NEW SHIT FROM PELICAN

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009 at 2:30pm by

pelicanChicago instru-metallers Pelican have posted a new song, “Strung Up From the Sky” — from their forthcoming full-length What We All Come To Need (October 27th, Profound Lore) — on their MySpace page. Pelican quietly released a 3-song EP earlier this year called Ephemeral, and the upcoming full-length will be their first for the Greg Anderson of Sunn O)))-owned Southern Lord Records. As someone who’s never really been that into this band before, I really dug the EP and I’m very much looking forward to the new album: the EP and one new song are tighter, clearer and seemingly more structured than what I’ve heard from the band in the past. So – check that new song out now and enjoy it whilst we wait for another one to hit the ‘net before the album drops in 2 months.

    Psst… it’s Southern Lord, not Profound Lore.

      again with the lack of fact checking. hahah just messing with ya. (don’t check the facts on my site!!)

      but really, Southern Lord and Profound Lore that the same number of letters in each word and the second words both start with “Lor”.

      Is Pelican really on Southern Lord? Awesome!

        Oops. It’s not a lack of fact checking, it’s called a mistake. I had the press release email right in front of me and still fucked it up!

    Every time I try to get into Pelican I just figure I could be listening to Isis and switch it. For not having to focus on singing I would think their music would at least be more interesting. I continue to check out their releases to see if they change it up but this song really sounds like more of the same from them.

    I like these guys a lot, but was not a big fan of “City of Echoes.” I *really* like “Australasia” and “The Fire In Our Throats…” is very good too.
    I never really got into Isis, and actually like Pelican better. One of the band members used to work where I work here in Chicago, and it was right around the time they were starting to blow up, so that probably has something/a lot to do with my interest in them and my liking their music as much as I do.
    I do like what I’ve heard of the new stuff though – like Vince said, more focused, tighter than some of the earlier stuff. I’m looking forward to it.

    Sure, Pelican isn’t everyone’s cup o’ green tea. And I understand that. What I don’t understand is being ambivalent about a group like Pelican and plugging a signed bass from Mudvayne like Mudvayne is the truest of the true. Have you listened to Mudvayne? Without shrieking or diving for the ‘off’ switch?

    I like Pelican, have since the first song I heard. I own all of their full releases, but I didn’t hear a thing about that EP, so I’ll have to track it down. I’m digging the song, too.

    Pelican=great live show.
    I really have to be in the appropriate mood to sit down and listen to one of their albums in it’s entirety.

    I’ve said it before. TUSK>Pelican
