dude.

  • Dave

meh, nothing to write home about

  • http://www.ftsmetal.com FTSMETALDOTCOM

I hope Jamie Jasta breaks his ankle one day when he’s busy jumping da fuck up

  • Bicro

Ah, good ol’ Hatebreed. The very first band to which I threw away an album.

    Garbage

    Garbage

    Garbage.

  • Sam

    Suck a fuck Hatebreed.

  • Rik

I’ve never liked Hatebreed but this sounds bad even for them.

  • SP420

C’mon, get this shit off the site.

  • tayhammer

Guys, please wait until you hear the real song to form your opinion. They posted a b-side from Fear Factory’s Obsolete by mistake.

    • skepticsteve

i def see the fear factory link…. i thought more pre demanufacture though

  • MHJ

Do me a favor, Hatebreed. Stick to making songs like those off of “Under the Knife.” Otherwise, stop making half-assed “metal” songs. I liked you better when you were underground.

  • Metal J.

Stupid toughguy music. Sounds less like metal and more like rap than what I remember of the limited Hatebreed my ears had to endure.

I have been a Hatebreed fan for a long time, and considering that, I feel that I am completely valid in stating my point. The new song is good. Not amazing, but it’s good. Hatebreed have a certain and distinctive style that they don’t like to change from. Their formula works, despite the fact that it is the same formula they have used since day one. However, since I have been a Hatebreed fan for quite some time, I noticed a lot of changes from their previous albums. During Supremacy, Jamey added more patterns to his vocals, and now it seems that he did the same thing. Nothing amazing, but just adding on what the Hatebreed sound is already about. It seems that Hatebreed listened to Crowbar throughout the entire recording, but Crowbar are fucking fantastic, so that is not at all a bad thing. So, new song, good, not great, not amazing, but good and enjoyable.
