1. In the song writing process, would you rather write your basslines before or after guitar is added? And could you explain the reason why?

2. How does it feel to be a role model to fellow musicians like myself?

3. When did you first realize that Mudvayne had "made it", and what were your feelings?

4. I personally love your tone. Would you ever give out the combination to your sound?

5. Which of the Mudvayne songs do you feel is your favorite to play? And most difficult?

6. If you could pick one city to play in, which one would you pick? And why?

7. In one word, describe how you feel about recording in the studio.

8. Would you ever make a bass instructional dvd for your techniques?

1. Jonas Hellborg's "Art Metal", what do you think?

2. Why the initial switch from Mesa to Ampeg?

3.I know you've mentioned before you don't like to give away all of your secrets, but how did you accomplish such an amazing tone for the L.D. 50 record? (hands down one of the most unique of bass tones, and I listen to a wide of array of music)

4. Mudvayne has cited Tool as being a large influence. In that respect, how was working with David Botrill?

5. You've mentioned before your eclectic musical taste, what are some of your more obscure musical selections?

6. Matt seems like quite the avid reader, how about yourself? What are you currently reading and what are some of your favorite books?

7. Personally, how do you feel about odd meters? Also, will they prevalent on the new record?

8. The all-so-typical influences question. Who influenced you most to incorporate slapping into your bass playing?

9. Do you have any lyrical input in Mudvayne? How closely do your political views follow what is expressed through songs such as "Choices", or say, "We The People"? (a political question hopefully won't disqualify me)

10. You mentioned a while back that you didn't use effects. What caused the change of heart about effects? (I.E. distortion on tracks like "IMN" and "Pulling The String")

Thanks for your time, keep up the good work!

Hey Ryan,
I actually seen you guys on my 21st birthday at first mariner 3 years ago and again at Rams Head Live but i've been a fan since LD50.

1) Are there any tips or tricks that you could give to an up and coming bass player?

2) I started learning bass on a 4 string Peavey but now I play a Warwick Katana Swamp Ash what kind of bass did you start learning on?

3) Are you a big fan of effects for bass?

4) Before getting on stage do you still get nervous?

5) Is there any venue that has become your favorite to play in or that you definitely wanna go back and rock the hell out of?

6) Growing up nowadays there are so many influential bass players out there, who most influenced you as an aspiring bass player?

7) Mudvayne's new album is coming out in a few months... Is there any particular song on the album that is your favorite to play?

8) When you guys first got big what was the face paint and hair dye all about?

9) Being an innovative and influential bass player such as yourself are you always trying new things or is most of what you do stuff you learned when you were younger?

10) Are you as talented on any other instrument as you are on bass?

Ryan, hey it's Matt... Its been a while I hope everythings ok with you.. I cant believe you are doing this... I have went with out my bass since your show... Seriously, that shit really happened and I havent played for months, after no response from you I thought you would think I was bullshiting but I wasnt!! You can ask all my friends and find out for yourself... I am moving to cali. in a few months and I wish you could make time for me again someday... I wish you would give me a chance to win the bass too cause it would mean the world to me if you could do that for me... Ever since my lesson with you my life has taken a downward spiral and my daughter and I have been struggling in so many ways that I can't hardly afford to eat... I am not asking for anything other than a chance to win the bass ( If so hopefully it would be a 5 string cause im ready for the switch from my old six string.. It would mean the world to me if you could help me win this, ask me what ever and you know I will answer... If not its all good, all I really want is a chance to kick it with you again, you know how much you have changed my life... your music is one of the best things this life has to offer well if you feel like actually replying me my number has changed so it would be best if you messaged me back here on my myspace page... I know you don't have an account but you can make up some fake temporary alias, but please give me a chance again... Thank You for all that you and your music have done to my life...

What types of music did you study if any to influence your playing style?

What exercises do you do to improve your speed and fretboard accuracy?

Hey, I'm a bass player, I enjoy playing a 5 string bass, but I can't afford a 5 string Warwick because I lost my job!

1. Who is your favorite band member of Mudvayne?

2. What is your favorite Primus song?

3. What was your first instrument?

4. Steak or lobster?

5. What notes are your strings tuned to?

6. Do you support war for greed?

7. Jurassic Park I, II, or III?

8. How many Warwick basses can you give away?

9. If you had to predict a dramatic/catastrophic event to occur in America in the next ten years, what would you chose?

10. Have you ever been to the bars in Champaign-Urbana Illinois?

do you vary your live set up, from the one you would use in the studio.

who is your main influence.

what kind of cabinets do you use.

do you prefer active, or passive basses.

ive seen mudvayne literally over a dozen times, with many openers. who was your favorite opening band. mine would have to be in flames.

Why does it have to be a Rockbass, and a Vampyre at that? Nasty. Why not actually keep in the Mud'vayne' and sponsor a Thumb, neck through would be nice. Or a limited edition, nice! As for the gothic wannabe's with their evil scary jagged little guitars and basses, no thanks.
