MUTINY WITHIN’S CHRIS CLANCY IS A TALENTED DUDE

Thursday, August 27th, 2009 at 4:30pm by

Metal Insider posted this video of Mutiny Within vocalist Chris Clancy singing opera (La Boheme, if I’m not mistaken). And all I can say is: holy shit, this dude is talented. Even if you don’t like opera, there’s no getting around how good this guy is. Check it out:

Mutiny Within’s debut album will come out Roadrunner sometime in 2010. In the meantime, they’re about to start a tour with Soulfly. They’re a lot of fun live, and no one should be surprised if they end up being “the next big thing,” so check them out now and you can say you knew ‘em when. Get dates here.

It’s cool that he can sing like that, but I wouldn’t say that it was amazing.

      ok. you do it better.

      • WookieBastage

I don’t have to be able to do it in order to know that I’ve heard better.

maybe you’re underwhelmed because the piece is underwhelming.

hold on. i’ll come up with other theories why this isn’t that great after i finish this box of wine.

    @WookieBastage

I’ve heard better as well. Obviously he isn’t going to be that great when he has focussed more on metal rather than opera singing. Still pretty awesome though

    • WookieBastage

      Agreed.

Wow. That was gorgeous. And color me simple and uncouth or what have you, but I was sufficiently amazed.

Dude may not be Pavarotti, but he’s pretty fucking talented. I’m definitely checking these guys out.

Wow. Just wow. At first, I had a hard time telling if he was lip syncing or not (I’m sompletely serious). Fucking cool!

    • TurdFerguson

It did look fake to me at first, but i realized it wasn’t towards the end. fucking cool indeed.

Wow he’s talented but its weird to see a member of a metal band do that

Not bad. His diction was a bit off, but not surprising for a guy named Clancy. Some of the larger intervals in the high range seemed like they slipped into a metal falsetto and were a bit sharp maybe. He hit a bit flat in the beginning low notes too I think, but not bad for someone who isn’t a professional opera singer.

    Compare with this Manowar performance:

Much better diction, but then again he had lessons, and is a dego.

    And then there is Bocelli:

    Not bad for a lawyer.

It’s cool to see Chris on a site like MS. I was good friends with the guys of Mutiny back when Samus (of Abigail Williams) was still drumming for them and AJ (the bassist) was doing lead vocals on top of bass. I miss Samus on drums, their new dude is a guido douchebag

He was doing a Mike Patton thing a little bit. Which is sort of cheating, because only MIke Patton is allowed to do that really.

Nessun Dorma is from an opera called “Turandot”.

While I’m familiar with the piece, I didn’t know that off the top of my head. I actually had to – brace yourself – look it up. GASP!

If you’re going to pretend you know something about opera, or whatever it is you’re writing about, take the five seconds and Google it. That’s why it’s there.

Pretty good considering his normal musical outlet is a metal band. Seeing as the only other person I’ve heard do it is Pavarotti himself (which was quite an eye-opening performance, and one of the few enjoyable moments from my college music history class) it didn’t sound quite as good to me, since I know how great it can be.
