MARILYN MANSON VS. TREVOR STRNAD, THE RAPE TRIAL

Monday, August 17th, 2009 at 10:30am by

marilyn mansontrevor strnad

UPDATE: According to Lambgoat, this story is bunk. Oh well.

Is this summer’s Rockstar Mayhem Festival trek the nail in Marilyn Manson’s coffin? Manson appears to be fucked up beyond belief in the press he’s done this year, and by all accounts his headlining stage show is a complete wreck night after night (we didn’t even watch). And now this: Manson has threatened to “rape” Black Dahlia Murder frontman Trevor Strnad’s face at a recent fan meet-and-greet in Florida.

Reports the New Zealand Herald:

The incident erupted as Marilyn was signing autographs for fans at a meet-and-greet in Florida, US, when Strnad shouted: “Welcome to the freak show,” prompting Marilyn to write “I hate those ****s” on the tablecloth in front of a fan.

STEPHEN MAWSHING

Monday, August 17th, 2009 at 10:00am by

This could be considered borderline offensive… but fuck it. Just when you thought you’d seen it all… wheelchair circlepit moshing to Cannibal fucking Corpse at the Rockstar Mayhem Festival.

Cheers to this guy for keeping it brutal, and to the rest of the moshpit denizens for their support. Only in heavy fucking metal. This is why I love it.

Thanks to MS Maniac Geoff H. for sending in (and presumably filming) this clip.

JUMPING DARKNESS PARADE: DAATH’S EYAL LEVI ON THE HEIRARCHY OF THE METAL WORLD

Friday, August 14th, 2009 at 4:30pm by

jdp-01

So playing underground metal is interesting for various reasons. There’s a real hierarchy to it. It has its own set of stars. Its own celebs. Legends. Etc. But in the grand scheme of the music industry, it’s nothing but a drop in the bucket.

Forget Metallica and the huge bands. I’m talking about everything else. Maybe these days, when records don’t sell like they used to and metal sells like it always has, it’s a bigger drop in the bucket. But check this out. A metal band sells 100,000 units. I’ts something to open up champagne and do coke off of strippers asses over. Tour buses, flat screen TVs, WOW WE’RE ROCKSTARS. Do you guys realize that on a major label in the mainstream world, 100,000 units is an abject failure?

ALICE IN CHAINS WANT YOU TO “CHECK YOUR BRAIN”

Friday, August 14th, 2009 at 4:06pm by

AliceInChainsWhat an awesome way to start the weekend.

Finally, after weeks and weeks of crappy bootlegs, we get some actual new music from Alice in Chains! Our friends at Metal Insider are streaming the band’s new single, “Check Your Brain.” And guess what? It is CLASSIC Alice. The guitars, the vocals, the hook, everything… I mean, swap out William DuVall for Layne Staley and the song would easily fit on the band’s self-titled album.

In short: we think it’s awesome. Listen to it here, then come back and let us know what you think.

Alice in Chains’ big comeback album, Black Gives Way to Blue, drops September 29.

EXCLUSIVE FREE MP3 OF WEEKEND NACHOS’ “NIGHTS”

Friday, August 14th, 2009 at 2:00pm by

unforgivable

Chicago’s Weekend Nachos play furious, grimy, fuck-you Hardcore with a capital “H,” and they ended up being one of the stand-out bands on last year’s Scott Hull compiled This Comp Kills Fascists. Now the band has a jugular-ripping good new album, Unforgivable, dropping September 1 on Relapse, and your Uncles Axl and Vince have your first taste: a free mp3 of the track “Nights.” Is it pretty? Hell no. Does it absolutely kill? Hell yes.

You can pre-order Unforgivable here. Weekend Nachos head out on tour at the end of August; check out their MySpace page for a complete list of dates.

IS DIABOLUS IN MUSICA THE MOST UNDERRATED SLAYER ALBUM?

Friday, August 14th, 2009 at 1:30pm by

D.X. Ferris certainly thinks so, and listening to the record again this week, I’m starting to agree with him (I actually think that the Paul Bostaph years in general are underrated, and that the recent Slayerenaissance began with God Hates Us All. But I digress.). Diabolus has an incredible sense of groove – something Slayer are not usually known for – and, of course, reunited them with Rick Rubin for the last time.

Here’s the band playing the album’s opening track, “Bitter Peace,” in Argentina in ’98, probably right around the time Diabolus was being released.

THE SECOND ROB ZOMBIE STORY IN AS MANY DAYS

Friday, August 14th, 2009 at 1:00pm by

rob_zombie

Even though I loathed Rob Zombie’s remake of Halloween and am 99% sure that Halloween II is going to suck just as bad, I did find this interview that the artist formerly known as Robert Bartleh Cummings* just did with Mr. Beaks at Ain’t It Cool News to be kind of interesting. Especially this part, where he talks about the use of music of his latest cinematic opus:

BTBAM STUDIO UPDATE PART II

Friday, August 14th, 2009 at 12:30pm by

I’m extremely amped about the new Between the Buried and Me album The Great Misdirect. Anyone else?

The Great Misdirect also happens to be the last album BTBAM owes Victory Records under their current contract, meaning the only two bands on that label that we give a shit about (the other being Darkest Hour) are both about to be free agents. Without the pressure of having to placate label boss / mafioso Tony Brummel for an advance on the next record, hopefully BTBAM will go all the way and make 100% of the album they want to make; not that they’ve really appeared to hold back in the past anyways.

Here’s their second studio update.

THE WORST BLACK METAL VIDEO EVER MADE?

Friday, August 14th, 2009 at 12:00pm by

A reader calling him or herself “turkeyhead92″ sent us the below. I’m not sure if it’s the worst metal video ever made, but it is probably the worst black metal video I’ve ever viewed. From the TurboGrafx 16-worthy special effects to the sub-public access cinematography, everything about this is just bad. Bad, bad, bad, bad.

But… hilariously so.

BLOODY PANDA ARE BLOODY BORING

Friday, August 14th, 2009 at 11:30am by

Bloody-Panda

I’ve heard a lot of smart people with opinions I respect sing the praises of Bloody Panda, and I just do not get it. I saw them live once and they bored me to tears – and that was while I was high. Do you know how bad you have to be to bore me when I’m stoned? I could stare at my own foot for at least a solid hour if you get me high enough. But Bloody Panda made me wanna go sit through The Sorrow and the Pity again.

STEEL PANTHER’S COLLECTIVE COCK IS “COMMUNITY PROPERTY”

Friday, August 14th, 2009 at 11:00am by

We generally shy away from hate on ironic bands here at the MS Mansion, but you just can’t hate on Steel Panther. They’re actually a good band, they’re fucking hilarious, and in a way they aren’t really ironic… they kinda were/are the real deal, only they have the self-awareness to be able to take a step back, realize what they’re doing is ridiculous, and make fun of it.

Here’s their latest video for “Community Property” which comes from their new album Feel the Steel, out October 6th. Also worthy of your time, the video for “Death To All But Metal.

GOOD BAND SIGNS TO SHIT RECORD LABEL

Friday, August 14th, 2009 at 10:30am by

the bledA press release that arrived at the MS Mansion yesterday afternoon delivered some upsetting news: Tucson, AZ-based post-rock/metallers The Bled have signed with uber-scene label Rise Records. If you’re not familiar with Rise, all you’re really missing is some pure LOLz: their roster of current and alumni artists includes such fabulous bands as: Attack Attack!, Breathe Carolina, The Devil Wears Prada, Dance Gavin Dance, and a whole slew of other bands who routinely plan breaks into their live sets so they can go backstage and use their hair-flattening irons.

Why such a good band like The Bled (whose most recent album Silent Treatment I wrote about favorably back in ’07) would sign with a label so utterly full of suck is baffling. The Bled — whose sound I’d describe as 1 part At the Drive In, 1 part early Thrice — have issued an explanation via their MySpace blog, so we’ve assigned a team of MetalSucks Mansion Monkeys eager for their morning banana fix to the task of cutting through the crap and translating the band’s statement into something a bit more… honest. The translation, in bold, after the jump:

THIS JUST IN: LITA FORD STILL SUCKS

Friday, August 14th, 2009 at 10:00am by

litaford

Never been a Lita Ford fan. Always thought she sucked. Has nothing to do with hating chicks in metal or whatever – Lita Ford just happens to suck.

So. Ford is now trying to make a comeback and has a new album coming out in October, and is now streaming a song from said new album. The song is called “Crave,” and, hey, guess what? It’s terrible. Shocker.

FUNNY PHOTO CAPTION CONTEST: WIN NEW CDs FROM MAN MUST DIE AND HOWL!

Thursday, August 13th, 2009 at 5:00pm by

metalbaseball_funnyLet’s cut to the chase: the winner to last week’s funny photo caption contest, hands down, is this golden comment submitted by “(required)”:

As bad as he is at stealing band names, Dino proves to be even worse at stealing second base. This can be at least partially blamed on the distracting reminder of his favorite meal, strategically placed on the pitcher’s shirt.

For his/her wit, “(required)” wins a big package of CDs from Earache Records. This week the good folks at Relapse Records are providing us with two prize packages, each containing the latest CDs by MetalSucks approved bands Man Must Die and Howl. Just come up with a funny caption to the below photo, and they’re yours. If you’ve been following the past several weeks of funny photo caption contests (last week excepted), this fine young chap should look familiar…

JUMPING DARKNESS PARADE: DAATH’S EYAL LEVI ON GUITAR CENTER

Thursday, August 13th, 2009 at 4:30pm by

jdp-01

Who here likes going to Guitar Center? The Kmart of music supplies. Going there always pisses me off because I get some dude in a button up silk shirt with embroidered flames shooting up it trying to convince me how the latest Crate amp is gonna blow the roof off the house. I JUST NEED SOME STRINGS AND SOME PICKS. Why does everything there take so goddamn long? I swear, it takes me an average of forty-five minutes to just buy a pack of picks.

VICTORY ARTISTS AREN’T THE ONLY ONES WHO HATE TONY BRUMMEL

Thursday, August 13th, 2009 at 4:00pm by

matadorvsvictory215That Victory Records’ head honcho, Tony Brummel, is a scum bag isn’t news. But usually the man only makes enemies with young bands that don’t realize they’re about to take an eyeful of Brummel’s spunk. Now he’s fighting with other record label-types.

From our friend Bram Teitelman at Metal Insider:

DID YOU SEE THE WAY THE GOAT WAS DRESSED? SHE WAS TOTALLY ASKING FOR IT.

Thursday, August 13th, 2009 at 3:30pm by

Last month I was standing next to Sammy Duet from Goatwhore/Acid Bath for about fifteen minutes and didn’t even recognize him. I just still need to get used to the sight of him with hair, is all. I’m so used to picturing a bald dude.

But I’m already off-topic: Goatwhore. As I said on Tuesday, Goatwhore’s latest, Carving Out the Eyes of God, is one of my favorite albums of the year so far; I’m still blasting it at least once a week. It’s just so fucking evil… I love it. I love it I love it I love it.

The band has now re-teamed with director David Brodsky for their new video, “Apocalyptic Havoc,” which is one of my favorite songs on the album. Check it out:

Carving Out the Eyes of God is out now on Metal Blade. Go buy that shit.
